    Can you shred on a 12-string? In this video we're going to find out. SKIP TO First I'll play my 5 FAVORITE 12-STRING SOLOS OF ALL TIME and then I will see just how fast I can play. Solos included by the Beatles, the Bryds, and the one and only Glen Campbell, master of the 12-string guitar.
    Rumor has it that if you play too fast, you can spontaneously combust. I hope that doesn't happen to me!

    Well done on the William Tell shred. Glen Campbell was an amazing musician and singer. I was lucky enough to visit his museum in Nashville last month, which is fantastic. Hey Mark. I really appreciate you taking the time to let me know that. About 22% of my viewers are over the age of 65 and almost 50% are over the age of 50. There's nothing more satisfying as a teacher than to motivate older players to pick it up for the first time, to pick it up again, or to be inspired to play more. I mean that very sincerely. I've had students in their late 60s tell me that the decision to pick up the guitar was one of the best they ever made. I had a 72 year old student tell me last week that although it took over 55 years, I finally demystified music theory for him. That was awesome. Please enjoy your Sunday and take care. Mark

      @@8MinuteAxe sadly it's the only electric 12 string I own. I only played different ones in a store. In my opinion it is very much worth the money. The bridge single coil is very thick sounding almost like a humbucker but it also has that single coil sound imo.
      The neck is pretty thin for a twelve string. Plays really good. I do own a Fender american original 60s six string strat and the neck is pretty close on both instruments. So not too thin but very comfortable. It also records very well. 4 weeks of pure joy so far.
      Quality wise it's right there with the squier classic vibe series.

      Thank you for taking the time to watch and support the channel and to comment. Do everything you can to make your practices count? They don't need to be long or grueling. Just keep moving the needle forward, try to catch yourself when you start noodling too much (we all do it) and always have a good warm up exercise. That way, if you end up getting distracted or if life gets in the way, you still got in 3 minutes of good practice (again, always moving forward!). I hope that helps a little. @8MinuteAxe Mark,I saw him back in the 70s I was real close to him about 3 feet away and although he was slightly hammered, I observed his playing on the 12 string extremely fast, he was sitting on a bar stool.His speed was unbelievable to say the least.

    Mark, that was pretty brave taking on a Glen Campbell instrumental, particularly on a 12! I don't recall precisely, but I may have seen him on his TV show doing Classical Gas on a 12-string, but that would have been a long time ago. BTW - just had my HB RB-612CS delivered the other day: it's purchase was based largely on your reviews and demonstrations. Just learned the intro to Hotel California (easier than I thought!) - I've been wanting to learn that and play it on an electric 12 for eons! (Since the album came out, actually....) You continue to inspire me!

    Closer to the heart plays the 12 string riff in the middle of the song...does that count??? Also I'm intrigued about the songs from Genesis that feature 12 string solos....

    • @8MinuteAxe
      @8MinuteAxe  10 месяцев назад +1

      Lots of Genesis stuff has 12-string work. All three guitarists used 12-strings (Mike, Anthony, and Steve). I've done Closer to the Heart in many videos. I'm a huge Rush fan. One of my very first videos was a tribute to Neil the day after he died. I was stunned. It's undoubtedly the most I've ever been affected by the death of somebody I didn't know personally. I would say it's restating the intro and not a solo. Also, there is a great solo in that one. But it's subjective. You can easily make an argument that it is. :). Mark

      I would agree with Mark on this one although the intro reprisal is kinda the end of the solo

I currently have a right handed 6 string and i play it with my left hand (upside down), because that’s the way I’ve always played guitar 😂. I’ve never played on a 12 string, but would absolutely LOVE to have one and learn!!! I love to challenge myself and grow as a musician. Thanks for providing this opportunity to win one!!! Now on to watch this video 2 more times 😂!

    I got a question for you. I'm in the market for a 12 string acoustic and have my eye on an Alvarez that has an LR Bragg preamp but no tuner. Do you consider the fact there's no built-in tuner a deal breaker on a 12 string acoustic?

    None of these are shredding. Satriani, Malmsteen, etc are ALL the definition of what shredding is. Just playing a solo is not what shredding is. Shredding is lightning fast and when many techniques are used.

      Common man, it's all good fun. FYI, if you're an Yngwie fan, he just released a new course on truefire. I agree with you that shredding is more a style than velocity, but it's not like I click baited. And you got see me explode...the things I do for youtube. Most important thing here is thanks for watching. I do appreciate your time and your comment. Take care and be well. Mark
