  • If you've ever wondered how to turn the super popular Jelly Roll Rug pattern into a placemat, RJ Designs now has a pattern that gives you step-by-step instructions, PLUS ideas, dimensions and number of strips needed for pillows, placemats and trivets!
    We're kicking off our 12 Makes of Christmas 2019 series with this project because it makes a great gift, can be completed in a weekend and can easily be customized to all kinds of tastes and seasons.
    And this is a big bonus ... if you had trouble with getting the oval or round jelly roll rugs to lay flat, this straight version is guaranteed to be as flat as a pancake because there are NO curves. And we give you all the tips you need to help keep your strips super straight.
    In the video I show you everything you need to make this project. We cover how to:
    Stuff your jelly roll strips with batting and stitch down the center to secure them with stitching down the center
    - Sew your strips together using a zig zag stitch
    - Arrange your strips so the outside has a neat single fold edge
    - Cut your project to size for a placemat or pillow
    - Bind the raw edges for a placemat or trivet
    - Create a pillow
    - Cut out and bind your coasters from the leftover bits
    When you finish watching it, you'll know everything you need to make a fabulous set of matching placemats, coasters and trivet or a pair of pillows from one jelly roll!

    I iron my strips in half first, which helps me fold them easier.

    I do not sew my cording strip at all. I zig zag the cord (folded edge) to my rug. Is the method ok? Thank you

    Sigh. Being Canadian, our exchange rate is not good... so I may need to wait until you folks get a better President, so the world is more confident in your economy (and therefore ours) and our currencies are more aligned, before I can shop American again. But I like what you've shown us here, and would love to be able to order my fabric from you, Stephanie. Great projects, great tutorial, thank you!

    After I see the 1st 2 strips tog on the “open” edge, leaving the folded edge to the outsides,,,, wouldn’t u have to see the next strip of 2’s to the 1st on a open side to a folded side??? Or did I miss something in the instructions????

    When you get done with the fold could you iron the strip before you sew it then chain piece it? Or use a binding foot?

    • @QuiltAddictsAnonymous
      @QuiltAddictsAnonymous  4 года назад

      I'm not sure if it would fit through a binding foot. It might be to bulky with the batting in there. I would say give it a try and see if it works!

    could you please tell me what you are spritzing on, as I suppose that it is not clear water, and why you are using it. ? lilian DK,

    • @QuiltAddictsAnonymous
      @QuiltAddictsAnonymous  4 года назад +1

      This bottle is actually just clear water. We do not use water in our irons, so a little spritz of water can help if you have wonky fabric. A spray starch alternative (such as Best Press) can also be used if your fabric needs a bit more attention.
