  • Amazon has been specifically targeting union supporters with disabilities and illnesses, firing them en masse. This is the story of Amazon labor co-founder Jordan Flowers, who needs dialysis and will require a kidney transplant. He was just fired by Amazon. Now he's lost his health insurance.

So Amazon is breaking the laws of the American Disabilities Act of 1964. I hope every Amazon warehouse unionizes and they get a contract soon.

Oh yeah no, Amazon loves disabled people, especially ones who don't request accommodations... lets please not forget that by hiring even a single person with a federally recognized disability they are then able to get up to a 9k tax break on their payroll taxes... on the payroll taxes that *AMAZON* pays, not the payroll taxes that an employee pays... I became a target the moment I requested an accommodation after having worked 4 12s and on my 5th 12 I had a seizure at my picking station because I didn't get enough sleep... a 12 hr shift lasts for 12 and a half hrs with the half hour unpaid lunch, 30 minutes home 30 minutes to work thats now 10 and a half hrs to sleep, I don't know about you but even after a 12 hr day my body in incredible pain from the constant physical stress of the job I can't just get my mind to turn off when I get him, so at least 30 minutes to finally get it to stop and then I need at least an hr before leaving for work to make sure I am up and my body is awake and ready for another 12 hrs of work... thats at best 9 hrs of sleep in immense pain in the middle of the day (since the 12s I worked were from 6:30 PM to 7 AM) I don't live alone either... so I was in no way getting enough rest in-between shifts and after the 4th day of no rest my body decided it was gonna do a hard reset... three times back to back I didn't regain consciousness in-between them and was out for a total of 30 minutes either having active convulsions or petit mal seizures... The 'medical' staff that the amazon location I worked at had were terrified out of their damned minds... Paramedics were concerned but my vitals were fine, I was coherent, and it was an established condition so they were fine with my decision to not take an ambulance ride to the hospital... Amazons 'medical' staff... not so much they actually called 911 back to have the paramedics return and said that the Paramedics *had* to take me... sorry went into the medical staff because they felt incompetent to me, and the paramedics all thought so as well... it always feels important to point out that Amazon works hard to not do anything properly and only do anything to cover their own asses legally.

Listening to the story about drug-tests makes me think of my situation, (and others who are in the same). Now, I do not work for Amazon, nor am I thinking about doing so. But as I have ADHD and am on Adderall, I wonder what would happen if I had to take such a test. They would find stimulants in my system. After all, Adderall *is* an amphetamine...

The best way for me as a "dude" to describe an employee relationship to the company is that it was like having a needy girlfriend who only cared about herself. She would text and email you constantly and even call you on a break soliciting the Alexa network as a solution to your personal website. Unless Amazon customers have actually worked as a "picker", they'll never believe the company's cruelty. I rarely talk about my disability but after working for these slave-drivers for a year, (nearly four years ago) I've sworn time and time again that I'll never work for anyone again. Ever. It was that bad. They won't even get a dime from me either. Mandatory overtime should be illegal and for someone with disabilities IS. Imagine having to be both so physically and mentally engaged in your work that you can't even fantasize about your free time. And that's just the start...

I had neck and back surgery to stop the paralyzing in my upper and lower body and I have A-Fib caused by blood clotting factors and Amtrak took my wheelchair away and refused to help me over two and a half days. I was also asualtted twice and threaten by Amtrak employees and on the trip back to Reno NV there wasn't any air-conditioning for 500 miles in July with temps in the 105° s I've been waiting since September of 2019 for the Nevada Equal rights commission to stop violating my rights to a fair and equal process. Knowing that onboarding is a great expense to any business. Why is it their plan is to churn headcount? That doesn’t seem like a profitable approach.
As far as the reasons people are bring let go. The reason giving was job abandonment. Based on his story. He most likely ran out of paid and unpaid leave and was no longer able to perform his job. As a business that needs jobs completed. They can’t provide unlimited pay for a job that’s not being done. As unfortunate as this is. What was the other option? As far as the person with drugs in their system. If the medical you take days it can make you drowsy and to not operate heavy machinery. But your job is to operate heavy machinery. If they haven’t sent you home they would be held liable for any accidents to yourself or a coworker. Again, this is unfortunate but what would you like them to do?
Just being angry at a company without grasping the whys behind these decisions. Helps no one to understand and make change.

He told them he wanted to return to work and that he just needed a bit more time... And as for medications... 95% of the meds I have ever taken for Any condition I've have had... Have had the may cause drowsiness sticker on them... If you told every worker doing a job where drowsiness would be a HUGE issue and that takes a medication that's says may cause drowsiness on the label and fired them on the spot... I couldn't pretty much guarantee you'd loose at least 70-85% of all trade workers... mechanics... any kind of laborers or equipment operators... Your statement here encompasses the woeful amount of ignorance people have about the experiences of others... it's sad really... and rather pathetic...

    • @par3me

@@hunnybadger442 you completely disregarded my argument and restated the complaint.
1.) Everyone has a specific amount of leave/sick time etc. When it runs out. It’s out. Unless you make special exceptions. With a corporation of this size. That’s not an. option. These types of things cannot continue indefinitely. If this wasn’t the case, he’d have a lawsuit. Knowing Amazon has better attorneys than this guy. I’m guessing they dotted their i’s and cross their t’s.
2.) Companies have insurance. Insurance companies have requirements. What if someone died while you’re working on a piece of equipment. You’re immediately drug tested. If you’re positive, you’re fired and the company can limit their liability with the death.
I get the perfect word argument. But what the left doesn’t get, is logistics. Even the best ideas need to function. The left is a group a adult children that never learned how things works. They point at a destination and demand it without ever thinking about what that process looks like. Then you’re angry to find yourself in a bad place, confused and angry with everyone else instead of yourself.
Let’s get our shit together kids.

@@par3me Here's perfectly logical and pragmatic argument... if you've paid into the federal disability benefits trust fund those taxes fund your disability payments...
If you're permanently disabled and the amount you had contributed in taxes is exeded by the amount in benefits received... Your benefits should stop... Because as you said insurance has limits... So You should just be left to die on the streets then... Because you cost more than you contribute... You're an unnecessary burden on a system designed to make profits... you don't generate a profit you serve no purpose... Logically, Fiscally, Economically, and Profit wise it tracks perfectly,...
