  • Hey everyone! This week I am talking about and demonstrating transfers. Transferring is a great skill to learn to gain more independence and to be able to access more places. At the beginning I used to use a transfer board to get from my wheelchair to other places. Over time I didn't need to use the transfer board. It definitely takes times to transition from the board to nothing.
    I enjoy doing floor transfers so I can go up and down stairs to get into homes without ramps and also to be on multiple levels. There are many different ways to get up and down from a wheelchair. Keep on trying and trying until you find a technique that works best for you. My physical therapist showed me how to get up from the side of my chair and it didn't work that well, but once I kept on practicing I was able to find a technique that works best for me. Keep on trying and you'll get it! :D

    Hello ! I am a nurse and your compilation of the different transfers is extremely interesting and enriching for my job. I think I'm using it for some of my patients...Thank you and...good song at the end. I don't know who sings, but I love it. Kiss from France!

      @@JackInAction Hi Jack, how are you doing my friend? Your a hero!!! Thank you for posting this video!!! Nice family. Transferring your wheelchair to your dining table is a great thing to learn. So important to transfer your body by taking a shower, washing up, back into your bed and then onto the wheelchair. Nice Christmas stockings. It’s good that you are learning your floor transfer. It’s good that you are able to get back on. Kind regards, from, PaulLaw.

    This is great stuff! Do your abdominal muscles work? Ho long did it take you to learn all this?

      Hey. Nonhlanhla! My abdominal muscles work a little bit! I definitely need to strengthen them more :) It took me a year or two to learn transferring with the board and then after that I learned how to go without it!

      Are you okay? You definitely need to speak with your doctor and therapist to help you find solutions that work for you. You need to also make sure that you are doing pressure relief (I am not sure how often) by shift your weight around or lifting up from your chair. Some manual wheelchairs and power wheelchairs also have some pressure relief features if you need that assistance.

    Are you able to safely stand using the table as some support and using your other arm to bring the chair close to you instead of having to hop so much?

      @JackInAction  3 года назад +1

      I can’t walk or stand like that. It’s safer for me to hop.
