Highlight point: The interview is not a test but a conversation. Keep the conversation, and don't be afraid to make a mistake. Thanks, Maria :D I have an interview this afternoon. Hope it goes well. Thank you very much, and this video is really helpful for me.
I have two interviews next week. One at Max plank institute and one at Julich research institute. Both are in Germany and are leading research institutes in Europe and beyond. I find this video very helpful. Thank you very much. 🙏
Thank you. It is really an effecitve vidieo on preparation for PhD interviews. Finally the followins are main points which needs to be remembered: Be confident. Show your previous work. Relate your work with your upcoming research project. Show respect for interviewers. Know your interviewers. Read your statement of motivation before interivew. Be honest.
Just what I was looking for. I really can't describe how useful this video is. I have an interview next week at Max Planck institute. Hope it goes well.
So: calmness and the true appearance of how committed the person is to his research field and topic are key. You have to be calm, but enthusiastic about the subject! Did I understand correctly?
@@AhmedAJZaahir It did but alas, they needed me to be in the States and commence which I was unable to due my visa situation. Nonetheless, I got a nod from others wanting to work with me and I am currently putting forward my application. God is ever faithful whether he chooses to act. Ow in this situation or not. He is always right and I judge him perfectly. Thanks for asking.
I had my interview today. Went terribly! All these RUclips videos set me up for softball questions, like 'tell us a little about yourself' and 'what are your strengths and weaknesses?' I got technical questions that I was unprepared for.
@@MrDeguoGuizi I was in applied ethics, specially on a project about the ethics of automated vehicles. The questions where only about my technical proposal, and then things like 'what have you read or seen in the news lately about this subject that you have found interesting' and they wanted specific current examples. Also they asked, 'what do you think will be the biggest challenge in joining this research team?'. It was a paid position so perhaps they were a little more demanding.
Thank you so much for this amazing vid. I have an interview coming next week, and this vid has helped me a lot so far. do you think it's okay if I bring my research proposal and also look at it during my interview?
Its very good and beneficial for new comers. I also appeared before some time and the interviewer asked me about my future plan after completion of my PhD. What do you say about this, please?
I've now been offered a project I was excited for and now I'm having doubts. I've asked for a bit more time to decide, but I'm worried. Am I just nervous, or does feeling this way mean it's not what I really want?
The applicant review process used by your program is a bit weird. In our program students are admitted to the program. All students are guaranteed five years of support. Each admitted student is required to rotate between a minimum of two labs and then it is the student that selects a faculty mentor. Since the students are not supported why faculty grants they are free to develop their own projects. If my future advisor had asked me to read a paper in his area in 15 minutes and then respond to questions I would have failed. When I applied I was interested in animal behavior. However, I was fascinated by the work in a Drosophila genetics lab.

2. Keep in mind who you wish to work with and know their research well.

Can you perhaps elaborate on that? What field? And some examples of the questions that they asked? Thanks a lot!

With that mannerism, which interviewer has the guts to fail him/her/it
You are very Young
What an odd thing to say - did it tickle your paedo bone
U talked a lot in your interview 😂😂😂😂
ADVICE for Marco, don't overuse 'like' as a pause filler, it sounds, like, very basic, like, English
Admit it - his affected twang got to you - I admit it did me, leastways
Thank you
