- How to remove battery from VW Passat B6. If you need to remove the battery from a Passat then this video shows the steps and the bolt that you often can't see.
You'll need a 13mm socket with extension bar and 10mm socket or spanner
Remember to remove the negative terminal first when you disconnect the battery. The video shows the terminals being loosened but not the order of removal
It's a model 096, capacity 70Ah, 340A, VW part number 1J0 915105 AE - Авто/Мото
Thanks, that was a perfect guide to replacing the battery. Only took 10 minutes.
Thanks, I was able to change the battery. I have impressed my husband who is out of station.😅😅😅
That's good news!
Many thanks - did the job. Just for info - our 2009 1.4TSi Bluemotion had a 12mm bolt for holding the battery! :-)
Thanks for the info
Thanks for this! Just noticed the 13mm bolt that holds the batter in place is missing on my Passat :-( will get it replaced.
That's, that was just what I needed.
Great I would like to see if this requires a magnetic 13mm socket? I don't think I have one of those...
Mine isn't magnetic and worked just fine. You could always use some tape to stick the bolt to the socket if it's loose
Did this myself today but a better question, did you code/register the battery? I'm not sure if the B6 needs it or not
Answered it myself. Coded in with Carista, change the end number of the battery value to anything and hit save.
Does Passat B6 have any weird stuff to reset after replacing the battery? For example, some older VW cars had radio system that locked up on battery removal and needed some kind of code to be entered to unlock the radio system.
Not that I've found. Radio is coded to the car so will just work as normal
Stop start battery should be coded in or the new battery will be aggressively over charged and won't last long
Thanks, that's a good point. My car isn't stop/start so wasn't an issue for me
My Passat b6 bluemotion has start stop. Do I have to bypass the battery when changing?
Do you need something to keep the computer memory current before removing the battery?
No it's automatically stored, depending on the radio you might need to enter the security code
@@ajvw thnxs
Do you need to enter the BEM code using diagnostics like VCDS?
I've never needed to do that no
Why do you suggest to disconnect the + (red) first and then the - (black) connector?! This is terrible wrong!!!
On this type off car first disconnect the one closest to the windshield... (black / -)
(For the rest I liked your video)
That's a good point, I'll add a note
I've just checked the video again and the positive terminal is NOT removed first. The nut is undone but it's not removed. I've put a reminder on the intro to make sure it's clear that negative should be actually removed from battery first
And when back battery first connect black and then red?
The point of removing the negative terminal first is because it is connected to the chassis. Always you should remove the negative terminal first, even before undoing the clamp bolt. If your wrench, when undoing the clamp bolt, touches the positive terminal or when undoing the positive terminal your wrench touches the car's body you may cause short and weld or injury may occur. For electronics in the car it is the same if you have removed them in any order.
Ah thank you! The manual won't even tell me where the stupid battery is.
hi, hope you'll see this. but after i change the batter i have got varming ligts on my servo and ABS on my 2008 Passat? can you or anyone else advice, than in advance
You might need software like Vcds to clear them but I've never found lights appearing when changing the battery. The lights might go after driving the car
@@ajvw thank you fro the replay, i will check that !
Which should you remove first - the negative or the positive?
negative
Why not positive?
Are you positive?
How do you remove the part 2 of the black plastic? I don’t get it loose…anyone have had the same problem?
Me too. Wont budge!
What size battery does it take?
It's a model 096, capacity 70Ah, 340A, VW part number 1J0 915105 AE
@@ajvw thanks!
Install parallel a battery charger.
how can I remove the 13mm if it got corroded and wont come loose ?
Try WD40 and failing that a bolt extractor
Can it shock you?
Yes it can if you touch both the terminals. Be careful and if you're not sure what you're doing then take it to a garage
@@ajvw touch both terminals at once you mean?
Yes
The voltage is only 12 V so if the skin of your hands is dry, you shouldn't feel the shock even if you touch both terminals with bare hands at the same time. However, cars use lead battery and if ANYTHING metallic touches both battery terminals at the same time, you'll see sparks and possibly get molten metal, too, because lead battery can give out really high currents on short circuits. Make sure you don't have e.g. loose chains or metallic tools that can touch the terminals while working with battery. A surprisingly common mistake is dropping a wrench on top of the battery which touches both terminals at the same time. Also note that as long as the negative terminal is connected, accidentally connecting the positive terminal and car body (or any part of the engine in practice) will also result in short circuit with very high current.
The recommended way to disconnect the negative battery terminal first is designed to reduce the possibility of accidental short circuit between the positive terminal and car body. Some people also claim that this reduces sparking but I'm a bit sceptical about the supposed reason this would actually make a difference. In some rare cases the car body is connected to positive battery terminal and with such cars, the recommended disconnection order is the reversed.
@@MikkoRantalainen that was very detailed thanks
Can you just change a battery without losing your instrument settings
You need to add parallel a battery charger.
I cant take the battery off because the housing is blocking the battery to come out. what should i do?
Which housing is blocking it?
Nvm I got it out. It was stuck on the clamps on the bottom of the housing
Followed this advice now my alarm is going off and not stopping
The trick was to close the hood go inside the vw close the doors and lock the car
@@svenvoigt1882 glad you found the solution. I've never had this happen on all the times I've done it on my Passats.
Tengo un Passat v6 2006 que topo de batería lleva ojalá me puedan ayudarme
