I bought Dragon Ball super volume 8 from TR media (I couldn't find Viz media version). Is this illegal? It already arrived but I haven't opened the seal around the book yet. Should I keep it? Sell it? What do I do? I didn't even know it was a bootleg.
I just know the existence of fake manga just after order a manga. And researching about this . And now having doubts its from indonesia tag as vizbig edition almost same price as the original. Im planning to just return it. Hopefully i still can get refund😢

Mass report the accounts selling Malaysian bootlegs on eBay until eBay does something to make it harder for these companies. eBay hasn't done anything about the Malaysian bootlegs.
I have seen this a lot on Reddit too. Unless you have deep extensive experience in the manga world, the possibility of being fooled is high(even for people who have decent knowledge of manga)
Found a great deal on an Ultimate Muscle volume once. The cover felt like cardboard and the pages were all orange tinted... Even my mom said it looked fake lol

Oddly enough there’s stuff that I want to be bootlegs. Something’s discontinued in the US but localizations were kept up online, so something like that doesn’t have a physical otherwise, I’ll cop a Malaysian version fersher

The two weirdest things about these bootlegs to me is first the pricing on them isn't even great. You can get official new copies from Right Stuf for cheaper than I see them for sale in these fake ebay copies. If they were selling like sets of Chainsaw Man for $30 then I could see people buying them but they are selling sets for like $100 which is ridiculous. Second these series that are most commonly bootlegged (Chainsaw Man, JJK, Demon Slayer) are the easiest series to find legitimately and the series that are always on Right Stuf sales because they are so mass produced and popular. I could see people buying bootlegs of rare hard to find stuff because they had no other way of getting it but makes zero sense when these are mainstream easy to get titles.
What's even weirder is that if you buy these bootlegs from Malaysia, they are priced way cheaper, which makes sense because the point of bootlegs is to attract people with less money.
This video helped me so much. At first, I thought the manga I bought on Amazon was fake… then I saw this video, checked the seller, and realised the manga I bought was real. 😊
Is the Akira 35th Anniversary Box Set one of the titles distributed as a bootleg? I bought mine on eBay for $150 instead of RightStuff which is $175. It seems legit but I wish there was a way to tell the difference.
I got volume 1 of land of the lustrous, and it said it was printed in germany. But then i got volume 3 and it was printed in america and it was an off white spine with wavy pages and you could see the pixels on the cover. Dunno if it was fake or just terrible quality dud

It will be if they scan from a legit copy. Even then, Tokyopop is notorious for not updating their ISBNs and publishing information. So we're kinda lucky they're just pirating Viz the most. Heck, the One Peace Books edition of Smuggler redirects to the Tokyopop listing even if you input the correct ISBN. I haven't been able to find a proper listing of it.

i buy a tr media spy x family during the time that the volumes are always out of print, dont get me wrong i love the Shonen jump version and am still is buying the original one but the quality of paper of tr manga for me is better than the sj, its pretty thick, more whiter but the problem is its a bit smaller and the quality of print is not as good as sj but passable, but the paper that they use for me is much better just the paper, i also love the smell of the paper its nostalgic smell like fresh wood.
Does your version of Spy X Family by TR Media publishing have a slipcover on your manga? Cause if they have slipcover protectors for their manga then I might be tempted to get some manga by them.
Never buy used manga unless it's oop. There are always sales going on where you can get manga cheap asf. Really no excuse at this point unless you're from a 3rd world country or something.

Totally agree. It says in Ebay's policy that counterfeit items are not permitted to be sold, and yet most manga collections being listed are bootleg.
I did reach out to eBay about this and they acknowledged the issue. However nothing seems to have changed 🥲

Just avoid buying the Manga sets from Amazon (like chainsaw man 1-11 or JJK 0-17 sets) since they're probably fakes
