One pet-peeve I have with you guys when you talk about the rebuild and the summer transfer window, is that you constantly refer to buying "backup" players. "Backup for X" , "Backup for Y". That is not the mentality we should have! Every transfer target needs to be someone who can walk right in and start or at least challenge for a starting position. We get too complacent in this fan base, too attached to players. We form these emotional bonds and we think our starboys are undroppable. They are ALL droppable. If we find a someone better than VdV, Romero Son or whoever, then that's just the way it is and the incumbent gets unseated. That's how title-winning teams are built.

I thibk what you are saying is that this is now a squad game and the goal is to have two viable choices per position so it creates competition and allows for fresh legs in the 2nd half.

Issue with the fullbacks is we need backups in their roles not positions. Sure, VDV and Calafiori probably can play LB, so can Davies, but they can’t play the inverted role that Udogie plays. Unless Ange were to adapt the tactics in the event of an injury to Udogie or Porro, we need to look for players who fit those roles rather than someone who can play the position.
That's why I think this system is too brittle, it's too unconventioal. Look at how dependent we are one insanely fast CB. This is ridiculous. If Arsenal lose Salida, they don't fall apart. I know they have better players in other positions, but this system is SO EXTREME it makes finding players nearly impossible.
It is nuts how dependant the system is on a few players who can't really be replaced like VdV and the full backs
Rather have identity even if it fails when we have injuries with CURRENT players. If we identify that we need speed from the back that's what we should look for rather than being caught up on how defensively sound they are when they're just going to be backups. Emerson royal should stay as a bench piece.

"if youre 21 and stil playing in the u21, youre probably going to get moved on" our team sucks at giving chances to our youth period. You can't blame the players on that. We have a history of neglecting our players in terms of 1st team chances. We need to stop acting like a big club and faith in youth. We can't look into "buying backups" every summer that's ridiculous. City, Arsenal, Chelsea, United, all play academy players. This club is has no faith in youth and can't afford to pay for players hahah.
Spurs have the best u21 squad in the country now so should look to bring some in.
@@jimmynich4791 definitely agree with this! How can they be performing so well but not get a chance at the first team. Academy products are doing so well in all the top teams - Saka/Foden/Bradley. Ours are raved about but never given the baptism of fire in the 1st

Despite interest from abroad, Riccardo Calafiori prefers to stay in Italy. Guys If we get Calafiori we will have one of the best defence in premier league in my opinion. I would chase Chiesa from Juve.
Honest guys, we hear this every year. We will sign a couple of decent players, one for the future, and sell a handful if anyone actually wants them. Our net spend will be minimal

Absolute 100% guarantee we start next season with a squad that’s not fully there and we will be short in a few areas. Been the same for 25 years so why would ENIC change now?

The reality is that while Spurs are in a position to spend a fair bit, they are not in a position to buy top notch players to bring the club to the same level as the top 3 in terms of quality of players in one window. Even if the first 11 may be comparable, back up players will still be a tad behind. Yes, it'll still be work in progress across the board, tactically and player quality. I'm inclined to believe that if Spurs fail to secure a solid top 3 next season, then a significant degree of uncertainty within the boardroom and on the field will arise. What decisions and direction the club will take then will be anyone's guess.
Calafiori, Gibbs-White & Watson and a good back up goal keeper plus use our youth players as back up
All this stuff about other teams needing to sell by 30 June sounds very dodgy to me, I'm not having it just yet. I don't think that will actually be the case.

No one is mentioning the Euros and Copa America will make transfers more difficult. In and out. Players that we want out will want to wait until after the tournament to improve their stock. Selling clubs will also want to wait to hopefully up the price. This will also mean Ange will have less preseason with new players and ones at the tournaments. I don't see how we get off to a good start next season, unfortunately.

@kernowchris except the teams already above us will not need to make as many moves. Arsenal probably only need to spend 80-100m on a striker. City might add 1 or 2 quality players. Liverpool might replace Salah with another top class forward.
we signed 7 (9 if you count porro and kulu) last summer and 1.5 this winter (werner loan) while seeing 10+ leave on a permanent or loan basis just last summer so it is doable. we have 32 players under contract next year so we have to send at least 7 out one way or the other before any come in for UEFA registration. if we can spend another ~200m (avg over last 2 years) we can give range a team he is confident in
All we need right now is, for the players to buck up and polish their game by showing commitment to the club, aggressively. Little wonder why we are chided as Spursy. COY..f**king..Spurs.

Agreed and we will be at the same rebuild again. Rebuild, projects are all terms when we don’t buy ready to win players. A result either when your club has no money, or you are just cheap in personality.
With a transfer budget of 100 to 150 million, if we spend 50 mill on three players, and let 4 to 7 go, we will be lacking depth all over the squad. If the club is serious about a rebuild, it needs to let some big players leave if the right offer comes in. In my mind only two players in the current squad are indispensable.

Rumours about Calafiori, Juventus will go for him and he wants to stay in Italy (similar story when we wanted to go for Bastoni). Branthwaite not gonna come to us as a "backup CB", he wants first team role for sure. Nico Williams has a release clause of 50 mil EUR, I would go for him as he can play both flanks, amazing dribbler, good option for Son, Kulusewski, Johnson. We need a proper number 9 first or make Son a proper CF (Schick, Guirassy, Solanke). Bissouma needs to play more consistent or needs to go. Need second option on both RB and LB positions. Lot to do. Hopefully like last window, Spurs will make early deals, especially before the EURO 2024.

Bissouma and Richarlison should 100% stay even just as bench players. No way the club finds players that can come close to what those two can do on their day with what theyre willing to spend.

I don't think anyone will pay anything for Sessegnon, bags of talent but they know he'll always be injured, I think his career is pretty much done.
We don't need a backup Leftback/rightback. We have Skippy. Sell Davies, Sess, Reggie for 5m each... ain't gonna get much more. Skipp is better in that inverted position than all of them.

Spurs are the fourth highest transfer spenders in the EPL over the past five seasons. Only Chelsea, Man Utd and Arsenal have spent more. Of those three only Arsenal have benefited from spending so much. Spending money is not the clubs problem anymore, it’s identifying the right talent. Spurs suck at that. If Spurs really want to improve under Ange and push for the title then they need to do what Brighton and Dortmund have done and become the best scouting team in Europe.

I think so but Vuskovic will apparently come in January as I think he can't come until he's 18 and January window is the soonest he can come. Someone might know more but I think I remember reading that. Good thing is that both will count as home-grown as long they stay for 3 consecutive seasons at Spurs or go out on loan to an English club (again, think that's right)
