THIS GAME IS , badminton and tennis combined , with ping pong bats and a Wiffle ball, and was invented by a bunch of kids just making up a game with all the leftover crap in the garage .
For all those on the fence, just play with a friend for an hour to give it a try. It is much more fun than it looks, and has a much higher fun/frustration ratio than tennis
Why are people so pretentious, like I've played tennis for seven years and I still can't consistently hit the ball in when serving and my friend who has played for over a decade also may sometimes screw up on his serves as well. Tennis takes a huge amount of skill and that's why we respect good players cause I know just how hard tennis is to be good at. Pickleball is a fun new game that is more open to the public and meant for fun rather then skill, let people have fun and stop being pretentious about it.
Did leave out the most important information for the transferee from other racket/paddle sports..."This ball doesn't bounce worth a darn!!!" would be about the second thing I would mention.😅
Calling the area around the net the "kitchen" makes it sound like pickleball was started by a couple of kids whose mother kept yelling at them to stay out of the kitchen, and they took their childhood antics of playing ball in the house and put it on a court.
In doubles, are there restrictions on a receiving team's player position beyond not changing sides during a serve sequence? Do they have to be on a particular side based on score, such as at the beginning of the game the starting server for receiving team would have to return from the even side?
Volley = hitting ball before it bounces. She's saying you CAN stand in the kitchen, however you can only touch the ball after a bounce, that's why it's not recommended.
Great video showing some of the basic rules to help a newbie thinking about playing know what the game is about. However, the part where ALW poaches in front of MomW causing an I formation, then MomW moving behind and to the other court can cause confusion for someone seeing it for the first time. It's too advanced for beginners. I would suggest an edit to take that out!
Especially in close-up...hard to tell where they were in the court; but not the worst thing in the world. This is one of the better "intro to Pball" videos I've seen...no pickles, no dog stories, etc ;)
FIRST serve and return has to bounce( LATER NO) After that no bounce needed Can only score if you are the server -Win means switch side and the winner serves again kinda think like challenging the different person caz the first person u gave couldnt win - if u lose the serve u give it to ur partner -if your partner also loses i goes to other team on right
I just read in, "Pickleball Rules and Fundamentals.." by Dennis Hall, that "The players serve the ball underhand and it must be served without first bouncing it on the court." Here in the video, you state that it can be served underhand OR as a drop serve and show the server bouncing it first on the court. Seems like a minor clarification, but I'm new so I don't know which is correct, or how important this might be to the gameplay.
thanks, very clear. 2 serve fails allowed per side in doubles is unique. also the return must bounce. i must say though that with 2 serve chances, and can only score on your serve, scoring can stagnate and take forever to get to 11. so i think it could get boring for an audience. why not do it like ping pong where someone scores every rally, and play to 21 instead of 11.
@@fredsmith6324 Side out scoring is like the old days of volleyball...only the serving team can score. In Pball, the serving team will lose the serve if they lose the rallies started by both partners(OR the one partner at the beginning of the game). That's called 'side out' and the opponents now get to serve and have the opportunity to score. "Rally scoring" generally refers to the ability to score on any exchange(rally) by winning that exchange...independent of the serve. IF Pickleball had 'rally scoring' when I started, I would still be playing; but I can see the interest it brings in terms of strategy.
@@racketrick ah i see, i.e. only server can score vs scoring on every rally. tennis and ping pong are score on every rally. i am just afraid that it can take forever to get a game over with when only server can score. some games will go quickly, some will take forever. game times will vary by a lot.
@@fredsmith6324 It's true that games can vary quite a bit in duration; but so can tennis with deuce/ad, deuce/ad... Adds a bit to the intrigue in Pickleball, IMO. Fortunately, it's not all about getting the games finished quickly! Also, I've had "win by two" games to 11 finally end at 21-19 ! THAT was a LONG game!!! (I've also served all 11 points to win a Golden Pickle...other team never got a chance to serve!!!). That took about eight minutes!!!
I'm not an official (I'm just a player), but I believe that even if the ball touches the net as it goes across in a serve, as long as in lands in the opposite court, it's GOOD (and is often hard to return, which actually makes it a great serve!). I know in tennis a serve that touches the net is a let/do-over, so that's another difference between tennis and PB.
OK, this game doesn’t need skill and is like playing ping pong on a smaller tennis court with a bigger ball using racquet that cost double the price of tennis rackets. Got it 😎. Looks fun though. I am going to give up my golf (which cost a bomb ) and play this. The club apparently have lots of open bars and lazy chicks…..as compared to sweaty chicks in tennis courts. ❤
correct, so the non athletic and uncoordinated dont feel left out...... athletes play Paddleball opportunity for some people im sure....think of all the pickleball charity scams that can be manifested now🤷♂
Most people play pickleball for two reasons. More social interaction and they are looking for a sport requiring less impact on joints from lots of court coverage. So doubles fits that bill better.
Yes it's essentially poor man's tennis and that's okay. You can play on any hard surface, no restringing rackets, paddles are cheaper, and it's easier on the shoulders and wrists. It makes for a great pick up game and most people can play enjoyably in a few minutes unlike tennis.
I think it would be better if you talk about singles Pickleball separate from doubles pickle ball otherwise it can get confusing very quickly. I need to go back and review the video if I just wanna know about singles or find a better video Not an explanation of singles then doubles then singles then doubles and singles.
After seeing this controversy , I will never attempt to start something new with so many haters. Not worth the BS. Looking for something fun but for five years all I hear is bickering non stop from Tennis people . Not worth the constant hassle and bickering.

A game for people who are unable to cover a tennis court and lack the skill and control to hit with a proper racquet!

Somebody.a tennis snob????
I got muscular dystrophy so I walk kinda funny etc, so tennis is P difficult, this looks a lil easier
Anybody else want to see the players decide who goes first with rock paper scissors on Wimbledon?
🤣🤣🤣
Did leave out the most important information for the transferee from other racket/paddle sports..."This ball doesn't bounce worth a darn!!!" would be about the second thing I would mention.😅
Yes! Lol!
Why didn't the inventors just use tennis scoring instead of confusing people?
the irony here lol
Tennis scoring is dumb as hell
You want a four 2 match, be my guest.
@@drew4317yeah, bad example haha. Tennis not the most intuitive scoring system either.
Now I want to play pickleball because of you thank
you
❤
Great video! The only confusing thing was understanding when a side out occurred.
After googling it, it occurs when the second server loses a point
Thnx it helped
Calling the area around the net the "kitchen" makes it sound like pickleball was started by a couple of kids whose mother kept yelling at them to stay out of the kitchen, and they took their childhood antics of playing ball in the house and put it on a court.

If there are no Volleys in the Kitchen, why would she say you can choose to play/stand in the Kitchen? Just curious
This is what I was wondering
Volley = hitting ball before it bounces.

@@Iautocorrect thankyou for the explanation - makes total sense 🤘

Serve rules and points system are like old badminton rules.. Couldve just said that.. Is this tennis, badminton and table tennis combined.. Seems fun
I don't like pickles, but I think I would like pickleball!
Can you throw the paddle into the kitchen and volley with the paddle mid-air?
Anime rules 😂
“The serve goes to the next person.” Which person,
which team?
I'm confused by this too. Poor wording.
I’m confused here too!
If your team wins the point, you give the ball to your team mate to serve.
Good for building hand-eye coordination
I'm looking forward to playing pickleball I used to play racquetball but I'm not interested in it no more.
FIRST serve and return has to bounce( LATER NO)

I am going to try it for the first time .
Do the workers there usually give you the equipment and stuff?
Or you should get your own ?
Great video! Thanks for making it. Forwarding to some friends who are playing their first game toniight.

The rules changed in 2022. They allow bounce serves now as it's easier for beginners.
Looks like tennis for people who aren’t particularly athletic. Kind of like croquet at a lawn party.
I love pickleball
My God is this not just tennis with a shorter paddle/racket. Lord have mercy
You just read out loud what I thought. I....will just go play tennis....
Glorified ping pong if the table was bigger and you were standing on it
And a shorter racket and different rules a smaller field etc.etc
To me, it looks like ping pong, with the players standing on the table😂
Well it's a cross between Ping Pong and Tennis!!😊
yup i guess you could say that but it remands me of tennis its self but pickleball and tennis are 2 different sports.

Side-out scoring adds significantly to the strategy and interest of the game, IMO. I don't care for "rally" scoring at all.
