The Golden era...such happy times and so proud to have been part of that magic time! and agree cars like the Grasshopper,Hornet,Brat,Frog, Fox,WO, BF, LB, Hotshot, Boomerang of course MB! So many more classic tamiya's to talk about but this group are the cars l remember most and raced at our Sunday race club from early 80s to late 80s then like most of us girls, parties and music took over in our lives lol....awesome times! How cool is it that we are having a 2nd bite of the cherry!😉👍 I almost forgot l got carried away in the moment and forgot to say your Monster Beetle looks Awesome!👍
Turned out amazing. Hope mine turns out like yours. I just finished building the 2015 re re. And I’ve been working on the body. Have it primed. Just need to sand it and paint.
Wow looks killer ! I found a white one today with the original box...cant wait to start the resto ! no decals though...where can i get the decals ? Yours looks awesome !
Looks great! I had one of these but not new/kit. Bought it second hand off of a school classmate for 60 pounds way back when (perhaps '91 or '92). Great fun but once the hex shafts inevitably failed I sold it on at a reduced price. Obviously, I wish Id kept it. Apart from the change from hex.to swing shafts the 2015 re-re seems a tad inferior to the original imo and not talking stickers. Anyway, nice vid!
Don’t forget the ever popular and classic Tamiya - Clod Buster, which single handily spawned multiple aftermarket part and accessory makers, more than any other RC monster truck car, buggy, etc. ( A personal favorite)
Greetings from Canada... finally subscribed (sorry 🇨🇦). I’m getting my wife into RC’s and she decided on Monster Beetle. Your iconic theory is true 🤟🏻😆. Building a track finally when the snow is gone on my property, after getting back into it the last few years, and am inspired by Harry’s track. Would love a birds eye view of the layout for ideas. Love the channel, and all the Tamiya, Kyosho nostalgia, maybe soon a Traxxas Sledgehammer for sh@$ts and giggles?? 👍🏻 Cheers 🍻 and keep up the good work!
First, thank you for subscribing. I really appreciate your support. Secondly, thanks for agreeing with my theory lol... Third, during our "Race Night Vids" you'll get a birds eye view...at some point.. One of our racers, Phil, has a vintage traxxas stadium truck so I'll be going a video on that, eventually. Your wife picked wisely... can't go wrong with a monster beetle. Please join our facebook group and post pics of your track. I'd love to see it once done. Thanks for the comment and support. Be well.
@@RCRetro I would love to see you still get the Black edition. How about the Black edition clodbuster? Are you going to get what used to be called the Baja champ or not not the Baja champ that other one that came from the seventies that's based on the sands scorcher but I think it has a longer wheelbase and it has a single mono shock in the back and are you going to get that one?
Tamiya fan here but I'm a bit different I'm 17 and i own a tt-02B and lunchbox re every time I saw a tamiya rc I always feel soo special something like lunchbox and sand scorcher and bruiser and cr-01 chassis the brat the mad bison all that my next car can be m-05ra or monster beetle ... Which one should I go????
Its up to you. Personally, I'm a fan of the ORV chassis and love the Monster Beetle as I believe it is one of the most Iconic RC's of all time. If you want something on-road/Rally then go with m-05ra but... If you want something that is bouncy, goofy, and looks really cool, then go with the Monster Beetle. I do like on-road though.. I guess I like everything lol... Good luck
Finally got one with the red body, and will be the last RC I will buy. Just too many RC out there that I want. The old Tamiya stuff I just too different not to have. The re release are good for old timer no so sure for youngsters coming into the hobby.
Glad to hear that you got one. Yeah I totally understand the "I got too many RC's". thing.... I say it everyday lol... Yeah I got my son a lunchbox and he was okay with it. Then I got him a traxxas rustler 4x4 and enjoys that much more. So I get it...
I always wanted a Midnight Pumpkin as a kid... but I think now that this is a better chassis than the Pumpkin or Lunchbox ... I'd like to have a couple Tamiyas of some sort...have never had one... just hard not to imagine that they'd use the nostalgia and imagery/livery of some of the older kits, to make new, more modern designs.... The ReRe kits are sure cool, especially for those who have a connection and may have owned one back in the day... but ifnthwre was a Lunchbox and Pumpkin with oil shocks, and a bit better suspension, I'd have to buy them... if they had a wild one with better steering , I would likely buy that too... etc... why not have gearboxes that are a bit updated, for handling brushless, like a 21.5 or 17.5 even...? Slipper clutch? Maybe that could all be incorporated into modern Mk2 kits or something...maybe even some different plastic blends for a few parts for durability? I'd love at least a few Tamiya kits, for now the monster beetle, or TT-02 of some sort might be where I start... but I am really drawn to the Kyosho Ultima and Turbo Optima kits, sure they cost more but they are nicely redone with some modern touches while maintaining the retro vibe as well... and I want something that can be driven and enjoyed. Coming from modern AE and Tekno racers, and Axial crawlers... it is hard to imagine shocks without oil damping at all... so I have a real hard time considering buying a kit without oil shocks, bearings, etc... Which Tamiya kits that are available do you think might be a good fit for me besides maybe this one? Cheers
There can be so many things wrong.. hard to pinpoint just from "not working." Is it an original Monster Beetle or a rerelease? When you plug in a charged battery, does the electronics light up or turn on?
Between the Tamiya Beetles, I personally like the Blitzer more. IMHO, it is a better design. But still, that is a extremely nice example. And while I think many Tamiyas (and others) are true classics, I don't know about being iconic. An RC10, thats a icon. Just saying.

Thanks for the compliment. Yup I agree.. I was all about RC cars and nintendo. Then came girls and all that stuff was a distant memory lol..
@@RCRetro lol yeah l have many happy memories of some early sweethearts for sure!! Don't tell the wife😉
I think like 80% of tamiyas were iconic. But I never knew anyone who owned a monster beetle.
Looks awesome all finished. I found the painting/sticker part of the video quite therapeutic. Great video, Ari! 👍
thank you. Well this is therapy for me lol....glad you enjoyed it.
What a cool MB. What a find and a cool backstory!
Thanks for the comment. Glad you enjoyed it and were actually listening and not skipping through the video. Thank you again.
Awesome! Looks great!
You've done a lovely job with that body Ari,it's turned out great.
Thank you for the compliment.
Beautiful work, Sir

Nice MB Ari! Yes, Sand Scorcher body mold. Holes are for the bracket which attach to safety cage.
Looks awesome. I had an original as well as a Subaru Brat. Those were my first two RC cars and the third was an amazing RC10 in the 1980's.
Looks perfect , mint👊🏻👍🏻
I got the rerelease monster beetle for Christmas. And love it

I would probably rate the Blackfoot since it was first, more iconic than the Monster Beetle. Plus I had one so I’m biased 😂
you are entitled to your bias opinion lol....thanks for the comment
i know since i was kid... my father had it, always was a bit jealous xD
and im 39 ... damn ....
i had a Tyco Turbo Hopper as kid
Ever thought of getting the Black and Gold edition of this car? Did you race it last summer?
Nope but I have something in the works for my Blackfoot... Stay Tuned.

Winner, Winner, Chicken dinner! No Mayo though....
The previous owner could have assembled a regular model kit for cheaper and displayed it!
You should have left it White as the first ones were white
Porsche 959 4x4 1/12...
it was never white...just red
