    I'm 6'0"... The very first thing I did when I bought my V-Strom was lower the pegs, raise the seat, raise the bars, raise the screen, and install mirror extenders... No turbulence, tons of leg room, FAR more comfortable in nearly every circumstance.

      Do you need to put a lower seat? The reason I asked is, I’m the same height as yours and in the wait list for the vstrom 650XT. Thanks for sharing

    Its amazing how much difference the seat height makes.

      MR TPR yeah I know. Makes it feel like a completely different bike.

    I’m 5ft8 I have ordered 2024 650xt black and gold and order lower seat all together. (I really want both feet down especially with pillion)
    After watching your video I was bit surprised If 2cm can make such a big difference in ergonomic and driving dynamics.
    Anyway Ill get two seat option (std/low) so I will be able to choose which one I prefer better.
    Thanks for your opinion anyway. Cheers 🍻

      Honestly can’t remember. I had a low seat due to stock being too tall for me day to day.

    You should’ve swopped seats with your one sitting there? 🤷‍♂️ Thanks for putting this vid up 👌👍

    • @AGardenShed
      @AGardenShed  4 года назад +2

      Pete G that would be the logical solution. I know I can ride it with the standard seat it’s just a bit of a stretch.

    I also have the recall on the GSXS for the same fault, but my closest dealer is 23 miles away, the last recall was a 3 week wait for a weekend slot, I may wait till after winter to get it sorted.

    • @AGardenShed
      @AGardenShed  6 лет назад

      Suznet 555 yeah it’s not ideal. Wheels is 35 miles each way for me. Mine was booked in to have the decals redone as they ripped them when putting them on. So they did it at the same time.

    Super interested in lowering one I just bought!!

    • @AGardenShed
      @AGardenShed  3 года назад

      I’ve ridden various factory lowered bikes. I find it completely ruins the handling. In terms of you hit a bump and due to the shortened movement in the shocks the rebound seems to fire you out the seat. But other people lower bikes with no issue.

    Very interesting! My "Glee" arrives tomorow and I was wondering if Id need to lower it (dog-bones) As Im just under 5-8 and I know your are only 5-6.

    • @AGardenShed
      @AGardenShed  3 года назад +1

      Hi Steve, you may be alright, ride it first and see. If its new remember the suspension beds in after 1000 miles or so. I suppose it depends on how long your inner leg is rather than your overall height. i went for the low seat as I'm not a fan of lowered bikes. I'm sure you'll find out what is best for you. Happy Riding.

    Just a thought but have you tried a short test run with the mirrors off? if that makes a difference, try a set of Double Take Adventure mirrors which are very adjustable, being a two point ram mount system.

    • @AGardenShed
      @AGardenShed  6 лет назад

      pgod1960 yeah I have. It’s definitely the mirrors. Apparently the mirrors from the Aprila tuono work amazingly well. Currently debating whether to get a set. You only really notice it on motorways and dual carriageways. So debating whether it worth it as I tend to avoid them when I’m on the bike and the stock mirrors offer incredible visibility. Don’t worry this was the last time I plan on mentioning them ha ha.

    I don't think I would even try with the high seat. I might have to see if there's one around here with a low seat to try though.

    • @AGardenShed

      CalmBiker the first time I rode a vstrom one it was as a courtesy bike so it was either attempt to ride the normal one or sit at a bike dealership all day. I can ride it but it’s far from ideal and a big stretch even just to get it off the stand. I have to slip off the side of the seat to get my foot down at junctions. I would never own one with the normal seat. Didn’t bother switching the seats over on the demo I was recently leant as knew I could ride it the short way home (not many points I’d have to stop and put my foot down). Rather incredibly they also do a tall seat for them as well which is 20mm above standard. Doubt I could even reach the pegs with that.

    I have a 2017 V-Strom 650 with the regular seat. I am 5'8" with 29" inseam. Do you have the foot peg lowering kit on your bike? That might change how the bike feels for you and will definitely give you more leg room.

    • @AGardenShed
      @AGardenShed  3 года назад

      Ah interesting. No I don't have a lowering kit, I dont have much of an issue with my knees starting to ache untill I'm a couple of hundred miles into a journey. I was of the understanding if you have a centre stand you cant fit one as it gets in the way. May have a look into it though, Thanks for the advice.

    • @tommoore2572
      @tommoore2572 3 года назад

      @@AGardenShed Not the the kit that lowers the bike. Just the foot pegs. Here is an example.

    • @AGardenShed
      @AGardenShed  3 года назад

      @@tommoore2572 yeah I know what you mean. Suzuki do a lower foot peg kit aswell but it states it cannot be fitted with the centre stand. I think where the centre stand joins the frame must get in the way. I just assumed if you have the centre stand then no lower footpegs will work.

    There are def advantages and disadvantages to getting the low versions of bikes. My 765 doesn't suffer the turbulence you have but then it is a naked and they always suffer less. Ground clearance is an issue though, and the seat is also not as comfy I don't think. It is awesome being able to get both feet down though.

    • @AGardenShed
      @AGardenShed  6 лет назад +4

      Hippo-Drones indeed. For me the disadvantages of a low seat are less than the disadvantages of the normal seat. I think the mirrors on the vstroms are a bike related issue as they sit a lot taller than any bike I’ve ridden. I removed the mirrors on dads tiger to compare and in the same mount the vstrom mirrors sit 2-3cm higher up. Yeah don’t think I’d want to own a bike I couldn’t get at least the balls of my feet down. It’s too much hassle if you can’t. Fine for short journeys where you don’t need to stop but it would be a hassle to own the bike. Hence why I went for the low seat on the vstrom as with it the seat height is 20mm lower but the seats also narrower so makes it easier when getting your feet down. Us shorties know the shape of the seat effects your ability to touch the ground as much as the actual seat height.

    • @HippoDrones
      @HippoDrones 6 лет назад

      aye, my V7 has a low ish seat, but due to how wide it is compared to my 765 it is easier to get my feet down on that rather than the V7. On My Beta, I can barely get one foot down! lol :D

  • @OldManTony
    @OldManTony 6 лет назад

    I suppose the bike is designed for the standard set up, everything else is a compromise. Mirrors and turbulence coming off low at the the side of the screen etc cause the most turbulence in my experience.

    Of course a low seat affects the V-strom -- it allows your feet to reach the ground better.
    Sometimes that alone is worth any trade-off in riding position.

    • @AGardenShed
      @AGardenShed  3 года назад +1

      Indeed. But I was trying to note the less obvious changes that occur when you change it.

    • @AGardenShed

      Never been a fan of lowered bikes. I think it wrecks the ha doing. They seem to rebound a lot more as they come out of bumps making it feel bouncy.

  • @mikebaldueza3256

    How about in terms of comfort? Does it greatly differ ftom the Standard seat?

    • @AGardenShed
      @AGardenShed  3 года назад

      The standard seat definitely has more padding and is more comfortable. I have not found the low seat to be uncomfortable however. As a result of the seat being lower it does mean your hips are 20mm close to the pegs which tightens the angles your knees are at. I have bad knees but it doesn't cause me an issue before around 300 miles in a day.
