I just picture them arresting someone and both the person they're arresting and all their fellow cops are doubled over laughing at them.

I'm not religious but at least most churches (here in the UK at least and I suspect the US too if you exclude megachurches and the ones that seem more political than spiritual) as well as mosques, synagogues etc...offer a sense of community too-these people exploit people's grief just for cash with no other benefits. Yeah people often walk away saying they are feeling better and have some peace but that very soon fades and they end up right back at square one. It frustrates me a lot

Doing it for notoriety etc yeah that's horrible. My group investigated the home of a gentleman and his second wife. The first wife was his HS sweetheart and she passed from cancer. He remarried and had a child and was reporting insane activity in the nursery. They were completely convinced it was his ex wife watching over them. We went in there for two days and gathered enough evidence to comfortably say that it was the ex wife. The last hour we were there, I look down the hallway towards the master bedroom where we had caught really good evidence and I swear on everything I love, I see a woman standing a few feet from me, it's hard to explain unless you have witnessed something like that but imagine a black stage with the spotlight on her only and as soon it registered that she knew I saw her, she was gone. Older woman, brunette, halfway down her back,blue floral sundress. No bad feelings or anything like that, just kind of a hey here I am type feeling. I didn't get scared but was definitely in WTF mode. I go outside, describe this woman to the homeowner, he brings out a photo album and points to a picture "was this her?" Not only was it the same woman but she was wearing the exact same dress 👗. The picture he showed me was from their last vacation together before she got sick. Knowing it was her we were able to help her cross over. He was very grateful and happy we were able to prove it was in fact her. We always check back in with clients and there was no more reported activity. Believe what you want I know what Ive seen, experienced etc and everyone has their own thing. An open mind is a great tool. But yeah sorry for the essay just wanted to share that 🙂

Recently, during the major hurricanes, instead of helping residents, many cops instead guarded the rotting food in grocery stores while people starved. Most of us will only encounter cops when someone steals something from us at which point they will show up, do some paperwork, say there's nothing they can do, and leave. We need robust community-led organizations to handle separate incidents, like mental health crises, homelessness, drug addiction, emergency evacuation, etc, these things should not be left to cops. We do not need armed cops responding to someone maybe passing a fake $20 (George Floyd) or an expired tab. These incidents are written in blood. And for the 1% of things cops can do, like stopping a shooting at a grade school, we can have small specially trained forces to deal with that as opposed to large, untrained departments with military grade weapons. The rest of the world does not have our cop lethality problem -- we should copy them.

I now live in Belize so when people ask me where I grew up and I say Illinois, they say, "Chicago?" like it's the only place in the entire state. I'm from a very tiny town of Mendota that's not even a suburb of anything but for people in Central America, you definitely have to describe everything by how far it is from Chicago, just like every other urban place.
