This is another one where Janick Gers and Bruce Dickinson collaborated... they've never performed it live, but it has this cinematic quality to it. I think Bruce Dickinson was friends w/ Freddie Mercury (lead singer of Queen) who passed away from AIDS in 1991... The AIDS epidemic in the 80's was not a popular topic, and it was first believed to be a gay man's disease. I remember as a kid in 1986, the fear & panic that spread when news spread that AIDS was classified as an HIV (virus) that was sexually transmitted in all communities (not just gays). It didn't help when the US president Ronald Reagan refused to admit its existence... but condom sales skyrocketed in the aftermath 😂 But the death of Freddie Mercury from the disease cast a huge shadow and AIDS awareness... but 5 years later! It was only in the 90's that people started to talk about it openly and be empathetic to the gay communities that were decimated by the virus. But wards were filling up w/ straight people as well, infected w/ HIV... Former N.W.A. rapper Eazy-E was diagnosed w/ HIV in 1995 and died ... former tennis great Arthur Ashe died in 1993 from the disease (both were straight)... Former Ratt guitarist Robbin Crosby announced he had tested positive for HIV in the 90's... Badlands singer Ray Gillen also died in 1993 from AIDS. So, this was the context in which 'Fear is the key' was written back in 1992... Iron Maiden were a successful touring band in the 80's that did indulge in drugs and groupies backstage, so that epidemic was a concern to them...
Nice Maiden Shirt Hurm. This is another good song on the album. This is about the AIDS epidemic that started to become awfully noticeable in the early- to mid-eighties and that was blissfully ignored by millions until the death of celebrities started to occur, making it obvious that no-one was safe when it came to the HIV virus. The song highlights the fact that, after the so-called "sex revolution" of the 70s, the late 80s and early 90s were the start of a new conception of sex; it wasn't about freedom anymore, but about fear - the fear to contract HIV though sexual contact. On to Childhood's End.
And they recently (maybe 2 months ago) announced a brand new variant of HIV (after 40 years) even worse than before for more fear, but don't worry they're working on a vc to make you "safe" ;) This song is one of the worst on the album for me, mostly because of the change up and the out of tune Bruce in parts and crap "lies" lyrics. I'm a fan of change ups in songs but not this one, thought it was terrible. Childhood's End I much prefer.
@@DM-rc4yu ?? Are you referring to the vc comment? I'm not anti vc mate but since the whole cough problems last couple years the pharma industry are going to solve everything with pointy thing in you and they push the safe agenda all the time. My point is (no pun) there's no cure for HIV for 40+ years but now they think there will be since the new variant. cmon dude they're dreaming..
Ehhhh. I forgot about this song. Yeah, I still don’t like all of it. There’s parts like the chorus that’s good but that “lies” breakdown is bad. A solo would have helped bridge it.
This is an overlooked Maiden song, a personal favorite of mine.
Funky, catchy groove. Sometimes you don't need a killer solo to put a song over. God I love this band!
Funky LOL
This is the best song of this album..... the atmosphere
For me Judas Be My Guide is so underrated.
Hurm, you’ve more than earned the right and honour of wearing an IRON MAIDEN t-shirt! 🤘
Its one of the better tracks on the album for me.
A killer tshirt and a nice reaction. The album ia going on for good
I would love to be a first time listener for these songs. This one had Freddy Mercury in mind at time of writing and release.
What people don’t realize is this song was written in the middle of the Freddie Mercury passing. Bruce & Freddie were close friends back in the day.
Dont forget to react Fear of The Dark live at Rock in Rio
God, this gives me flashbacks to how I felt when the album was released - depressed and disappointed. The downward spiral continued...
If that song was on another band's album it would have been the main pie, but for an Iron Maiden album it is another normal song.
This song have Deep Purple feel.

@@off1k That's not out of tune, that's Ian Gillan style of singing.
This one has good and punching lyrics, but the music is just OK to me
Welcome to the club! 🤣
there is better to come
Oh yes t shirt lookin good on you, this song is good but obviously isn't one of there best!!!!
It’s okay, starts off solid with a catchy riff but then loses me a bit.

One of the weaker songs imo
