Students are constantly bombarded with images and expectations of what they should look like, how they should act, and who they should be friends with. Students are expected to excel in every subject, participate in extracurricular activities, and obtain an ATAR score to get into a good college. Friendships can be fickle, romantic relationships can be volatile, and conflicts with peers can become all-consuming. These emotional ups and downs can be difficult to navigate and can leave lasting scars. It is important for to prioritise understanding a subject during a test rather than just having students memorize stuff that they can’t explain or know nothing about.
Finally, why do the school holidays even exist if students are expected to study for all their subjects. It completely ruins the holiday. I would rather just have another two weeks of school instead if students have homework and study to do over the holidays. Teachers say that you should spend 1 hour a day studying for each General subject that you have and two hours a day per ATAR subject. This is utter nonsense and I have only spent 1 hour this year studying for General Ancient History and I am getting 80 percent. What about the rest of my subjects? I barely study for an hour a week outside of school and maybe 40 minutes a week during school per ATAR subject and I am not failing any of my subjects. Therefore, this just proves that homework and study is utter garbage and a complete waste of time, energy, and effort. It only causes stress, anger and arguing while resulting in students hating their teachers and family.
