Rub candle wax on it (unscented) and heat it with a hairdryer melting the wax into the fibers, not only will it stiffen it up but it will waterproof your hat. You're welcome!
Thanks for the tips. I might try it. I made a mistake of throwing mine in a washer many years ago which make the brim went soft, and ever since then the brim just flop downward like a skirt.
Your video was helpful! I just did this with my boonie hat after watching your video. It's my favorite and I didn't want to buy another one because this one fits me perfectly :-) Thankfully the brim of my hat had a small opening in that seem that I didn't have to cut and resew.
This video could have been made taking half the time. Besides that - it showed succinctly how to do what needed to be done. I actually stripped some 14 gage romex and used that. once I got it all the way around I overlapped it 2 inches to avoid any unsupported areas and inched the last part of the wire into the brim about an inch. Thanks work out really well for a hat I washed a few times that became too floppy. Gave new life to a 20 yr old hat!
By far the best of my boonies caps is the one I took the outer seam off and sewed a coat hanger all the way around and then reattached the seam. You can cut your brim down narrowing it to about 3-5 fingers, attach the coat hanger and you have stiffened and shortened the brim! Two mods at one time! Use a narrow coat hanger as some are thick.
Thanks for the tips. So... how do you fix a droopy brim? I made a mistake of throwing mine in a washer many years ago which make the brim went soft, and ever since then the brim just flop downward like a skirt.
Lol, mine says not to starch it on the tag, but it stays stiff enough for me. It's the new hat I got from some ppl that they used in their pool that's sad. Similar, but it doesn't have the cartridge thing on the top. (Which I took off mine)
Don’t know what hat you have but during Desert Storm (even if not deployed)we could not starch our uniforms/hats. The starch would ruin the infrared protective coating and weakens the fabric
Watched this. Then thinking about it, gave me the idea to come up with a better, even easier solution. Using long plastic zip ties. You can start at the seam of the rim, and without cutting, feed one through (I used ones 2 feet long because it's what I had), and once that's fed through to the end, trim off the little locking do-hicky with scissors. Then without cutting, just splitting a few threads on the rim near that one, feed the next one going the other way. I used three in this process trimming off about three inches of the last one. Just took a very few minutes and worked like a charm.
Should change your name to "The Windchime Warrior "
Dogpack Sissydick Is gonna be my new handle
That sounds mystical 😂
dude, save some ladies for the rest of us. lol
"i like 'em stiff, some people might like 'em loose and floppy"

😂 I’m imagining a bunch of weekend warriors in the AZ desert in the middle of summer w candle wax dripping down their faces 😂
@@jesushair2784 Lucky for me I live in the tropic, so no worry of melting wax. 🤣

The wax also makes the hat less breathable so you'll be sweating like a pig
Those jangly Chimmers getting on my nerves
Did anyone notice his reference to “automatic handgun cartridge”? 😂👌🏻
i came to the comments just for this
loser. Why do morons try to talk about things they know nothing about.
That is all we wore in Desert Storm.
didn't the rest of your body get an awful sunburn?
String trimmer line works well also.
Great idea, never thought of it.
@@robsweeney6341 Ya. Me either. I got the idea from someone else. 😄
I love those hats, they're comfortable every season, I don't care of what the others say
I wonder if plastic string trimmer line would work and be rust free and lightweight
Captain Price Boonie here I come
"The bullet of a automatic handgun cartridge." 🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯
Spray starch then spray on waterproof treatment after the starch has been left to sit for a while might also do a decent job.
nope. only lasts until it rains the first time, even with waterproofing.
@@bedlamite42 How about those water proof spray for boots? Same thing?

Hehe! He likes 'em stiff.
Get it? Stiff. Cuz it sounds like he's sa....you know what, forget it.
Aluminum Wire, I presume?
The description on this video is outrageous. LMFAO! I'm dead! It's literally the reason I clicked on the video. Hahahaha
The description honestly sounds like it has some special forces humor, lmao.

I was shown this years ago, to avoid them getting bent in the laundry I wash mine in the dishwasher.
3:20 "Automatic handgun cartridge"
Sounds like the left trying to explain ar15s
LMAO! Good one!
of course youre subscribed to officialfranklin, because you seem so childish

Handguns are semi/fully automatic when optioned properly and they do have full/empty cartridges in them. Technically, he’s right.
Where?
What is an "automatic handgun cartridge?" Can you even name one?
I used some plastic coated wire, thin enough gauge that you can slip it through the stitching without cutting anything
how thick approx. is that wire?
Thanks for the tips.

@@G-Dubya-Busch Thanks.
The real question though is, how do you tie it Captain Price style?
John Dawson British Army Special Forces Bush hat is what Price wears
@@urbanjungle9600 Thanks. I think the name of the hat is boonie hat.
@meatiest but how does he make it fold around his head?
@@johndawson6057 With this mod you can do it buddy
After you do this can it be used as a frisbee???
How about starching the hat ?
Great video and really helpful but the camera movement makes me motion sick!
Hahaha! How to stiffen a boonie hat....... Lol.... I would probably try flirting with it but I can't quite guarantee the same results I had!!!!!!!!!
You can also flirt with a NOVRITSCH because you are sucha wannabe
Try to shape it into captain price’s hat
Great vid. "the bells, the bells!!!!!"
Treat it like a baseball cap. When it wears out, buy a new one.
What if the hat have a sentimental value on it. New hat can't replace that.
Yo why did you stop making videos they are awesome
Soft electric fence wire, U don't need 2 cut de hat just thread wire thru seam,, did it 2 all my boonies, and it's easy 2 reshape if U muss it up..
The floppy edges break up straight lines for a better camouflaged head . But fashion is cool gotta look cool for your final photo lol
For those sitting in moms basement playing call of duty.
Thanks for the awesome idea!
Do I really want a conductive metal ring around my head in a strom though? :D
Oh no. Would that really happen?
unrealistic scenario
Thanks for the vid! I will try this with my roadeavour.

That kind of wire will interfere with the use of a compass.
For boys playing with air soft, they won't be doing any land nav. They're just that. BOYS.

Very helpful.
Always wash your boonie in the dishwasher.
Buy a better quality Boonie. When you wash your hat you can spray it with stars and iron it.
Young price
Wind chimes. Put it in the dishwasher to clean.
Great idea, cheers 👍🏾
Wash it in the dishwasher on the top rack
Copper wire would probably be better
Thank you!
Thanks a lot dude it’s smart and saves money ...
Would anyone normal wear metal ring above head during storm? 😀
Someone in the comment section suggested the string trimmer line as an alternative.
Are you going to make a video on how to tie your shoes next?
I have 2hats love them
Cool!
Dude just soak hat in borax and baking powder then wash off hard as hell
Fuckin A! Thank you!
throw it in the trash can and buy a new one
VG - thx & hit liked!
Kool thx!!
Bro you just need to get some Sta- Flo spray let it dry and all set
Metal in the cover will f*ck up your compass if you are trying to get a bearing…
Why would anyone want to “stiffen” their Boonie hat? If it bothers you that the head gear flops around then, may be you shouldn’t be wearing one.
What a waste of time.
