Payson High students celebrate prom with a 'Footloose' theme

- Saturday morning was busy for many Payson High School students. Hundreds of teens helped build kits for actor Kevin Bacon's charity SixDegrees.

My class 1977 had the schools first prom. No dancing at the school. Lots of Baptist influence. So we had permission to hold it in the next county at the Atascosa Show Barn. Very similar to Footloose but a decade earlier. First class to also create Student Council. 😊

What a great experience for these kids. Maybe an even bigger thrill for their parents, since this movie was more their era. Footloose was released the year I was a junior in high school. Would love to have been there to see this!

What a great man! Kevin Bacon was the fellow I wanted to be like in the late 80’s learning to dance I was born 1984 now as a resident of The Great State of Utah turning 40 this year. I plan to go visit Payson High School before it gets moved. So amazing to see all these kids about to have a prom they will never forget.

I was at a rural drive-in in Northern Wisconsin dancing as best I could to FootLoose on the night of my college graduation at Northland College, in Ashland WI 1984!!!

Amazing salute to a fun film and song! I hope that the school district and architecture give a knob to some of the original features of the school and film Footloose. Plus it’s nice to learn Kevin Bacon is a nice, great full and fun man.

Kevin Bacon's surprise hit movie "Footloose" was a great success. No one thought back in 1984, that this little gem would be a big box office hit, and it did make a star out of then unknown Kevin Bacon and launched his career. I went to the movie theatre thinking it is gonna be yet another dull movie with its unknown stars, but luck had striked with the newcomer Kevin Bacon who showed terrific dance moves, similar to one year earlier when Jennifer Beals showed her dancing skills in "Flashance" which also was a great success. Dance and musical movies shined back in the '80s like: Fame, Flashdance, Footloose, and definitely Victor Victoria which I believe was a great success story of the '80s.

Hi there! Being a graduate of Springville High where the iconic "Library Burning of Books" scene was filmed gives me so many memories of the time in 1983 (When "Footloose" was filmed). To remember the Hi Spot scene that i watched being filmed across the street & to think I was only 18 then (I'm now 58!!) Where did all the time go? I lived there until the late '90s then moved to California. My dad lived there until his "final days" in 2014, but I dream everyday of going back to "show off" the places where "Footloose" was filmed & knowing that Payson High will no longer be there, at least in its "Footloose" form, just breaks my heart (Rumor has it that "Springville High" has suffered the same demise? To be torn down & rebuilt, is this true?) We have a high school reunion in June, but I WILL NOT be there....again... (Ive missed ALL of my reunions), but instead am GETTING MARRIED!! Which is a good trade off. Hopefully I/We can make it on our 50th? Where I can show my WIFE & 3 children from previous marriages where I grew up AND where footloose was filmed IN PERSON! Thank you for all the memories AND to KEVEN BACON for making them!!

The one regret I have is my boyfriend didn’t want to go with me so I never went to prom and we broke up shortly after that so that is a one regret. I have not going to my prom.

The diversity at this school is amazing, I never seen so many different varieties of white people in my life.

Oh come on, it’s Utah, what do you expect? Maybe the area just doesn’t have a ton of residents of different races/ethnicities that have high school kids? In areas like Salt Lake or West Valley City there is usually more diversity.

Dude…they were there to see their kids who were probably the seniors who did the walk with their dates! Most likely they left once the actual dancing started. My boyfriend at the time (years ago..like back in 2006) took me to his school prom and they did something similar and my parents were there, took a video of the special moment and then went back home after the little parade.
