Hey, can you also make videos related to starting a new job in industry, coming from academia? What kind of hurdles one has to face in first 3-6 months? Or some tips to adjust in industry environment, for a person coming from academia(for a person fresh out of phd, without postdoc experience)! Thanks for all the videos!
Thanks for the great videos! Just wanted to get your thoughts on contacting postdocs/students in a lab you are interested in before reaching out to the PI. If ok, any advice on how to approach them? Thanks!
Hey, quick question: I am interested in a postdoc position and to apply for it I need to use the university plataform. However I contacted the email they have for questions and asked who was the PI and I found out I know her! I have never taken classes with her, but I have been in seminars where she is in, in Journal clubs she is organizing. So I kinda know her, and let's say that if she passes by me she would say "hi" or smile. So, my question is: should I after apply for the position through the university website also send her a personal email? If yes, should I attach CV and CL again? Thanksssss
Strange question, but you say you did your postdoc at Harvard, but went to Joslin Diabetes Institute. I'm considering a position at the Broad Institute of Harvard and MIT, which is affiliated with both Harvard and MIT. Would this also count as a Harvard and/or MIT postdoc? The impression I'm getting is that Harvard is a big place, and all of the institutes count as Harvard, even if you're not necessarily in a Harvard department. I know this is not the best way to decide on a postdoc, but let's be honest, the Harvard/MIT brand definitely carries some weight and it's hard to ignore the ritzy name when deciding
It's really nice to hear your views, would like to listen more. If possible, please make continuation video of the same topic.
Thank you so much for this video, it’s really informative and helpful!
thanks for the great video. As (soon to be) a new postdoc, this kind of videos really help me a lot.
Please start similar series for industry culture. Thank you 😊

Which is better to join as a postdoc: A big lab (> 10 other post doc) OR a newly established lab?
Probably a bigger lab. Less one on one attention but the lab will have better funding and opportunity.
Could you make a video on how to handle student supervision as a postdoc?
Yes!
Thank you for the videos. Is it possible to switch the field from PhD to post doc? From plant biotechnology to cancer research?
Yes but you need to be able to demonstrate you have skills that will transfer and you can manage taking on a new field.

Yes you should and should include both. Always good to get directly to the person you want to work with.
I wish I had watch this 2 weeks ago 😅
