We had a small wedding and put more money into our house. Been married for 18 years and we're not even thinking about redoing our wedding. We're happy and enjoying new chapters in our lives. Don't over think it! Just DO IT!

I did the same, told my dad, rather have a huge one day party or a smaller one and have a house for kids to be happy in.
He agreed with us... small party, house with kids.
Offered my three daughters the same deal. One chose cash, the other two chose weddings. I’m very conservative financially, but the weddings were awesome!

Get married, sure the wedding is a great memory, but it’s only one day that carries too much stress and costs. Have multiple receptions, FL, WI, and IN.

As long as you love one another nothing else matters. My husband and I married in a small wedding after dating four months. I didnt care where we got married. This year will be our 38th wedding anniversary . I look back on our small wedding and still cry at how beautiful it was . Dont sweat over this and definitely dont cry your in love ❤❤❤❤
I’m in awe at your ability to find someone you match with so perfectly that you knew you wanted to get married so soon after knowing each other. That kind of strong love that hits you like a bus is so hard to find, I’m glad you were able to find it!
Big Expensive weddings tend to fail after a few years!!! It's all about her having her big day. Small weddings, even courthouse weddings tend to last far longer.

I met my wife Nov 1987 and after seeing and talking to her that afternoon, I knew I was going to marry her. Got engaged 1988 and married September ‘89. Our anniversary is on Labor Day weekend so that every year we get a three day weekend to boot. Her family was out of state as well as most of mine. We paid for our small wedding in cash and ask immediate family attend as well as a couple friends. We had a very small cake and punch reception right after vows. Less than 30 people total attended. Our 35th wedding anniversary is coming up and I am so glad she hasn’t run away screaming for putting up with me all these years. She’s a keeper and love her as much today as the day I met her.

My Family was from North Carolina, and my wife was from Maryland and we were both living in Illinois. So guess what, did did the wedding in Illinois and all of our family and friends showed up because they wanted to be there. We told everyone not to bring gifts as we already had two houses worth of stuff. Their gift was just getting there and being part of the festivities.
We kept it small with 100 people and it was super fun. 18 years later we are still together and people are still talking about our wedding. It was super fun and the videos from the party are still on YT for all of our friends to go back and remember that time!
End the end, don't sweat it. Do you, but it doesn't have to be huge and expensive to have a great time. Keep it simple and put that money towards something else you can build memories together with.

I always hear people recommending young couples to live together for 3-5 years before deciding on marriage. You haven't been together for a year yet! Neither of you have shown your partner all the crazy or bad parts of your personalites. Give yourself some time. I don't want you to get married too soon and then find out it was a mistake. Look at Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell, they have been together for over 40 years without being married. Why? Both had come from failed marriages and divorce and were afraid to be married again and ruin their relationship.

That definitely is not a lie and I'm from Iowa, not Wisconsin, but a little old Midwestern girl. Many things to say… this day is for y’all. That’s the issue, everybody wants to have their input and say… it’s whatever makes YOU happy. There is no rush. You’ve only been engaged for 9 months. I do understand dad wanting to see the place before deposits and stuff are put down, but if he’s gonna offer to pay he either needs to make the trip down or possibly do a FaceTime type of thing. Remember if you find a spot, others are looking too and most venues won’t lock your date until there is a deposit. I think it’s cool that y’all are doing this here. Absolutely get it done in your happy place. Doesn’t matter where you get married it will be (or can be) mad expensive. No matter if you go all out or take it down a notch, being that you’ve been together for so long, you kinda are married now anyway… do what feels right for you. You can legit get married next weekend and in a year from now have the big party. I’m so hyped though… you guys are fun and it will be a great day whenever, wherever it is. Cane’s…. Being originally from NJ and now being in Florida for over a year- never had the opportunity to check out Cane’s. I hear it’s all overhyped. The sauce is what makes Cane’s. Speaking of chicken places… yooo…. Take a roadie to Kissimmee. Colby’s!!! We had one in NJ and they opened their second spot in Kissimmee. The everything they got is amazing. Nothing like being married and the so called "piece of paper". Life will change when there is a legal obligation attached to a relationship, if it doesn't, you truly have no sense of reality. If the couple in question are much older and/or there are offspring, financial reasons, I could understand. Making excuses to not commit to the "legal" part of a relationship, marriage, is just that, an excuse to truly commit.
@@meghan7547 I agree with you completely. If they love each other that much to get engaged, there must be other reasons not to get married? My marriage cost next to nothing, because marriage is not about a one day big party but about celebrating your love for each other. In our case we were mature enough getting married was our day not about making else happy. Still I wish them the best!

Just have a nice intimate wedding and take off for a vacation. Have fun and enjoy yourselves on your day. We were engaged for 5 years and if I had to face a big wedding we wouldn't have been married for 35 years now. We planned a vacation, had a very small low-stress wedding planned in 2 weeks (25 people) overlooking the ocean, took everyone to a nice restaurant and took off for Maui, our originally planned vacation, the next day. Worked out well and we had a great time.

I've been engaged for 2 years this year, and my wedding isn't until next year. ❤ I'm happy we have a long engagement because it allowed us to find a venue that we really like and can afford. And it did allow us to set up our finances even more. 😊 Don't rush, it's not a competition. 😊

I met my love first time dec 3rd 2004, we got ingage on chrismas eve same year, we got married in april 2005 and bought out house in may 2005.. We have 2 kids and are still in love after 20 years.. The only time I ever shed a tear in public is when the last post is playing during a vet's (when a service person dies) funeral! Absent friends!
I get you are caring for others and want to make sure everything matches expectation. But, it will just be one day. The day will fly pretty quickly and you will then be married. From my wedding day, neither one of us remembers it; we were just happy to be with friends and family. If you need to do a separate ceremony or reception in your home town, go back, fly out, and do something special. It is time to move forward.

Back when I was in school I had small purple stripes on my white sneakers... I was teased to the point that I threw out all my clothes and my mom took me to Macy's. Maybe that group of teasers was wrong about their belief of the color purple.... But redoing my entire wardrobe at Macy's with more grown up clothes got me a shocking amount of respect for the rest of that school year. Honestly I look back on the teasing as one of the best things that ever happened to me. It's funny to now hear purple may have been fine all along.

Ohhhh yeahhh, have nice-sounding JBL TUNE 130NCs, they don't have extra thing to get more grip inside ear shell, so usually fall out every 3-5 mins from it. But I don't want to get new ones while these function perfectly fine.

I lived and dated my husband 10 years before I got engaged and then 3 years from the time I got engaged to the time I got married. It’s ok to wait when you are ready I had very many of the same things go on with my wedding as well and at the end of the day yes it’s nice to have family there but it’s really about what makes yall happy ❤
@Hunna & Lib, you’ve been engaged for 9 months. My fiancée and I have been engaged for 3 1/2 years. Anytime I bring up ideas for the wedding, eloping always comes up.
A Dad here, that went through this in 2021. My daughter had a beautiful wedding with 200 of her closest friends. I don't regret any of it. it was a lot of money and it multiplies quickly after you secure the venue. I would suggest you secure a really good wedding planner that can help keep the process smooth and realistic with your budget. you want one located in the area of the venue you choose that is familiar with the venue and venders in that area. I would ask the venue for recommendations . Good luck in your planning.
It is completely fine to not rush the wedding process, me and my wife (25m and 24f) were engaged for a year before we even started planning, we got engaged in August 2021 and the first meeting we ever had for wedding planning was january 2023 and the wedding itself was 2023 so take your time and good luck with the planning 😊

Take your time. My cousin got married at Washington, and we had to travel so I get that.
You get married when you're ready. Air b n b is a good option for ppl to stay. You could cut costs with having someone close do your flowers, wedding cake, & have your food catered. Sweet yourself a budget for your wedding and stick to that. If you need someone to do flowers I'm available, no charge-you just cover cost of the materials.

My wife's parents were from NY city and so was her whole family. My wife and I lived in near Richmond Va. We got married in Washington DC in a big 300+ people wedding. We were also engaged for 18 months before the wedding. I can tell you we spent over 100K 25 years ago, and it turned out being more for everyone else than it was for us. Looking back, we kinda wished we would have made it for us, just inviting immediate fam & a few friends. Libby, maybe try to get appts all in a weekend for venues you like and ask your parents to come and just tour with you guys and make a joint decision by the end of the trip. That's what we did. However big or small, the people that love you will get that and just want the best for you anyway. Try not to stress. You both have such a mature, level head about things. Just keep supporting and loving each other. The rest will come. Best of luck to you both.

Tip - do not spend on a party. Trip guys, big one is much better. Like you said, this is for the dresses and everything but the thing that really stays in your heart is the ceremony.

I've been with my Fiancé for almost 10 years and we have been engaged for 9 years. The reason we haven't been married before now is because we can't afford it. Please don't rush into picking a venue or a dress or anything like that because if you do rush you could regret your choices x
I spent very little on my wedding, but had a house. Just 4 people, the other two were my old neighbours and there to witness. If you are really in love you don't need to spend big. Trying to impress others is not what being in a relationship is all about.
@@TheJon2442 I didn't mean we couldn't afford it because we want a big wedding, I mean we can not afford to get married at all. No matter how small it would be we just can't afford it. We get benefits (we are from the UK ) and by the time we have paid our bills, bought food, paid for transport to my many hospital appointments we have no money spare at all. We love each other so much but unfortunately love won't pay for a wedding

y'all, if you want the best wedding at like a country club or something like that. anywhere in MN. (deadass) every country club that has a wedding will give you the best things. plus, think about Libby's family. there close so for grabbing things for the bride they can just drive it to. Even Tho hunters family might have to travel a bit, it is worth it. also, we have NO TAX ON CLOTH. after the wedding, the next day you can go to the mall of America and spend time there and get some cloths for no tax. plus, you can say you were in the biggest mall in the USA. trust me. the sunsets are stunning. always orange and red with some purple and the nights get to around 50-70 degrees. daytime maybe 80. just giving ideas. have a good day.

My fiancé and I have been engaged since October of last year and still have no idea what we are doing or how we are gonna do it 😂 kinda funny, my fiancé is from Wisconsin and I’m from Indiana! We are currently living in Indiana but plan to move out of state soon I hope. We are thinking about having a destination wedding in like Colorado or Hawaii but it gets crazzzzy expensive so fast 😮💨 like you guys said, there are a bunch of factors that play into it for family travel, the time to go look at venues, and just a bunch of stuff. It’s super stressful BUT there is nothing wrong with a long engagement and as long as you guys are happy together, that’s all that matters 💛
