I was always unsure whether this was ever meant to actually be in the movie. The way it was shot was quite different from the rest of the film and it's visual style seems closer to a TV commercial than a big budget movie.

No. It was shot as a teaser. Never with the intention of being in the movie. Sony hired a new director who had only done music videos at the time and gave him 2 million to shot a scene for a trailer.
Sam Raimi never directed this scene. Strictly a teaser.

I heard that this scene was planned for the movie and was intended to be the first appearance of Spider-Man in his official costume. This scene was shot BEFORE 9/11 happened. When 9/11 happened all the NYC scenes had already been shot and the movie was in it's editing process. When the attack happened, they were faced with a very difficult decision of whether or not to delete this scene. If they hadn't, they probably would've put a disclaimer before the movie started saying, "Note: All scenes were shot before 9/11 happened." But they felt, keeping this scene would upset the families and friends of the victims, so they were forced to delete this scene and digitally remove the towers from all the shots. Getting rid of this scene was probably the hardest edit they made because they really did not want to get rid of it because it was such a cool scene.
I think that was just a promotional commercial. I dont think it was ever part of the movie.
+Zack Woodd It is. That scene originally was in James Cameron's script for Spider Man movie back in 90's. Later when Cameron left the project, Raimi took alot scenes from Cameron's script. And this scene is one of them.

this scene was legit. They were going to use this scene but after 9/11 they decided "no, let's leave that out and have Spiderman rescue some bank robbers and thieves." because it might have affected those who lost loved ones. Then as the last shot in the movie, they had Spiderman look out over New York on the American flag as a way of paying homage to those who lost their lives. I thought that was pretty cool the way they did that.

Well,to be honest,even in the movie's final swing,you can see the Twin Towers while Spider-Man climbs the American Flag

This scene would have been epic. It just fits in a Spiderman movie. "A villainous fly caught in a spider's web."
When Uncle Ben started saying “great responsibility”, police sirens started going off in the distance in real life and it legit gave me goosebumps
it’s impossible however for the sirens to respond to the towers because the film was filmed from january to july of 2001 and if reshoots took place in september then the crew would stop filming

Today is 9/11, at 10 am. 22 years since it happened. Maybe the world should see the original cut with all the Tower scenes in. It would be a great tribute to the lost ones and to the Towers themselves. They were huge iconic parts of New York and the country. And seeing them in all their glory is just beautiful.
We must always remember that horrible day. And never forget that cowards will try to destroy anything they want, we can't let them. And they need to be stopped.
Bless the lost, and the heros who tryed to save them.

@Morgothos people aren't just gonna forget that it happened. *Especially* those who lost someone. Yes, people aren't as emotional about it compared to back then because we have grown, but we will never forget. We haven't forgotten Pearl Harbor and that was over 70 years ago.

We cannot just ignore the negative and evil things out in the world. Acknowledging and knowing its there gives people who actually want to shape the world into something better a chance to get to the bottom of why this is happening and maybe do something about it instead of just pretending it isn't there.

Also, I know this certain tragedy didnt effect you or others in any way, but showing just a tiny amount of respect for those who were actually effected and lost their treasured loved ones is all the general public asks for....You dont have to give a long ass eulogy for every single person that died.. just a simple "RIP for those people" ... it's easy as that. Saying a statement about why cant everyone get over 9/11 will not help you. It wont help anyone. You'll just have angry and upset people @ing you for days, which I'm sure you dont want.

I remember seeing this teaser on tv and it was right before 911. After the towers fell they stopped playing this teaser and I couldn’t find it anywhere till RUclips became a thing and someone posted it

There really was a part where they left the Twin Towers in the film, it's a quick shot where you can clearly see them in the reflection of Spiderman's eyes. (You can also spot them at the end of Vanilla Sky too)
Or they just forgot to edit it out...

killah kennayyy Not sure if you knew but Miles Morales came long after this. Then lighting makes it look black and red but the whole thing is primarily red. No correlation

But the way the trailer was shot, looked liked they were filming it like a typical robbery movie (from the early 2000's) and unexpecting ending with Spider-Man. Specifically tricking the audience who didn't know they were watching a trailer for Spider-Man.

20 years later it's good to see those towers again as you knew they and Spiderman were icons of New York city !!
Which is why even with the Sept 11 memorial and freedom tower, NYC is still devoid of what made it special and unique.

the DVD release had his lenses blacked out when he swings away, as a kid I had always wondered why they turned black.
+ANDREW HURST you can see the reflection of the WTC in his lenses during the first scene that you see his suit, in later releases, they blacked it out so you couldn't see it, and as a kid I always wondered why they looked like sunglasses for that one scene

I remember a trailer where it showed the helicopter between the world trade center when I went to go watch another movie over the summer at the movie theater. then everything happened on 9/11 and they got rid of it and in the movie too. rightfully so.
My teacher mentioned this during our discussion about 9/11 in class. I never knew they made a scene like this until now. It's really sad once you think about it

one of the things i noticed whilst rewatching the movie a few years ago is that the twin towers can still be seen in a picture on what i think is a newspaper or something in j. jonah’s office, it’s once of those you won’t notice when just casually watching but one you’ll notice if you’re looking for it.

I didn't mean that I wanted to see the clip in the movie even if people were against it. I meant that it would've been amazing if 9/11 never happened, resulting in this clip being OK for everyone to see, and the world overall having a different history. I hate 9/11 as much as everyone else because of the destruction and pain it caused so many people.
All I meant by my comment was that, I wish that 9/11 never happened, and that this clip could've gone past the editing stage. I didn't mean anything else. I hope I cleared up confusion, and that I didn't come off as super defensive. I was just explaining.

The producers were working on the movie probably a year or two before 2001 and they made that scene before the collapse so they didnt just start the movie in 2002 and finished the same year

I had purchased a magazine that contained a bonus DVD disc inside that featured movie trailers and in the list it had the WTC Spider-Man trailer. It's rare and probably impossible to find now but I have it in my collection

I'd say it definitely would have, because the film as is lacks a dramatic 'grand reveal' for Spidey.. He just looks at the sketch of the suit and then bam.. Straight to montage.
Still this scene needs to be put back into the movie. It has been 20 years after 9/11. The Twin towers will always be a part of the Big Apple skyline in my book. This scene when I first saw it in the trailer ...man I was soo hypes for the movie. Was disapointed that the decission was made to cut it from the released version..I understand that but its now 20+ years later. We have the right to get the version of the movie as it was orginally intended to be.
