It's a pleasure to put these studio diaries together for you. In Part 1 we looked at finding the voice for my upcoming melodeath album, "Exilium", (Out Oct 11th). In this episode, we take a look at the reamping sessions and how we delved through an amp shootout for the ages to find the perfect guitar tone for the record! Credit to my buddy Chris Themelco of Monolith Studios for helping me find the holy grail tone!

Right on mate! I'm in a Death Metal band here in Chicago and one of my guitarist plays a Peavey XXX thru a XXX cab and the other plays a Bugera through a Carvin cab. 👈 this one sounds reeeealllly fockin' good believe it or not. 👽

Andy, what brought you to Australia? I am newer to the channel so I was curious.
My girlfriend looked outside and realised it had been raining for 20 years so dragged us to the other side of the world.
Didn't even try the Mark IV, just shaking my head in disbelief. My all-time favorite amp. I do kind of miss my 5150 though, which I never thought I'd be saying.
The one problem I have with the concept of reamping is that the performance is already there. In my opinion, different gear brings out different playing. I know it makes it so much harder to A/B test, but the sound and feeling in the moment is the deciding factor for me.
That perfect point you made is actually why the Mark IV didn’t get used (despite being my favorite amp). Andy usually uses a 5150 variant on his AXEFX as a scratch tone when tracking :) makes total sense we’d end up in that world.
The mark iv is 100% a “if you haven’t played through it… it’s gonna be tough to make work” amp
@@MonolithStudiosMelbourne Thanks for replying! I always wondered how that would work and if the performance could sound weird through certain amps (especially pinch harmonics).
@@thirteenthandy this is something that applies even more to Mesa amps. There’s something about how they react to playing that doesn’t play well with reamps unless you initially tracked through it or something like it :)

Man thats a collection! Funnily enough a friend of mine who`s been releasing albums (mainly black metal) since the 90s swears by his 6505+, BUT using the clean channel with a metal zone in front, says something about that pedal i guess
