    More on Ragers
One of my tricks to deal with Ragers when you got them up close is to flank them because their attacks will remain straight on and when they muilti attack they are fairly immobile, well they take a few steps but don't turn quickly. So you sidestep or slide to the side of them. At worst you'll only get one weapon attack not both.
Another way to melee kill them is to use Fury and charge them.
The first you hit will get an automatic crit and it'll stop one and stun the rest for a moment if they're in a tight group. If you're a CC optimized Zealot you can pick off one or two more before they start their berzerk attacks again. Then retreat and if you have another charge do it again. But this is still dangerous. Do it when you have full toughness and wounds only.
Another way is with a Deimos Force Sword (as a Psyker). They can poke from beyond the long rager range, just keep pace with stepping back to keep distance constant as they advance .
An Eviscerator (as a Zealot) can do that too as the sweeps of it reaches longer than you'd think, if you keep at that range. I wonder if they even gave these weapons to these classes to specifically deal with the ranger long reach and aggression.
    More on Reapers
I've been kicked by Reapers and gotten downed or even died from it (from that hit or another when you're down). That kick is not harmless unlike the annoying but weak kick from gunners and bombers. It's an Ogryn sized kick. So avoid it if possible by engaging and backing off a bit and circle and go in again. Keep on the move and you won't get the boot.
Something that happened to me the other day was that a reaper kept firing at melee range, I sidestepped and got on his side and even back but the bullets being shot forward still hit me somehow even if I wasn't in front of the barrel.
So beware this. It doesn't commonly happen but it can sometimes so get rid of the Reaper as quickly as possible.

The OG chain axe is pretty good against ragers as well, it's light attack stun locks them. It's light attacks are overall great against elites and specialists

Maybe the ranged attack audio cue only plays the first time a given ranged enemy targets you? So you hear it once per enemy?

As a new player i’m running veteran and have somewhat settled on the devils claw sword for the time being. I know you’ve said melee is more preference but i’m struggling to find a melee that gives decent stagger/ horde handling capability that doesn’t hit like a wet noodle. Any suggestions? Is it finding good stat rolls?
    Edit:i run the stubby revolver

Stat rolls are good, but some weapons are just plain better as a baseline. The chainsword is pretty good on vet, it even does well against armored enemies if you use the revved attack.
