- By request, I put together everything I have on the QNSL. These scenes were taken on trips to the Cartier/Arnaud in 1991 and the Cartier/Wabush in 2000. On the video you can see the extreme weather changes that happen in this region in a matter of minutes. At the scene where the snow starts along the lake, the temp dropped so fast when the wind picked up that the tape tore in my camera. That is the only time that ever happened to me in 20 years of shooting with tape.
Very rare to see footage of QNS&L and its connecting lines. Even more uncommon to see anything from the 1991-2000 time period, as so much of what's floating around is fairly recent stuff.
As always, thanks for sharing this gem with the rest of us who couldn't see it personally.
It's been so long since I've seen a C40-8M without the air filters on it, that I forgot how flat they used to be in the back. Excellent video! As a guy in Illinois on the CN mainline (ex-IC), I can say it looks very Canadian in the winter time, but you forget how real Canadian railroading was until you see a video like this!
Note variety of passenger equipment. Coaches from CP and Southern, RDCs from Via Rail. Boxcar likely for supplies to remote areas. Auto rack car for vehicle consignment. Different from TRT's current service.
So that qnsl sd40 was rebuilt to an sd40-2
Good heavens, is there anywhere that you didn't get to back in the day? Awesome video as always!
Awesome footage
Great video, love the old footage you put together. I've noticed in your last couple of video that there are pixel glitches where you transition from one scene to another. Just wanted to let you know.
Yeah, that started about a month ago. I've tried using different file formats but it doesn't help. Not sure why its doing that, the original files are fine.
back in 1986 i rode my motorcycle up to sept isles. desolate country and really cool people.
Really enjoyed that from start to finish. Cool stuff and extremely cool in places. I was intrigued by the company logo as applied to everything. "Chemin de fer QNS&L". Can't help thinking those pesky French speaking pedants should either use QNS&L RR or Chemin de fer QCN&L. I think we need to be told.
thank very good video
Does QNS&L still have that passenger service or no?
Mitchell DeVillers It's run by the local First Nations tribes now. I believe they also own the railway north of the junction of the Labrador City branch (Ross Bay Jct) to Schefferville.
Now operated by Tshiuten Rail Transportation. Mostly with former Amtrak heritage cars and material handling cars but occasionally QNS&L cars are added.
