Hello Ola, can you check out a Knaggs guitar some day if you can. Man those guitars looks beautiful but i have never seen one in person. I would love to hear your opinions on Knaggs. Thanks a lot.
One of the best guitar tones ever captured is Kerry Kings on Decade of Aggression. When Hell Awaits starts his tone sounds like a portal to hell. Why all the hate for King? He is a bad ass guitar player in one of the best thrash metal bands in history. Haters going to hate I guess.
I don't get all that shit of hate for Kerry either . It's just a trendwagon where any idiot who has never listened more than one Slayer song just shits on him cause it's trendy on RUclips. Anyway i cannot be objective cause Kerry is my idol
KK is probably my favourite of all the thrash dudes, I am into the predominantly rhythm players, solos are just the icing for me. How can people hate KK when there are people like Harry Styles and Ed Sheeren in the world.
Second. At the end of his video on on the bean shaped Line 6 Pod, he asked "have we really come so far?" He should totally do a shoot out between old free VST's and modern VST's.
Thanks Ola! I've been asking you to demo on a 2203 JCM800 for awhile now! Even though it's not the 'actual' head that you tested, I'll let it slide - because it's always nice to hear new gear! You (& everyone else for that matter) just look more buff playing Slayer riffs!!
Owned a Marshall JDM1 50 watt head, and I gotta say... Softube hit it outta the park. I've owned many of the real Marshall amps in the JMD1, and they were spot on IMO.
@@mercatorjubio3804 haha its more about the joke here. Slayer has some really killer riffs and an overall amazing feeling from their music. A lot of it was from feel too. Saw them live years back. It was awesome
I've got a 1982 JCM800 at home and I can barely get it over 1 without my family freaking out lol gotta love it though, one of the best amps I've ever heard
Wow thanks Ola , I play thru marshall 3310 , with line6 4x12 cab and metal zone and Ibanez smash box pedals . You got my tone at 10:48 . This plugin seems to have a lot of true metal tones , the fun I could have with this plugin I could tell you liked it
IMO the problem with many of these amp plugins is that there is no "effects loop" option. Ignite Amps did it right by separating the amp and cab plugins so you could add effects anywhere you want - before the amp, before the cab, or after. The Logic amp sims let you add effects in the loop as well and of course complete packages like Amplitube and Bias FX also have effect loop (but you can use only their effects). Bias Amp doesn't have a loop either. Of course, if you play mostly rhythm you may not need an effects loop.
awesome, sounds really similar to KFK, I think that whould be great if the plugin also develop a Jeff Hanneman preset too.. btw, nice video as always OLA
Take a JCM800 emulator, add Kerry's MXR 10 Band EQ preset using the linear phase EQ of your choice and a noise gate. That's the Kerry King Signature Amp. You could get it pretty close with the Ignite Emissary, as you can change the tubes from 6L6 to KT88,which is what the amp uses.
A lot of these plugins start to sound the same after a while. Even the AxeFX seems to have those weird, chewy midrange thing that I’ve never heard anyone dial out.
Tushar Sharma It was good for the time but he never updated it as time went on. I don’t think Kerry’s tone is terrible but is dated. After all if someone put out an album with the same guitar tone as hell awaits today we would wonder what the hell they’re smoking. It’s all mids and top end. I have a Marshall and they already have so much mid range that you really don’t have to crank the mids on it. If anything I would boost the low end for metal.
Sounds pretty cool and I bet it can even better (ie, for what the viewers might want to use it for) dialing it in. I'd probably prefer a JCM800 plugin with TS and MXR 10 band plugins to mess with, though, as I feel it'd be more versatile than just a button.
Now that's my kind of tone. As much as I like Rectifiers or 5150s for certain applications, for me nothing beats an old school cranked Marshall tone. The plugin is way too expensive though.
Keep up the great content Ola. Seen you with the hunted in Detroit back when you started with them. Been a fan since thanks for being you and inspiring others.
Not all of the tone comes from the fingers... But the player contributes a lot with their individual style, like Ola. He's got a distinctive picking style that makes almost any distorted tone chug :D
Very few amps have unique circuits. Most amps usually are based off Marshall or Fender designs. Consider that the first Marshall Amp was a modified Fender Bassman, the first Mesa Boogie was a modified Fender Princeton, the first Soldano was a modified Super Lead 100, the first Bogner was a modified JCM800. The JCM800 itself is the Super Lead 100 with a master volume and one extra gain stage.
Yeah pretty much. I've recently fallen in love with more doom-y guitar tones, like fuzz and RAT style distortion pedals. I've started to prefer that ultra thick style of tone to the dry, clanky, modern metal tone.
Am I only one who totally got a Jerry Cantrell vibe off those first chugs? Seriously that first power chord after he says “let’s start” sounded exactly like “it ain’t like that” to me
This is awesome for old guys like us(Ola included) but I kinda feel bad that the new generation might never use the real heavy Tube amp beasts. I’m never going to sell my Marshall Half Stack, but I love plugins like this for recording.
Plug ins are insane. Soon bands will just plug into a lap top for effects. Mixing has already gone nuts on tablets. Digital age man.. Equipment manufacturers be wary.
there are free amp sims that kick ass.. like the amped roots and ninja, you just need a noise gate plugin and an IR loader... and there are great free ones like the NoiseKatana and NadIR loader. could simulate a mid-range or even a high end gear with just logic and a free DAW..
I think that's great because Softube and UAD plugins have been way too expensive for a long time. I will never pay $350 for a plugin, but if it's good I would pay $100 or $150 if it's packed with features.
Chris G I really want to know. I have and love Nameless. There is a preset called Thrashy McThrashface that nails this type of tone, but I would love to hear it head to head with this
I’ve never set out to sound like Kerry, but is the sound I’ve been looking for in a plug-in. Classic JCM800 with an extra edge. All other plug-ins for metal that I’ve heard are modern metal ultra-gain...not into that.
Nails the Slayer tone. Can you ease off the beast mode and gain and use this plugin to also get a more classic metal tone like Maiden / Priest from mid 80s? (Like on Live After Death or Unleashed in the East)
If I ever find myself in the market for an actual tube amp, I'd get the Marshall JCM 800, just because it's the amp I almost exclusively use on the Helix.
Sounding good, the EMGs brings it much closer to Slayer tone, they brings in some kind of "eveneness" (I dont want to say compression). But still I think, it has too much mids for Kerry King ...
Should do a review of what type of studio monitors people should look towards buying that go good with plugins! I'm not even sure if what I'm asking you to do is even right!? But idk maybe you know a thing or two about them.
Would you consider doing an all swedish cozy video every now and then? Perhaps when talking about swedish gear or musicians. I bet the community wouldn't mind translating it. Swedish video of the month.
Checking out the new Kerry King Plugin from Softube!
Ola Englund love your vids Ola mate 👍🏻 you’re doing the whole youtuber/guitar company owner thing properly.
Ola, could you compare it to positive grid bias, as they have this amp in the set I belive.
8:53 Finally your guitar came alive with those EMG's. More gain, more articulation, more defined, tight, clear notes... Active Rulez
Hehehe.... soooooft tuuuuube

I've always loved that pushed Marshall JCM800 sound. The first time I played a boosted JCM800 through a 1960A was almost a religious experience.
The Ola King preset was definitely the best sounding that you demonstrated!
Alexi Laiho used a JCM 800 KK for the blooddrunk era. I would love to hear this plugin through a guitar with an alexi signature pickup.
Wow I didn’t know that! I knew Alexi used marshalls, I should probably try to get that tone with my own plugin…
This plugin sounds exactly like the 2203KK I played. Sounds sick.

wow sounds amazing- Need to capture that JCM 800 ish sound- I think I need that - right now it's GETTING IT!
The actual amp runs KT88 power valves. Billy Corgan modded his Marshall with the same tubes early on his career.

To me it sounds nothing like Kerry's tone. Terrible high end, no character, not even close. You're better off getting a dsl 1.
