I love the sounds of these trains. I was in San Francisco over the summer and I regret not at least checking out BART. Every system I've ridden has a unique sound, NYC's classic metal on metal grinding, the DC metro's futuristic sounding motors. Even the Lynx light rail in my hometown (Charlotte) has a unique sound to it.
Hey Nick. not much to regret. If you remember the East Bay just think of a situation where outside of course of Concord the area east of the Oakland Hills would be unreasonably unpopulated for a city transit system, only accommodation for a business district be downtown San Francisco (with Oakland not well served as a business center), and above all else avoid San Jose. Never going to be a city worth talking about no?
martin theiss it goes through unpopulated area to get to the deep east Bay Areas which serve transportation into the city for those who want to avoids traffic through the mountains into Oakland and SF
Yeah, I particularly enjoyed making this video and watch it occasionally for that aesthetic appeal. Looking forward to my next Bay Area trip, hopefully in January.
Bart's redemption from its current problems depends upon each patron. A patron is a person who holds a valid ticket. Vaulting the fare gate like a Springbok is a clear indicator of the non-patron.
+John-Andrew Zacharakis It will be a gradual replacement. The first set will go into service sometime in 2016 and I believe it's still going to be at least another 2-3 years after that before they're all phased out. You don't have to be too sad just yet :)
still not yet. the new trains are not doing as well as expected during the testings. adjustments are needed. it's still gonna be quite a while until any new trains will be put in service.
i dont live here but i heard about these trains. i wonder how long these exact trains,as in the actual physical train vehicles, been around for. I remember in 1999(and again in 2014) when i went to Universal Studios Florida i went on the Earthquake ride and some of the props were Bart trains. I assume Earthquake the ride was built in the early 90s with the Bart train props included.these were life sized Bart trains by the way. so doing the math these same exact train vehicles been around for almost 30 years if not more!
girlstorm09 The trains shown in this video were built in the 1970s. They're in the process of being replaced by new Electrostar-style trains built by Bombardier.
Quite Historical - these older Rohr cars will be replaced by the new Bombardier ones over the next few years. Plus the announcements are pretty catchy too despite being monotonous.
the truck motors are staged induction motors that have on-the-fly delta-wye switching for high torque at low speed, and high efficiency at high speed. The sound you hear under acceleration and deceleration of the pitch switching quickly once dropping below 10mph is the motor controllers flipping the winding layout on the fly.
I'm afraid not... the only Muni Metro footage I have is at the Caltrain Depot station from March 2014. You are right though, the Muni Metro runs directly above the BART system from Civic Center to Embarcadero.
Hey Welwin good job being in downtown San Francisco where I was born. DId you get to see the east bay or were you just on the peninsula and SFO international? Do you think San Francisco is just as congested and nasty as Vancouver?
It's possible, but you'd have to reprogram the inverter with the new drive waveforms, it may also affect your range and torque as the drive waveforms used are optimal for those motors on the trains, and the chances are that Tesla has programmed their inverters specifically for the motors in your type of car to get the most traction and best efficiency.
There are more problems evident on the 2015 map of the system than just gauge issues. The area on the northeastern line (Berkley) just suffered a famous planning lawsuit which among other things tried to avoid development since a business was using an area to grow plants. Planners wanted the plot to remain viable and not be subject to shadows. At least now there is a state law there that should over the next couple decades bring sanity back to the housing price issues. Sickening.
I don't want to be rude to Nigerians but even by third world standards BART now gives me the creeps. Current service plan does not do its original job to ferry rank and file workers to work and those who have other business find it easy to transit to events or venues. The managers even say its not a 24/7 line because they need time to do service work daily on the tracks at night.
Everyone serves Oakland Daisy. my message to Nick was only frustration that the planners in the late 1960s and early 1970s had no reason to expect there being any thought of a Pleasanton need for service. And even SFO, our favorite Canadian got treated to an extension which was completed only around 2000 or so since on the original plan there was no real need to go south of the county line into San Mateo. Even Marin County decided to leave the charter district since they felt it would be intrusive into their transportation plan.
The stations and trains and voice make it feel so cyberpunk 80s
Honestly the whole thing is how they imagined the future would look like in the 1960s. Clean, aluminium, speedy and computerized
I wonder how the recorded voice to let them know a train is arriving idk how they switch between genders tbh lol.
I have been on these trains many of times there is always chaotic people.
@@gerghhhttg2913 They don't, AFAIK. The female voice is for Platform 1. Male voice for Platform 2.
Agreed

BART trains have metal-on-metal grinding especially when they go on curves.
Is it just me, or are the braking sounds and engine sounds the best?
I'm sad that I don't live in SF anymore. I didn't get a chance to properly say goodbye to my favorite train.
At least they are trying to fix the old broken trains.
Honestly I like the horn (Boop Boop), but yeah that departure/arrival sound is nicely detailing.
But the best thing about the BART is its speed!
+Brett Walters I was 9 when I left SF 5 years ago. I was to attached to this train. This video makes me nostalgic.
Aprilfooldude The engine sound kind of sounds like the MTA R142 and the Type 8 tram from the MBTA.
moved away from the bay 4 years ago i loved the whole aesthetic of the bart all the sounds and voices
Yeah, I particularly enjoyed making this video and watch it occasionally for that aesthetic appeal. Looking forward to my next Bay Area trip, hopefully in January.
Oh Ill miss these trains. The new ones just look so odd.
Straight up nostalgia, back when the Giants sucked I used to be at the ballpark every day, this is how I got there 😂
Who else thinks they sound so satisfying
Dc metro has a similar whine. I love the synthesized voice they use in bart
so does Marta in Atlanta
Same here, love the voices
I’m just here for the memories…and maybe to see if you caught me on camera leaving work, lol.
I highly doubt it, as this was recordes between 10 and 11am - unless you went home early or had just finished work at that time.

beautiful stations and trains
Possibly my favorite urban transportation as well as muni buses and metro
I like how they line the train doors to the grey coloured patches on the platform
yeah...I love that
Jaden A
Yeah i love that
*_•reshirm•_* no shit sherlok.
*_•reshirm•_* does that mean that these patches, that appeared as an advantage first, are actually a disadvantage? that blows my mind.
I will miss the others but I cant wait to see that new one
Lots of action of BART trains.
i just got off this train like right now
One day I'll make it to SF for a ride on the BART :)
big dreamer I see
Love the bart station
Enjoy it while it still lasts, this will be the last year these train models see the light of day before the new ones replace them next year.

Oh, goody! :)
Hopefully they sound as good as these ones :(
+Juan Rodriguez They sound horrible.
still not yet. the new trains are not doing as well as expected during the testings. adjustments are needed. it's still gonna be quite a while until any new trains will be put in service.
The horn on the 2nd train sounded so much like TTC's T1 and TR.

Me like 😮
Why does this video sound so fascinating

@@Welwyn22 I've already ridden some of the new cars. They are ok but I'll miss the older ones more. I've ridden those since 1994.

@@Hyperious_in_the_air I'm going to miss that sound when the last car is scrapped
I went from West Dublin to Embarcadero for a exploratorium museum.
I’m pretty sure that Marta trains are related to this train as cousin as I think that there made from the same company
Sounds like an MTA NYC R142a in new york
Close, but no.
microsoft bob and kit the kid still announcing arrivals and departures in 2018.
Did you get any Muni Metro footage? The train was right above your head, I heard it.
I'm afraid not... the only Muni Metro footage I have is at the Caltrain Depot station from March 2014. You are right though, the Muni Metro runs directly above the BART system from Civic Center to Embarcadero.
Just uploaded a MUNI video: The New, The Old, And The Vintage
I’m just here from a Deadspace sound audio file sample.

Those robo-announcers make it sound like an '80s dystopian sci-fi movie.
Do other rail systems in the U.S also operate 10-car trains?
Evanston Balce MTA NYC subway
I just cried a little... can I make my tesla make that pedestrian sound for when my car accelerates and decelerates?.

@@therealchayd Wow! Great answer! I was just hoping for more of an audio recording of Bart at low speeds.
I have no idea why did they chose this gauge and not the standard one

Not the case for many riders

Dead space lmao
