It’s a bit of a tricky one that, I think Lucas was a Buster Crabb fan who was both Buck Rogers and Flash Gordon, as well as Tarzan I think. I can’t remember which properly the studio owned now, but either way they wouldn’t give him the rights and we all benefited by getting Star Wars, which in tern gave us lots of epic sci-fi !
