The anxiety waiting for Chris’s laptop to fall off the table is palpable 😀
And will the Apple fall far from the tree?
What a dream day. After a hard day at work beating deadlines, I crack open a bottle of wine, switch to RUclips and see a new edition of Deep Dive awaiting me from Josh and Chris. 'Verfijnd!' as Slot might say. Especially exciting edition as we look to the future, rather than dwelling on our disappointing end to this season.
Exactly!
We don't have a set piece coach? No fucking shit. 😂🤣
I feel your comment it's been pointless having corners or throw ins
They need the steal the one from Arsenal
@@sammyboyjnr5520he'll have us obstructing the keeper in no time!
First he should sell Salah and Nunez, need some real strikers

This is best Footy Manager tutorial I’ve ever seen.
Bloody love this show
Can’t wait to dive into this
josh williams has more ball knowledge than neil jones
It was great seeing Klopp use Trent at right back for the first few years, but it's got old now, very quickly. He's clearly got an exceptional ability to spray balls around the pitch and to thread cute passes forwards to our attackers. Continuing to deploy him at right back, with the periodic and inevitable embarrassments that he suffers against speed merchants, is no longer justifiable. Too much is made of defensive issues with Trent when discussing his potential effectiveness in a midfield role. Pirlo was a converted 10 from his days at Inter, as a result of Ancelotti having the vision (himself a former midfielder) to play him at the base of a midfield diamond. Pirlo was no Claude Makelele, but with Gattuso's aggression and Seedorf's technical abilities complementing him, Milan were very strong with Pirlo spraying passes around from deep. Who's to say that Trent couldn't do the same, or a modified version of that role in midfield, whilst Connor Bradley is given the right back berth as a starter, instead of an understudy to TAA.
Pirlo and Modric are press resistant...I think Trent is not press resistant...neither is he a dribbler...he looks more and more like a luxury player with a wand of a right foot. If he is not willing / able to track back or press opposition high up the pitch it´s hard to see him fitting in much longer.
This. We need a world class no.6 that will complement Trent at the base of midfield. We saw what could happen with Fabinho despite him not being at his peak. We cannot waste Macca there and Endo is not world class lets be honest. We already have one of the best talents in Stefan Bajectic as a backup so we're covered for the position and we need to go all in like we did for VVD. Just have to look at Arsenal who went all in for Rice and see how he has been the difference maker for them compared to last season.
@@johnxxx5085yeah plus I find him quite yellow at times he doesn't want to know about the physical side of the game or tackle and against Everton his so called marking for their second goal was pathetic. He'll rarely track back and challenge his man either .
I remember when Gerrard 1st came through and he was utilised a lot at rightback, until Rafa saw his qualities there and knew they'd be more productive in a midfield role (yes, I know he was always a centre mid for the unders!) But it was still a case of putting faith in him in that role at a young age and sacrificing an older head or two. The same thing seems apparent in Trent's case, but it's not a case of swerving Paul Ince for a younger, hungrier player who plays the same role, it's a case of, "What tactics do we now employ to get the best out of his abilities"? And two, who does he replace in midfield. Do we play him in a Pirlo-esque role in the 6 and have a destroyer in the 8, or do we play him in the 8, bring in a 6 (or blood Bacjetic at the same time) and he pushes out one of Mac Allister or Szoboszlai?
Honestly if Salah leaves I’d give Szobo time on the right. We need a DM but we also need to accommodate our best players: A new DM, alongside Trent, and Macca playing further forward in a 8/10 role.
Even if Salah stays we need a new RW. Haven't signed one in 7 bloody years (a 16 year old Harvey doesn't count). Too light on that side while we're stacked on the left
I thought it was confirmed he’s staying?
@@anthonybarnes706 the club has been leaking ‘not looking to sell’ noises, probably keeping his price high.
@@MikeyJMJ agreed we would need another RW if Salah left, but it’s worth considering Szobo as an option there too. We have so many midfielders, and we need another DM too. My point is that players need minutes. Plus at the end of the day most players should be able to play more positions than one
Szobo is right footed. And I don’t see him staying wide or going to the byline. He would need to cut inside.
Literally talking in tbe background all the way through i want to watch this to get away from background noise
I think they share a studio but it is annoying
Great vid. Josh is gold with these
Absolutely great chat. Thanks lads for giving us this show. I was so happy that Chris mentioned Stefan as I feel he is the future of our midfield. Unfortunate that he was out for so long, he's defo gone under the radar of most people. Up the reds
What a show! Love the analysis and learning the deeper aspects of football management on the pitch.
Amazing show! Fascinating stuff, could listen to you boys all day long!! Thank you as always.
Thanks for listening
This is going to be ace. My favourite 2 RedMen lads.
Excellent vid chaps. Very interesting. Although through no fault of yours, more questions than answers at this stage but will be fascinating to see how it plays out. Also random Slot fact, he's apparently never lost back to back games as a manager. That's that Jinxed then lol.
Very good analysis! Really enjoyed this lads, was glued to the screen at all times. I would myself possibly change out Robertson for Gomez if LB is converting to a CB while we are in attack. Gomez is better defensively than Robertson, but not as effective going forward as Robertson. Next season is going to be amazing if Slot can improve our team without buying any new players.
My theory is, that we are so tired now all around the team because we constantly let in one or two goals in first, almost every match, so we have to play extra intense every match to "catch up".
Background noise is off putting, close fecking door
Yeah man fully agree, think next season they need to get sound proofing in the studio because it gets jarring when your trying to listen to what they are saying and all I can hear is background noise 🤦🏽♂️
Agreed, def my favourite feature from redmen and the background noise ruins parts of it this episode
Personally I see and would use szoboszlai as winger, a Bale type player and use Salah in the 10. For me that would play more to their current strengths. Thoughts?
Szobo isn’t a bale type his pace isn’t close to Gareth’s
He's a wide 10
@@louishogarth8315I would've thought it would be a close race. Szobo defo better further forward than 8 anyway I reckon. I would consider selling mo and getting olise.
Salah is completely failing the eye test this season. Time to cash in.
Exactly, we've missed out on a lot of incoming money because we kept players a year too long. Only way we should keep him is if Virgil decides he doesn't want to renew and we cash in on him. We can't lose both though
Totally agree. His shooting is weak, dribbling less and passing isn't great. Decisions aren't what they were either. Jury is out. Olise is the answer
Another fabulous deep dive, thanks lads. Josh is brill at these.
Great episode ! Love it!
Very interesting analysis. Great work fellas.
On Mo, everybody keeps saying ‘Mo is showing songs of decline but look at his goal contribution’. Yes, he has given us goals but when you look at it, almost a third have been penalties and not ones he has won, as he seldom gets into the box as much.
A decline in Mo’s performance has been noticeable all season, not just since injury and not just in willingness to get a foot in, or in beating players, but also first touches. He doesn’t seem to be as able to bring the ball under control from a long weighted pass like he used to and has maybe lost a split second or so of reaction time as well in taking any pass. That allows defenders to get a foot in early and he seems reluctant to tackle back.
For a top player, he’s become too predictable to defenders this season, as all he wants to do is bring the ball onto his left outside the box and look for the top left hand corner. Impossible to say what the reason might be, but he’s become a bit one dimensional as an attacking threat.
Reluctantly we have to let him go. It broke my heart to see Bobby leave but i understood it was necessary for development of the team. We’re talking about Mo this summer, soon it will be big Virg. We have to make the tough calls at the right time.
Really did enjoy this show loads of info I needed to know and help me to see a bit of a brighter future with our New manager but guys you really do need to soundproof the studio. It is rather annoying when all I can hear is those noisy neighbours lol
Very interesting every time. Cheers lads, from Bulgaria 🤫
Looking forward to the new season. Curious to see how it goes. So many players want to get on the ball. Just need to make sure they are confident enough to take it away from the two centre halves more often. Too many times Konate, Virgil and Quansah have been our playmaker in the last few months
Love the Deep Dive boys, great job
Love these deep dives. Keep them coming
The trouble with a 4231, is that it’ll severely limit the amount of midfielders we can play. MacAllister, Elliott, Curtis, Szobo, all represent the future of the club. Most of them can play the 10, none of them are amazing options in the 6. Especially if one of the 6s will be Trent.
I think they can play ten Elliot Jones and szob and macca too. Also some on the wings too
I got your book Josh. Very insightful, good read, thx mate. (DATA GAME)
I think a new DM is needed. Endo has done an admirable job there, but he’s 31 and too small. He gets easily bullied off the ball by bigger players. Macca and trent are not natural DMs. Liverpool’s best seasons came when fabinho played well. They were poor when fab was forced to play CB and when he wasnt focused like last season. A new striker should also be a priority. It’s a disaster when the defence is exposed AND the attackers cannot score.
Half way through Josh's book data game
Feckin fabulous mate
🤟
Guys, love the show but please sort out the background noise. Dunno if it's just because I'm listening through headphones but really off putting hearing bantz in the background 😣
Watching this a day after Liverpool announced they’re getting a set piece coach is spooky!
Great show lads! 👏
Cant believe the quality of free content nowadays, thanks lads 👍🏼
Ngl I may be the only one thinking this but in terms of matching Slots role for Geertruida Joe Gomez is the closets and frees up Trent in the right double pivot with Macca, obviously may lose abit of width on that side with how narrow Salah plays but I think it gives far more balance, and you can always put in Bradley or Trent for more firepower
I feel u but I’d worry about the possession passing. Idk for sure but I feel like he misplaces passes at a slightly higher clip than some other guys we have
We’ve forgotten a reinvigorated carvalho who’s now got more confidence and match experience could come trying to play the 10 or left wing
Fuck me, that was a great one lads. Well done
We need a CB, DM, and a Forward who can play on the right
We also need a striker who can shoot
@@86Brasco Can only hope Slot's football will suit Darwin more :)
We need Ait Nouri
All well and good looking at overall set piece XG however you need to consider the number of actual set pieces teams win/create. Higher quality teams (reflected in league position) will naturally win more corners and free kicks and just through opportunity have a higher overall XG. A better metric would be to consider the average XG per set piece.
I’m into that 2nd team. Can see Bajetic going on loan after a season injured. Looking at squad depth…
Ali, Keheller
Bradley
Quansah, Konate
Virg, Gomez
Robbo, Kostas
Trent, Endo
Macca, Jones
Mo, Elliot
Sob, Gravenberch
Diaz, Gakpo
Nunez, Jota
Feel like we are just shy of a RB or CM (depending on the use of Trent). I’d prob say RB as Slot will surely use Trent as the midfield playmaker.
Best show on Redmen TV, Josh is quality 👍🏽
These videos are great per usual. But, there are some chatty Kathy's in the background!
This show is a must for fans wishing to analyze and understand the game. Regarding Chris's final setup, there has been too much crowding creating confusion this season and I feel his setup may continue this trend. However, Josh's lineup helps to negate that problem. I enjoyed the investigation and evaluation of Feyenoord and believe it will help the doubters become believers.
Loved this episode
This videos is gold!
Bass drop at 25:43
On the ball Trent is the perfect 6 but he isnt good enough defensively for that. Tough one
Id love a semi permanent view of the pitch when you do these types of vids. Top vid tho boys
Guys makes a lot more sense to put the formation board vertical and put your laptops on the actual desk lol
Where did arne rank in the manager list you made in your blog Josh Williams??
I think personally we'll need someone that is really good at carrying the ball in midfield that is good at close quarters with being able to hold the ball also
i think with slot wanting to play two cdms and geertruida being one of his fave players its set up for trent to move inside and have macca do the hard yards and geertruida come in at RB
Deffo wanna see Josh’s choice of team in pre season! Making wanna jump on FM
Trent actually has said midfield is his best position. I think it’s been a no brainer for a few years now but klopp has had it in his head that’s he’s a RB.
See him doing what kroos is doing at Madrid, like a deep playmaker
Klopp has never played Trent as a rb. Look at Trent’s average positions, consistently RW and cm.
@@jameshunter63 I know what you’re saying but he literally has played as a Rb…most top teams have their rb play as a winger at times, just Trent was the extreme case. Klopp called him ‘the RB’ recently too and still had to track back into RB
I'm excited tbh. Yes I'd rather Alonso but of the actual options, he's a good pick. I'm excited for new ideas
The change to the offside rule next season is going to massively improve Darwin. He's still our most dangerous forward in certain positions. He just needs some coaching and needs to do better at linking up. If that happens, he'll be immense.
Think Cavarho would be a great10 aswell
Trent's been most effective from right back. Mo has been amazing for us but, we have to cash in to rebuild for the future.
Brilliant video. Highlights an issue we need to address with set pieces and get a specialist coach! The coaching piece and how good defensive Feyenoord are is important. Yes it’s Eredivise but our squad is 3x the value of there’s so better players. If Slot can coach systems that improve our defending and bring more control it will help no doubt. The Eredivise vs PL argument is relative. Better players in our squad vs them.
25:43 someone turned on the microwave 😅
You forgot Carvalho and Van den Berg, both having good seasons
Hmm I wouldn’t say Geertruida was used as a decoy. He shoved into midfield a lot 15:30 from a fr fan perspective
Corners/set pieces...
Thomas Grønnemark
Left last summer.
We're no longer any good at defending corners/set pieces...
2+2=4?
He was throw ins
@@jonofitz11
He was initially hired for his knowledge on throw ins, but it moved on to being throw-ins, corners and all set pieces. It was to do with how the players receiving/defending the ball moved/blocked the movement.
Big up Josh for calling out Trent's unwillingness to defend, it annoys me a lot when I see it. That being said, I'm not at all convinced it will go away if he moves into midfield, so I'd be concerned by pairing him in a double pivot with Macca, would need something much closer to a specialist destroyer for that role, ie Palhinha.
Slot presumably will have a look at Sepp vd Berg first ,he is doing really well at Mainz tbf
When it comes to set pieces think that's one of the final things you focus on once you have the system sorted. Look at Arsenal and even what Ange is saying
Over the years Klopp has been reluctant to have a big squad... What is Arne Slot's stance on squad size? Going by his typical squad tactics/style, I would say it should be a large squad.
I think Arne Slot will take or Geertruida or Wieffer or even both with him from Feyenoord. In general I think Slot will do a good job in Liverpool. But give him, atleast for the first few month time to adjust to the pace of Premier league. If Arne Slot has been settled, and if Slot will be given the required time, then I personally think he can win the Champions League at some point in his Liverpool time. Having said that, winning the Champions League requires a bit of luck aswell, I will admit that one.
I Hope with new System :
4-2-3-1
New inverted LB-VVD-Quansah-TAA
Macca-New Top DM
Elliot/New RWB-Szobo-Gakpo
Jota/Nunez
Sell :
Salah, Diaz & Tsimikas
We obviously need more physicality in midfield. Our current midfielders have to dive in to win the ball, then the opposition fall over and win easy free kicks. Bigger, stronger players, just have to stand up and be in the way and won't give the fouls away. That Weifer looks ideal. Also a cb/lb is needed if we are going to attack down the right. Hincapie or Ignacio, or chance a bid for Colwill at Chelsea. Why can't Diaz play on the Rw and keep the width?
Tell them in the background to shut up!
I genuinely think we will win the league. We were really unlucky with var, injuries and in front of goal as well as individual errors and on set pieces rhis year. Klopp ran out of energy and slot will coming in getting us defending better and shooting more. Great content by the way. I would sell salah and keep the rest. Olise, szob and elliot even jota can cover him. Danns will get more game time. Trent in the middle and bradley rb
I think Slot needs to be ruthless with the attackers. Salah will go down as a legend and whilst might continue to get good numbers (15+ goals & assists) I think the overall team fluidity and form suffers. Nunez isn’t good enough, work rate is great and the craziness fun, but neither clinical nor great at link up. Diaz, Gakpo and Jota to stay with at least one ST/RW signing. Sobs/Elliot can cover on the right to. Trent to a double pivot in holding midfield. New RB and CB (ideally left sided to start the VVD replacement process). Move to a 4-2-3-1 would be good in my view, there’s a danger of not evolving and solely trying to replicate Klopps team/tactics.
Thats the same line up im predicting for next season
Massive risk.Specially with our team.Need a CM ASAP.
Honestly not sure why noone seems to be toying with the idea of moving Salah into the 10. His numbers have dropped and physically he isnt as fast or explosive anymore. Most wingers when they get old adopt a different position or role within a team, especially if they lose their pace and ability to beat a man, which is evident in Salahs case. Salahs assists this season are much higher than before, showing he has adopted his game and I think playing him in the 10 will get more out of him
Trent in a 433 is fine at right back. They key is replacing Robertson with a left footed centre back.
It sounds mad. But the problem here is Trent. He doesn't really have a position and you don't build a team around someone in a free role. Take him our if the team; and everything just looks better from a tactical sense.
my X1
Jota
Gakpo/new Mo Diaz
mac10 trent
Ait Nouri VVD Konate Bradley
Mo has to start playing central, jota our best finisher,
Diaz has to be Sold need a new RW, Kudus preferably
anyone else worried Chris's laptop will fall off as its hanging off the edge lol
Pretty sure van Dijk has played in a back 3 often for the Netherlands.
Gakkers at No. 10 for me. A perfect archetype for the position. He's not a forward and not a midfielder but a hybrid in between. Loves the ball played to his feet in tight spaces so he can turn and run at defences. Solid in the press in that position as he was brought in to cover the false 9. Feels like a position he was born to play!
It'll be interesting to see Dann in the number 9 position, I think he'll be perfect for it
Ben Doak if he shows promise in pre season , could get loads of games.
Nunez is a great player to bring on when 1-0 or 2-0. But to have him get our best chances and miss them, especially when the creativity and the pressing is at its maximum in the first half seems like too big a risk to take again.
Pretending like Henderson wasn't terrible in the air. Fantastic.
4-2-3-1 opens up a place Carvalho will fight for, if he comes back and keeps his form, he may be in the starting lineup by the end of next year.
0:50 "his PSV side.."
Really ?
I'd have thought more people would have picked up on this!
Thanks
Brilliant analysis as always boys love these deep dives, looking forward to Slot coming in.
Slot's LFC:
Alisson
Bradley, Ibou, Virg, Robbo
Trent, Bajcetic
Salah, Macca, Jota
Danns
Deep Dive, what a show. Josh is immense man. I believe EVERYTHING he says 😂
Big stats that worry me about Mo is his big chance conversion has fallen off a cliff and he has one non penalty goal from 50 shots.
I think (hope) this off season, we will sign Luke Kelly from Bournemouth on a free this and release Robbo to West Ham or Celtic, sign Michael Olise from Palace and release Mo to PSG or Saudi and then sign a more complete defensive mid like Foffana from Monaco. Try to renew Virgil and Trent on similar contracts. This would allow FSG too again have a minimum spend that they are so eager to achieve.
I think we should completely sestroy palace and sign eze, olise and mateta. Cant imagine they would let it happen but especially the first two tock all the boxes
I fail to understand, Geertruida is a right back, he is not a CB, he as played 32 as Right Back, 7 as Center Back.
Are proposing to buy him to replace Bradley, as TAA is not going to be playing right back if he is still here. It would be nice to look at a Left Footed centre back, like Gonçalo Inácio ...
If the game is stats then AI pick the team and transfers
Whos singing in the background? Hahaha
Pearls from Josh as usual. Well in lads.
Never mind Nunez chaos with headphones you can hear all the chaos in the ajoining room
