seems our cat has inprinted on my kid mostly but some on me, is that normal? since he does most of the things to her does that mean he has just imprinted on her?
Our 2 cats do almost all these things, except no hunting gifts since they are indoors. But one of them often wags her tail and that worries me, is this ALWAYS a sign of stress/something negative or does it exist cats with happy wagging tails….?
I adopted a 2 year old cat from a coworker whose husband didn’t treat the cat well. She was SO fearful that she hid under my bed and stayed there. Every evening I laid on the floor beside the bed. I brought food & water to her and talked to her there for hours every day. After 2 weeks she surprised me by coming out from under the bed and laying with me. She never hid again. We were completely bonded. She also wanted absolutely nothing to go with ANYONE else. Eventually she got comfortable with my young daughter, but no one else. She lived to be 19 years old and passed about 10 years ago. I still miss her. Her name was Sydney.
I'm so sorry Sydney is no longer with you. You definitely gave her the great life she deserved, fully of safety and love ❤️. You're a great catmom! It's a slightly different situation, but my two boys were everyone's friends as kittens, feeling so safe with me and assuming every hooman must be awesome. When they were +/- 1yo I had workers in the house and one or more did something to one or both, because after that my cats suddenly became extremely fearful of strangers, especially of men. Just the ring of the doorbell had them panicking. If someone entered they ran away and hid. My heart broke for them! It took me a very long time to get them accustomed to the idea of strangers and particularly to interact with strangers again, but luckily it worked at one point. With my slightly younger boy it took over a year and I even had to reconnect our bond a bit. I think he blamed me or associated me with what had happened. Nowadays he does all mentioned 10 points again, but especially the cuddle bit took over a year to reappear! As to the strangers, I gave very strict rules to people in my house - don't suddenly touch them, leave them be if they're obviously agitated/fearful (explained body language), introduce yourself with one crooked finger and go from there etc etc. With those that responded well to my cats and vice versa I took it one step further and tried to let them help me in linking strangers in my home to good things like play and treats. I saw little differences over time, until they were obviously relaxed and feeling safe again. They'll never again be the super open buddies of before, but perhaps that's good in a way. They've learnt there can be bad humans (and I've become more careful as well, keeping them with me or at least checking on interactions). They always wait a while now to 'taste' the energy in the room, see how I interact with those strangers and then come and say hi or even ask for petting. They really like some family and friends, or even medical professionals who come to me - f.e. my edema therapist is a big hit with both and they'll easily lie next to her while she's doing the treatment, letting her touch them too - but they've learnt when it's better to stay in their trees or in my bedroom for example. Cats can learn to trust again, but the bigger the abuse, the smaller the circle of new trustees. Animal abuse is revolting and I hope that one day punishment for it will be much harsher than it is nowadays (including psychological help, because there must be sth wrong with or broken in someone if they hurt innocent, small souls).
Our 10 month old cat bonded with our newborn daughter. The cat started by laying next to the baby in the crib and on the the jungle gym. The cat slept with our daughter her entire life. She sat with her when our daughter was older and worked on homework after school. The cat even gave her love bites from time to time and "groomed" her. The cat mourned when our daughter went away to college . She stopped eating. It was sad to watch. The cat lived for 21 years. The bond they had was special.
We have a stray who just decided one day that she was ours. Immediately strolled up on our porch for pets, purring away, and started giving gifts. She's now 90% an inside cat, who makes biscuits on us, who guards us while we use the bathroom, and loves to be held like a baby. It feels so special to have been chosen by a cat.

My indoor cat brings me dish towels from our kitchen every single night. He drops them in the hallway just outside of my bedroom door and I praise him each time. I cannot even begin to imagine how many birds, mice and other tiny creatures we have spared by keeping him indoors, but I am so glad that he found a positive way to utilize his wonderful hunting skills! It's nice knowing that we are safe from the evil dish towels because of our loyal hunter.

Two of my cats do this to both my wife and I and also our son...the other one is a bit of a loner and never really broke out of being feral...Shes a sweet kitty but shes off hiding in the rafters most of the time....At least she's up high like a cat should be and not hiding under the bed or something, She sometimes visits when we're using the restroom...Odd, We don't bug them when they are trying to poopy!
From a shelter, I adopted a Siamese-mix 8 year old girl who seemed visibly depressed from missing her longtime family who had surrendered her for lack of funds. Turned out that she wanted a mutually loving relationship, and as a lone senior whose previous old cat had just died, I wanted the same. She invented the welcome home ritual that we perform every time I come through the door. She sleeps with me and because she's treated with love every minute of the day, she's very secure and bonded to me. At over age 13, she's still frisky, silly and meows only to demand play time. We're so lucky to have found each other!
I have a young child with ASD and she loves our cat. But she is often also unsure of if the cat likes her, is mad at her, etc. Reassurance only very occasionally works to calm her concerns. We watched your video together and she was able to identify all ten behaviors on her own, smiling bigger at each one. This is such a wonderful tool. Thank you so much!
I was the same as a kid, now after the years of learning what animals' different body language means as an adult I worry about it a lot less different materials to help understand their body languages and what it means like these videos, books, etc go a long way
I'm glad to see that you understand your child's struggles. I'm also on the spectrum, when I was little, I was confused by cats behaviour. How different they are compared to most dogs. It took me into my 20s to truly understand the feline species, and in doing so, I've grown a deep appreciation for their unique personalities and now own my very own bombay! We idolize each other, he is my best friend.
Oo I love that, a bit of a reading tip, there's a book specificly aimed at childern with ASD that's called: All cats have autism. I love the book so much (I have ASD, but am a female adult). It's super cute and an easy way to showcase some symptomes of ASD.
My cat was born and lived her first six years in a shelter in the "quiet" room for fearful kitties. Her tail was always down. After a year of me walking slow and talking soft, that tail is up, she comes to her name and is starting to lay against me. She's still spooky, but getting better.
@@M_SC It's very rewarding, isn't it? I'm working on that with a cat right now. He spent 7 years in a closet! Not sure why, but he's very fearful. He loves being groomed and massaged, so will now come to me for grooming - only if I'm on the floor, or sometimes sitting. He's still afraid of motion over his head. He also panics if I try to pick him up when I'm standing. But he's come a long way in 9 months, especially for an older cat.
So how many people found themselves smiling watching this? I realized I had a big smile on my face as the video went on along and I figured out how wonderfully imprinted my cats are to me. I’d say the feeling is mutual!❤️
For those hesitant to get an older cat in fear that it’s too late to imprint, it can be done!! I adopted a beautiful 9yr old black cat years ago and she very quickly imprinted and bonded to me. I had her 9 years after adoption (she passed last year at 18). I Met and moved in with my husband 4 years ago and she spent those 4 years letting him know I was hers 😂 she always slept on my face/neck and would follow me everywhere waiting for me to sit down so she could get on me somehow. That cat was a part of my soul I will never get back. Hug your kitties and appreciate every cuddle. ❤
My kitty was 17/18 when we got her last year and she bonded with me within 3 days of having her. A year later and me and my bf are the only ones that can touch her. Our 4 kids can't get near her without a hiss and a bat. 😅 She always disliked children apparently and belonged to an elderly woman who passed away.
I'm hoping once I move to a larger home to adopt a senior cat into our family because they're so sweet and my heart breaks seeing them not get adopted 💔
Sorry to hear about your cat. I lots my Heidi of 20 years this past week and I cried more for her then any human I lost. You are totally right about them being a part of your soul that's gone.
We got Penny from animal control as an adult- they guessed she was maybe 2 or 3 and she was horribly matted. She was so fearful that she hid in the basement for months- only coming up after my husband and son went to bed. I'd stay up late to spend some proximity time with her. It's been 5 years now and she's a sassy, bossy, cranky, beautiful member of our family. She is particularly obsessed with my husband, lol! She head butts so hard and purrs like a rusty chainsaw.
Found a stray kitten while at work. Vet felt she was 4-5 weeks old at the time. I brought her home and my wife and I cared for her and brought her back to full health. I had absolutely no previous experience with cats. Fast forward year and a half later and I am officially a “cat dad”. She meets me at the door after work and curls up on my every night prior to bed. Way more affectionate then I had ever believed a cat to be and I find myself borderline spoiling her. Definitely the best decision to rescue her as I would likely have never owned a cat let alone get to full on “cat Dad” status.

In 2010 my mother died suddenly. And days later I walked by a beautiful cat in a pet store window who looked as sad as I felt. I went in and discovered that Lilly had been adopted and was dropped back and she was depressed. I said that I would take her and never let her go. She was so pretty, good manners, affectionate--VERY SMART--and she wasn't shy about what she wanted. Over nearly 14 years together--and she still looked beautiful and still very bossy. And then she was gone. I'm still praying she'll be back. I've never been a crybaby--until now.
So sorry to read that, Suzette. You probably know, though, that over 14 years is getting old for a cat; and when they get older are more likely to get sick, like with kidney disease., which is very common in older cats. And when cats are sick they tend to hide. I hope you find her alright, though.
Yess my cat has different meows for different situations as if he is saying English words 🥰 if I say "state your concern cat!" He will literally start to "talk" non stop for minutes 😂
My cat meows at me, I ask her, “how may I be of assistance?” Then she runs off to her food bowl or whichever place is relevant to her request, knowing I’m following at the rear. They are funny! ‘State your concern, cat’ did make me laugh though! 👌
I got a free ranch cat, and the owner said good luck because she’s psycho! Once she got away from the teens, dogs, cows, etc she must’ve felt better. I’ve never had such a loving, intelligent, trainable cat in my life! She’s even super friendly with strangers, deer and dogs (until they chase her). She went from being a free castaway to absolutely priceless
I had a similar experience with one of my babies. I was living in a house that had a mouse problem. I told the landlord and he said, "so get a cat!" So I took to the internet to find a good mouser. The add said, "Free cat. Cute but Psycho!" I responded and asked if she was a good mouser. I was told she was. I was also told she hated kids and men so if I take her, keep her away from the kids. I thought, fair enough. I told my kids that the cat I was picking up wasn't fond of children and to not be surprised if she didn't warm up to them right away. I picked her up and brought her home. The kids sat in a circle on the floor, with ample room between them so she didn't feel trapped. I opened the carrier and she beelined it straight to each of the kids and started rubbing all over them and accepting scritches and loves. She didn't even get a "proper" name. Everyone just called her Baby and she answered to it.
@@JennicaDuncan Both the original comment and yours just proves that sometimes it's not that the cat is bad it's that the people didn't know how to be with cats. When I volunteered at the local humane society visiting cats to socialize them, I was told I was a natural with the cats because I immediately knew how to get to their level and let them come to me. This was of course because I had grown up with cats, I don't think there has been a time in my life when we haven't had one or more cats.
Yesss! Same happened with my niece's cats. They were severely neglected and my MIL told me that they behave very bad. I was with them for one week. Took them to the vet for a full check up and even spayed one. My MIL was shocked at how peaceful they were with me. Cats really are all about the environment they are in and they respond accordingly.
I actually felt very loved after this video. They're far more expressive than people give them credit for. They also get more comfortable and loving with time if you're being patient with them and treating them right. We adopted a 3.5 year old cat five years ago and we still find her mellowing and wanting more love and affection and security over time or learning to communicate or wanting to be part of things.
Well, I think my cat is a very outgoing cat, he's geting closer and more confident every day, he shows practically every inprinting atitude you mentioned . He's so funny when he gets nervous or mad , and that happens when I'm out for a long period of time , he throws blows at me as if he's scolding me !!! 😅
What can I say... except that I feel deeply for you. I had the same experience many years ago. All we can do is show extra love to the next ones we care for.

It's been a year and a half since I lost my cat who was my childhood best friend. I haven't been able to look at any pictures/videos of him because it hurt too much. But this video made me go and do it, and I'm glad I did. I'm crying my eyes out but I needed this. We had this little game when I stared at him across the room and he meowed at me, I then hid behind the door and when I stopped hiding, he meowed at me again. We could do it for like ten minutes straight haha. He was very introverted, but he really loved me and my mom. I miss him so much, 17 years were not enough.
Years ago there was a stray I tried to take in. I let him shelter in my shop and left food for him. He would never allow me to get close enough to touch him but from time to time he left me presents on the doormat inside the shop. I felt so bad for him that someone had hurt him too much for him to trust a human again but it was wonderful to see these signs that he appreciated sharing the space with me.
Poor thing but it sounds like he found the absolute best situation for him. For a former feral he had the freedom to come & go. But he also knew he had a safe space there with you. Some organizations will actually re-home ferals that don't tame down. With farmers as barn cats or in New York they were rehoming them with places that have large docks for the trucks in the back. Not so much to hunt mice/rats but to just get the place smelling like cat so the rodents don't want to come there. Don't feel too bad though. There's a tortoiseshell that likes to hang around my porch & my neighbors because we'll give her food. She'll actually follow me to my door if she wants food. But I've never gotten to pet her. Although I think my neighbor has.
A stray cat has started to sleep on my porch a year ago. Not sure how old he is.pretty big size. I feed him and when I open the door to feed him he is sitting there waiting for me. But he will not let me touch him or even purr.sometimes he will come on porch while I am sitting and lay down.not sure if he will ever bond with me
In November i had found a starved kitten in a bush. She was completely ferral, and didnt let me near her for 3 days until she finally did. Since she was only 11 weeks old. Seeing she does everything on this list nearly made me cry. I love my girl 🥰
My Beau was found in the median of a very busy 6 lane highway. My son heard his cries from a parking lot. When he walked into the median, kitty ran to his feet crying. He was about 6 weeks old. I can't help but wonder if he had been thrown from a moving car 😢. I picked him up very quickly after this and he's been my little man ever since. He has definitely imprinted on me and I love him dearly. I just wish his "love bites" were a little softer. 😂. He will be 3 next month.
I raised a kitten from 4wks to 16yrs. He went with me everywhere; vacations, long car rides, hotels, ever changing homes …Starbucks! Purrs, trilling, biscuits. When I lost him to diabetes, I chose my next cat by how he presented his tail (high). 6yrs strong and have never regretted my choice…or him choosing me 😃
@@nicooliver6019 I know this isn't the answer you were looking for but a long, long time ago (back when I was in primary school) we had a cat that we had to put down suddenly after finding them almost lifeless on the back mat. It happened all of a sudden. The vet explained they'd suffered serious kidney problems because we pretty much only fed dry food at the time. My mum grew up in Italy during WWII and they didn't have cat food so she just looked at the price, thinking that something labelled "cat food" has to be right for cats. I never forgot that cat, so now I'm in charge of buying my cat's food I feed very little dry food, and one that's a better quality - the bulk or all of every meal is wet food. I can't afford really expensive stuff but I try and read the label and get the best I can afford rather than just looking at the price ☺️
@@loretta_3843 honesty I am hearing this more and more that dry food can get cause health issues done the line like diabetes and urinary/kidney issues as it’s high in carbs and dehydrating. I think people need to more educated and made aware that just because something is marketed as cat food it’s not all appropriate or healthy to feed our cats

I was adopted by force by a very standoffish community cat, about a year ago. She stalked me for a while (watched me feed birds & squirrels) then one day came right up to me, trilled & head bomped me! Some neighbors were concerned, since they hadn't seen her around, but my mom told them it's ok, she moved in with me & even sleeps on my lap & in bed. I'd say she easily has about 9/10 score so far. BTW: She's easily the bossiest & most intelligent cat I've ever had! 😻 p.s. I subbed, too~
I to was adopted this way. Except she sacred the other cats away when I came out with food. She also meowed loudly at night to be let inside. Now she's mostly just an indoor cat. Lmao
We recently rescued a stray five week old kitten. Female. She’s now 13 weeks old and constantly follows me, sleeps on my pillow, licks my face, and sticks her nose in my ear and sniffs… But, she also bites! Usually easy at first then a bit rough. We usually blow into her face to discourage this behavior. Worked at first, now she is reluctant to stop. She will bite my nose and chin while I sleep. Any recommendations? As a LVT at the AMC in Manhattan I thought I knew all the answers, LOL!
My rescue cat Bella does what we call "floppy stretchy rollies" over and over down the hall as a "welcome home" as we enter the house from the garage. She stretches out, flops over and rolls on her back from side to side, then gets up and does it again and again, farther into the house as she goes. It's so adorable!
My cats always greet me at the door when I come home. My ex husband confirmed they'd always get up and walk to the door a minute before I unlocked the door - we were living in an apartment. On the second floor. They always recognized my steps outside the building (!), knew it meant I was going to be arriving in a moment, and came to say hello. To this day it makes me feel so loved and leaves me in awe at their sense of hearing!
That's how my cat is, he learned the sound of my car and will get up, from a dead sleep, once Im on the street and go to the window looking out to the driveway and wait for me then run to the door when Im at the door. He also starts meowing as loud as he possibly can and I can hear him usually lol
Our cats can always tell when it's my husband home from work & not our housemate. They get very excited, jump onto the corner of the bed to greet him (he comes in through our bedroom) and love saying hi to Daddy! 💖
Eons ago when I went off to college I was homesick and would come home Friday afternoons and drive back Sunday evening. My mom noticed that one of our cats would always hang out on my bed at around 3 PM on Fridays. I laughed it off, but the next time I came home, my kitty (actually was supposed to be my dad's cat) was waiting.
Same here, I have a security camera. As soon as the car is pulling in the driveway they go to the entry area. They know its exact audio signature. I have seen it too many times to count. My former cat knew the smell of the Forrest around the cabin. He would always wake up and meow 1 1/4 miles away. Nothing changed with the car for another 1/2 mile but he knew we were near. The trip time was never the same a the lighting was different each trip as well but he would always react at the same approximate point.
My cat has definitely done all of these things with me. She showed up on my porch doorstep one day and was visibly hungry. She instantly let me pet her and I fed her. I found out she was microchipped and that the previous owners had intentionally abandoned her.. when winter came, I started letting her sleep inside, to stay warm.. she went from only letting me pet her for a very short time and then walking away, to sleeping on my chest at night and curling up beside me on my bed and meeting me at the door when I get home. She’s very sweet and loving and I’m grateful she showed up at my door. She hopped up on my lap after I finished typing this.
I am a "cat whisperer." I work with clients to help correct problem cat behaviors, and I thank you for everything you said above. Jackson Galaxy is right -- too many people see cats through dog-colored glasses. I have also notice that fulltime indoor cats (my own, and others) bring a favorite toy to their human, or leave it on their human's bed. This is the indoor equivalent of a mouse, mole or lizard for an inside-outside cat. Also, if you have an inside-outside cat, and you scold them for bringing small prey, they often come back with a BIGGER small creature, because the first gift didn't please you. I tell my clients that although it goes against human logic, to PRAISE Kitty when she brings home a mouse, then discard it in an OUTSIDE trash can when the cat isn't looking. She will bring home fewer gifts that way. I have known cats (my own, friends' and clients') who have a vocabulary unique to their humans. A dear tuxedo of ours, Shamu, used to request "wa-uh" if other cats had been drinking from his preferred bowl (make it fresh, Mama!). He greeted us at the door with "EH-oh" because we always said "hello" to him when we came in. He had a large vocabulary including "no" and about a dozen other non-human word sounds that had very specific meanings. I have found that if I consistently say hello when I see a cat, "water" when I present fresh water, etc. that cats often try to mimic those sounds.
the present's are not for you they bring home prey for kittens to practice on (even if they dont have kittens) it's how they learn to hunt some cat whisperer you are for not understanding that
You must have a good ear. I too would repeat the same words like water, treat, outside, massage (petting), hello but all the meows sound the same to me. One cat was quite talkative and quirky. But his different meows were hard for me to understand. Also, he didn't raise his butt or put his tail upright. He would slowly wag it back and forth. Not sure why this hasn't been noticed in some cats (it's different from a tail swish).
Years ago, I had a Siamese cat who would pin down my hand,palm up, give me a look as if a mom saying,"now just hold still!" then he'd thoroughly groom the inside of my wrist. His look of satisfaction when done was priceless😸🦋
I had a Heinze 57 that would hop into bed to wake me up. She'd grab my head with her front paws & proceed to groom my bangs. We were not finished until she decided that we were finished. I'd get up & put out the cat food.(For her & 3 others). Then I'd go blow dry my cat spit bangs.
My cat doesn’t like sitting in my lap for long periods but she will walk over to my bed to sleep beside my legs, grooms me from time to time and slow blinks at me. That’s enough for me to understand that she is happy and loves me ❤
3 weeks ago I adopted a timid little girl who had been DUMPED at the ARL. It was so obvious that she hadn't gotten any attention. She hid out under the bed but has come out to lay beside me. She's currently giving herself a spa treatment as I type this. It's going to take time but I think we'll get there. She's come a long way already... Love you, Bundle...❤
A stray kitten adopted our family, we were moving and she was amazing! After a few months she explored and got lost, the kids were worried when she didn't come in. The next day I saw her in the alley, she was so scared, when she saw me she came running meowing with excitement. She was my shadow for the rest of the day, now she doesn't wander! So awesome she chose us and wants to stay close to us! Love our new family member 😸
My black cat is my ride or die. He's joined at my hip and is my bestie. I'm very blessed to have been chosen by him 🥰Not only does he stare like you said, he'll go nose to nose and just stay there while purring, and sometimes I even get get eskimo kisses. He's an old timer now, and there will never be another one like him ever. Whatever it is that goes beyond imprinted is pretty much what we have lol
I had that with my boy Smokey. I used to joke that I should change his name to Velcro because he was always stuck to me. My cat loving friends and I call this a soul-cat relationship. Their love is unconditional and freely given at all times. It's a very special relationship and you are so lucky to have been chosen. Cherish this relationship always ❤
My husband I recently got a black cat as well as an orange cat. I thought the tabby was crazy. He’s even more crazy. I take it they get sweeter as they get older? 😆
I adopted a 1 & 1/2yr old black Mama cat from our local rescue & named her Olive. She runs to the door when I come home from work, is harness trained, & sleeps with me every night. Extremely affectionate & playful, I truly hit the jackpot with my micropanther. 🖤🖤🖤
I had one like yours. He was 11 when he crossed the rainbow bridge. I have rescue girl now and she's such a scardy cat, but working on that. But sure miss my boy... I'm glad you've got your baby.
I have a stray kitty that lived outside and I fed for almost three years. I built her an insulated and heated house for the winter and fed her all of the food, but she refused to come inside. One late night during a blizzard and arctic blast she finally raised her surrender flag. She has been indoors living a very lavish life ever since. I am not allowed to touch her because she is still feral but she is always near me and rubs eagerly on any surface to show her love. Makes my heart melt.
That is so increibly kind and generous of you. Not enough people would provide a feral cat with a home and love, while still respecting her boundaries, and not demanding anything in return. She is so lucky to have you! 😇😻
We adopted a starving pregnant feral female cat. It took four years of care before she would let me pet her. I bought her a heated cat house for winter time. She would never come in the house though and also freaked out if I tried. She would let me carry her around the yard but only outside. She was with us for 12 years. We did our best to care for her. We found homes for her kittens and got her spayed and vaccines. Once she was losing weight and I had to trap her to get her to the vet. Sure enough she had a cracked infected tooth.

Cats have so many unique ways of expressing affection to their people. I’ve never had the furry friendship bracelet, but I had one that would always put one forepaw on my leg or shoulder whenever he sat or curled up next to me, and one that would always break into a run when he walked into a room and saw me, as if he couldn’t wait to get to me. The male half of my current pair likes to grab my head with a paw and pull me in for a headbutt. His sister likes to make biscuits on me, or next to me while purring and looking me in the eye. I don’t know how to describe how it’s different from regular staring, but direct eye contact is her love language. 🥰
I’ve always let kittens chose me and couldn’t have asked for anything better. I only wish they could have longer lives cause letting them go is so hard 🐈❣️

I’ve had cats for 54 years. Many, many rescues. I’ve had all the behaviors you mentioned from all of these cats. I adore cats! My husband and I now have only one left as we sadly buried the 2 oldest ones (17 and 17 1/2 years old), in the last 6 months. The one left is about 5 years old. I think he misses the last 2 cats. He is ALWAYS near or on one of us, then with the other. It’s even more so since we got an electric blanket! 🤣. I enjoyed your video very much!
Awww, so sorry for your loss and thank you for giving all those kitties a wonderful and loving home. And yes, I don't have an electric blanket, but I do have a heating pad that I use from time to time and my little girl kitty loves it!
I am sorry for your loss. My orange shadow misses his brother who got sick and passed away in June. A new kitten walked up to our gate at 11 PM and now he is acting like dad to the kitten. I am guessing the kitten has helped.
54 years now that's inspiring. I have three cats and they're my first. I really fear the day one of them passes on. I worry that I'll be so heart broken that I won't want pets after they go, but I love cats so much. Does it ever get any easier?
My cat, Aro, has healed so much of my heart. He is a tuxedo cat, and is so smart and I'm certain his meows sometimes sound like hes saying "mom" 😂 He is so loving and affectionate that it brings me to tears at times ❤️ And edit: he lets me do all these things on the list, yay!
Yes, tuxedo cats are wonderful!!! I have two male tuxedo litter mates; they talk to me all the time; I call them "the squeaker" and "the singer," because that's how they sound. They are 16 years old, and have brought me so much love and humor.

My older boy will force his way into my lap while I'm on the toilet lmao he also brings me my dirty socks from the laundry bin. Sadly, he started getting kitty dementia he wakes up yowling like he doesn't know where he is I can call him and he will hunt me down for the snuggles and go back to sleep. I dread the day I lose him, hes been my big baby for 14 yrs.
I've had a new kitty just over a month and she has begun to bring me my phone charger. Lol!! I wonder if it's because she seems be going for it quite a bit.

Panther came from an insecure past to me thru a foster program at 6 months old. When I met her, she only watched me carefully, until I laid on my back on the floor. The foster mom had never seen a person get literally on the cat level. She approached me cautiously. Thats how it went for another month in my home. Me approaching her in calm manners low down and letting her decide what we would do. Now she is a rather exuberant in her love. I often wake with her flopped across me. Panther is almost 1 1/2 years old now, and she does all of it, except let me pack her around. Her presents are household items. She may have needed me, but turns out I needed her more.
Hmm, i have always got on the floor a lot interacting with cats ever since, i can remember. Just seemed the natural thing to do to me. Never thought much about it.
My cat was abandoned in the dead of winter and I have now had her about 8 years. She has done everything on your list. When she was dropped off to my house it took her all of 10 minutes to know she was home, I have never seen a cat get so comfortable SO quickly. She is the sweetest cat I have ever had...she is no doubt a mama's girl.
Precisely! I am imprinted by my seven cats, especially my precious 25 year old Zilda, who is doing so well, and is treated with the utmost care and love. Besides, I think my 5 dogs are imprinted by the cats too, for they all get along so well. All of which were rescued in dire conditions, and all are cared for with the most complete love and dedication!
I adopted my cat when he was 18 months old. He wasn't super close at first but now he does kneading, head butts, kisses, cuddling in my lap, sleeping on me, he talks, and is just a big sweetheart. He's always excited to see me and won't leave me alone for at least 10 minutes after I come in. He crawls all over me and practically makes me hold him. He gives hugs too. He's 10 now. He's come a long way. He's a very good boy.
We are lucky, our cat has bonded with both my husband and I! She does half of behaviours with him (chirping and chatty with him, jumps on the counter to be near him, curls up next to him at night) and the other half with me (Long slow blinks, grooms my hand, runs to greet me when I come in the door). Is that unusual? Has anyone else Experienced that?
This is awesome. Thank for this video. I’ve never been one for cats as pets, always a dog person. But a little stray gorgeous short haired black female around 7 or 8 weeks with a small white button spot on her chest (eyes were still very dark in color and lasted about week) strayed in the outer skirts of the yard (I live in the country) at night of all timings, cold, wet, hungry, very scared and meowing intensely at a distance, though. It took me 3 weeks at a very slow pace with her because I knew she had been abused by seeing a big healing soar on her forehead and she finally let me touch her. It’s been history every since with her watchful eye on my dog, her buddy, my little Bean, and I’ve been her Momma and he’s been her best friend every since. But of course, he’s a little jealous because he’s been my baby for 5 years. She has displayed all ten behaviors with me including letting me rub her belly and let’s me rub her feet and she will strike up a cat conversation with me by soft meowing and We start meowing at each other…I don’t know what I’m saying to her but it’s gentle meows back and forth and she understands it’s a healthy loving conversation then we head rub each other afterwards and she lets me kiss her on her nose. I’m not sure exactly what that means or represents in the cat world but I feel the love between us. Even though I try to read any piece of literature I find but it does really answer questions. There are things I don’t understand so I’m still learning and kind of figuring it out as we grow together. It’s funny, I tried naming her several different names and she would just ignore me except when I called Ms. Kitty, she’d come running. So in essence, she chose her own preferred name. And it’s been Ms. Kitty every since. She’s now going on about 10 months old and a very loving laid back baby girl and spoiled rotten like her big brother, My Little Bean. ❤️

My recently deceased cat (which was my first) showed all these signs. This video had me crying cause it made me realize again how we connected and how much I miss him.
My kitty was found by a dumpster in winter, trying to scratch up garbage to eat. She was barely 4 months old. I adopted her at 6 months. She was horribly headshy-as if she'd been struck. It took years of gentle handling, but now, she puts her head in my hand wanting attention and neck scratching! ❤️ 🐱
The best part of my day is when I come home and go to sit on the sofa once all my stuff is put away. My cat is launch herself at me to sit in my lap. It always makes me smile.
Crying here because I lost my baby a month ago after 11.5 years. She did 1-9 frequently except bringing me presents because she was an indoor cat. She would RUN towards me when I got home. I would pick her up and cradle her in my arms and she would lick my hands like crazy while "air kneading" which is kneading, but straight up in the air ..while licking. It was so cute. She did one thing not mentioned here, which was love bites or nibbles. When I was holding her, she would come up and gently bite my chin. It was adorable. She would cuddle up to me in bed and sleep, sometimes most of the night. I miss that cat SO much. I know I'll need to get another one, but I'm afraid that no cat will ever measure up. P.S. Forgot one. She would sit by me whenever I was on the toilet (yup) and stare at me, wide-eyed for a long time. I'm 60 and I've been fascinated by cats my entire life. They are so unique.

I understand if you don’t want to though. It’s just that when you are an animal person, there will always be a void without a pet there. I think we are given the gift of dogs and cats. The price is that we have to grieve them. Miss them. 🌷
I live a few hours away from my parents, but go there frequently. After their older cats passed on they got tiny kittens, something we've never had before (we've always been adopted by strays or taken in a car from a friend). Since we raised them for like 5 week old kittens they LOVE us, even my mom and brother who aren't cat people. I was at their house for two weeks and the cats were all over me because my dad was in the hospital and I was their surrogate dad haha Before I left I had to pick up our Tom tabby cat from my dad's bed, the cat was sleeping on his back, belly in the air. I scooped him up like a baby and held him on his back and he was just chilling. His sister will jump up on the table to get closer to you as soon as you walk out in the kitchen and constantly meows for food...which she never eats.
My indoor/outdoor cat 🐈⬛ has brought me countless presents (birds, mice, moles, bunnies) but I never show anger or disgust because I understand how important they are to her. I always thank her. We have a great bond and she is an amazing cat. Recently, she has let me know she is ill by peeing in a laundry basket right in front of me. When I cleaned it up I saw crystals in her urine so I called the vet right away.
One of our cats, Luna, speaks almost entirely in chirps and trills, unless she’s desperately needing help or talking to me. Then it’s short little meawrs. It makes me feel pretty special ❤
Love this! I have 4 cats and am also a cat foster mom. With my fosters I work to create secure attachments with them to make them more confident when they're up for adoption. And it really works. The shelter I volunteer with says I always have happy cats. That's no accident.
My cat is a quirky little lady who genuinely loves everyone she meets. You can meet her and pick her up within seconds. She cuddles everyone who will let her. She does so many of these things, but I feel like maybe there's not enogh kitty to contain all the love she has, so she gives love constantly.
aww! I had a cat like that over 20 years ago. He had an extra long tail so it would arch over with the tip of the tail hanging just behind and between his ears. I sometimes wish domestic cat lifespans are longer.
My buddy, Jerry, was like this. He was a very loving orange tabby and displayed every single one of these attributes. He had the most unique personality I'd ever experienced in a pet, and I miss him dearly.
My cat is long gone, but I am relieved, and pleased to be reassured that I know that my cat felt happy and safe with me. I think my cat exhibited every single one of these at one time or another.

Our tabby tries to get on my lap in the bathroom whether I’m on the toilet or in the bath 😑 sometimes she will climb in between the shower curtains and watch whoever is in the shower. I love her, but it’s creepy 😆
My cats have shown all of these. One of them (the boy cat) started to come under the covers every morning to snuggle into me and make biscuits whilst purring his heart out. He also left the odd "present" (usually a shrew) on my bed. He is very vocal too but more shy than his sister. She loves to rub herself against me and gives me little licks. I love cats and dogs. I can't ever imagine living without pets. They bring so much joy and unconditional love.
Hey Doc! I’ve worked in animal healthcare for 20 years starting in San Jose, Ca and now in Toronto , Canada. When I see a tail up I have deemed it “ happy, high tail”. My first cat Schmapty was an Egyptian Mau with a super long tail which he carried upright and curved over his spine nearly touching his head. Our vet had to examine him. She thought there might be a deformity. Nope, just the happiest, high tail she had ever seen. Besides, if he had relaxed it and let it drop, it would have dragged on the floor behind him like a sidewinder. 😸
My husband and I were in the process of adopting a dog when a neighborhood cat showed up on our porch covered in spider webs. That was nearly 2 years ago and he now has an indoor and outdoor bed with heating pad, gets hard and soft food but is still a wild boy at heart. We're often gifted squirrels, moles and rabbits. Looks like he's going to be sticking around for a while.
I took in a stray that apparently had a hard life and no love. It took a while for him to trust me but every night he curls up next to me and rests his head on my shoulder, every night. It’s so cool to see him walk down the hallway with his tail straight in the air. Since he is a huge cat and I have a small lap, he curls up next to me after kneading on my leg. It’s so precious.
Great video. My spouse were never cat people. That was until we adopted our Wolfgang. Now he runs the house and we wouldn't have it any other way. He is such a blessed member of the family.
A year ago we adopted a 5 year old siberian girl, initially she was very angry and scared but has slowly melted and yes she shows all of the inprint behaviours you talked about, she is still very aware of strangers and will not let any unknown person close.
One of my cats has a toy, its blue fish that used to be on a wand. He has an orange version too which was the first but it got lost somewhere. They are his favorite, to the point where we named it Baby. He brings it as a gift, a lot to me. Even when my door is closed at night I'll wake up to find it outside my door. Funny thing. I have a habit of running back and forth in the house and doing little hops cuz I have adhd, and one day I did it and looked behind me to see my cat run after me and do bunny hops too! He picked it up from me and I love it and it's now a habit of his too.
I find it interesting that my two cats are bonded to me in their own different ways. Although I think my Maine Coon would be just as happy with someone else as long as they gave him food. He is totally food motivated. My little barn cat on the other hand....she completely trusts me to pet her anywhere. Never had a cat that loved belly rubs so much, plus leg and paw rubs.
same situation with my two! both are strays that adopted me, but one of them is all about the FOOD and wags his tail exactly like a dog (i think he was brought up around them). my other cat totally trusts me with petting her belly. great pets, glad you have some great ones too :)
I have a tabby who is most bonded to me. He’s a very quiet and anxious cat and he almost never purrs and only meows when hungry. A few months ago he purred for the first time in years while he’s smothering me with affection, drooling, heat butting and kneading, everything. I can’t express how happy and honoured I felt hearing his purrs. He never purred for anyone else.

I have five cats that are very well imprinted upon me. I have two super seniors 17 + 19 that are quite possessive of me but do share me with the rest of my brood. Three that are almost six years old that I hand raised from feral rescues probably were less than a week old when I took them in. They are all extremely bonded to me and definitely see me as momma. And they are my babies!!! New subscriber.
Congratulations! I just know you're going to have the most wonderful, loving, rewarding experience with your kitty! As a lifelong cat owner and avowed cat lady, here's a couple of things, if you don't mind the advice and wisdom. 1, read up on cat behavior, and let your cat be a cat. Don't expect him or her to act like a dog or do things like a dog, or to be like any other pet. They are wonderfully unique. 2. let your cat be him/herself. Cats are as distinctive in personality as people are! 3) don't expect your cat to behave when you're not in the room (or when your back is turned). 😂 If you don't want him/her messing with something, put it away when you're gone! This is in their nature. It can't be "punished" out of them. If you catch them in the act, react, and they will learn to stop and run away when you catch them in the future, but that's it. They do what they want. 😂 Accept that it's how they are, and you'll be a happier person. 😊 4) have patience and show love always. You will get so much love in return. And it will be because your cat CHOOSES you, not because it's in its nature like it is with dogs (I'm not bashing dogs--just using for comparison). Cats choose to accept and love you, and it makes your relationship so immensely special. Best wishes with you and your cat. I'm excited for you!
Watching this video as my cat is sitting on my lap where he (always) refuses to leave. We bonded instantly when we met in the pound when he was 5 months old. I said hello to him and he walked right up to me and started licking my nose. It was love at first sight for both of us. Now it's 14 years later and I still adore him. 😁😸
You know, I knew my cat loved me, but wow, didn’t think I’d actually have all 10 signs. (She also looks out for my son, as if he were her own kitten. If he’s upset, or crying, she’s there. If he’s playing something neat, she’s right there with him. She also guards his door when he goes to bed, until he falls asleep, to make him feel safe - I’ve always said she doesn’t need to do that, that I can sit and listen for him, but she’s always given me a look, like, “Nah, Mum. I got this one. You go eat dinner, get ready for bed, go play. I’m watching him.” She very much co-mums him, and is happy to do so. She sometimes will nip me in the upper arm, really hard, and I’ve always assumed it was anger about something I wasn’t doing right for her. Turns out that no, she’s telling me that something is wrong - not with her, but with me. Specifically, that my blood sugar is dangerously low, something I didn’t even know I had issues with until recently. So, yeah, my cat saved my life. Go Cookiedough! 😻
Wow my late kitty similarly took care of my daughter when she was little. She hung out with my daughter since my daughter was a baby, she let my daughter dress her up and baby clothes and would lie on my daughter's bed every night until my daughter fell asleep.
One of my cats was very fearful when I first got him. Very jumpy, skiddish.. I had to remind myself to walk slower, be patient, etc. Then, one day, he presented his belly to me while we were cuddling and I knew I had earned his trust and love. And that is such a good feeling! I love my kitties :)

Our sweetheart Nikolai came to us at 4 months old and it didn't take long for him to bond with us both. A loving sweetheart of a boy. I always had girl kitties and I didn't know if it would be different with a boy, but every cat is unique, right? We score 10 out of 10 with an added bonus. Niko always gives plenty of love when he's being served his food, he nudges and kisses even after the food is in his dish. I've never had a cat be so grateful for his food. He's not greedy or tubby, just sweet. Humans are so graced to have our pets with their unconditional love. I'm blessed and I know it!
Lost my cat of nearly 15 years last spring, so this was very bittersweet to watch. I noted the 10 things you listed and realised he did all of them. The last one made me laugh a bit. He brought me so many presents throughout his lifetime I lost count. Sometimes he would bring 2-3 a day, and he wouldn't just stop at the usual mouse or garden bird. He would go for pigeons and even gulls too. Even though I felt saddened thinking of him throughout the video, thank you for letting me realise how bonded my cat and I were. I always felt like I would be judged for saying we had a deep connection, and that he was like my shadow, because I think, as you pointed out, cats have this aloof stereotype.
I lost my wife around 4 years ago and about 3 years ago I found a kitten that was injured and very feral on my wife's memorial and he is such a beautiful cat but sadly only will allow me to pet or play with him he hisses at anyone who comes in the house but with me its a beautiful buddy.
My girl Layla shows all the imprint signs. The thing is, she shows all those signs to everyone. And I mean everyone. She even showers with love and attention seeking every random delivery person. As if she was raised by labradors.
I am so happy to say that my cat, Teddy, performs all of the t0 bonding attachments to me. She even meows at me loudly every day as she asks me to walk with her around the garden. Parts of the garden make her nervous but she will happily visit these places when she knows I have her back.
I’ve been a dog person my whole life but just recently we were adopted by two very persistent stray cats. The first one was pregnant so we brought her in and got her seen and took care of her and her two kittens until we found homes for the kittens when they were weaned off Momma. Luna picked me as her person and would even bring me her kittens. Skittles is a boy and we let him in around Christmas after deciding we would make it work for him. He was always at our doorstep. We already have two dogs and a toddler lol but the cats have blended in seamlessly. Skittles imprinted on my husband but both cats melt for my son and are so patient with him. My son has become a cat person and is obsessed with them ❤
Cats get an unfair shake. Their public perception isn't close to being accurate. Honestly, we have much more in common to cats than dogs in terms of our boundaries, food pickiness, and neediness.
Our latest rescue, Charlie, is highly responsive to perceived need for comfort. He shocked me once when I made a loud screech-wail sound at some gross food thing in another video. He thought I was in pain or something, and he jumped right onto me. He was purring loudly, giving me face mushies, pawing at my face, mewing, licking my nose and kneading on my torso all in the same split second he jumped on me. It was amazing to find that out about him, but I felt so bad for making him worry so much. He also used to bring all of the kitty toys to my side of the bed and meow at me at night before he got used to his safe, new indoor life. He's such a sweetie and I'm so glad we're living up to his expectations. ♥
I will never forget the face of my cat when I left her at the vet to get the operation, it was a look of sorrow and disbelief that I still can see. Luckily she is well adapted, playful and goofy, she and her sister used to belong to a client of mine and I adopted them because he couldn't keep them, they were (and are) always treated with kindness and love and you can see that in the way they interact (or "intercat" if you prefer) with people, they are a bonded pair and I think they bonded with me❤❤❤
My cat and I weren't all that close but I learned she likes when I talk to her. She pays attention and I noticed she pays attention to my tone of voice. Since then she likes hanging out more :)
My old guy (rip) knew the sound of my car horn when I came home from school and never had his tail down. I have a beautiful Tabby girl who is currently kneading on me and just curled up so tightly next to me, purring like no tomorrow. Glad to know they love(d) me!!!

seems our cat has inprinted on my kid mostly but some on me, is that normal? since he does most of the things to her does that mean he has just imprinted on her?

Our 2 cats do almost all these things, except no hunting gifts since they are indoors. But one of them often wags her tail and that worries me, is this ALWAYS a sign of stress/something negative or does it exist cats with happy wagging tails….?

I adopted a 2 year old cat from a coworker whose husband didn’t treat the cat well. She was SO fearful that she hid under my bed and stayed there. Every evening I laid on the floor beside the bed. I brought food & water to her and talked to her there for hours every day. After 2 weeks she surprised me by coming out from under the bed and laying with me. She never hid again. We were completely bonded. She also wanted absolutely nothing to go with ANYONE else. Eventually she got comfortable with my young daughter, but no one else. She lived to be 19 years old and passed about 10 years ago. I still miss her. Her name was Sydney.

It's a slightly different situation, but my two boys were everyone's friends as kittens, feeling so safe with me and assuming every hooman must be awesome. When they were +/- 1yo I had workers in the house and one or more did something to one or both, because after that my cats suddenly became extremely fearful of strangers, especially of men. Just the ring of the doorbell had them panicking. If someone entered they ran away and hid. My heart broke for them! It took me a very long time to get them accustomed to the idea of strangers and particularly to interact with strangers again, but luckily it worked at one point. With my slightly younger boy it took over a year and I even had to reconnect our bond a bit. I think he blamed me or associated me with what had happened. Nowadays he does all mentioned 10 points again, but especially the cuddle bit took over a year to reappear! As to the strangers, I gave very strict rules to people in my house - don't suddenly touch them, leave them be if they're obviously agitated/fearful (explained body language), introduce yourself with one crooked finger and go from there etc etc. With those that responded well to my cats and vice versa I took it one step further and tried to let them help me in linking strangers in my home to good things like play and treats. I saw little differences over time, until they were obviously relaxed and feeling safe again.
They'll never again be the super open buddies of before, but perhaps that's good in a way. They've learnt there can be bad humans (and I've become more careful as well, keeping them with me or at least checking on interactions). They always wait a while now to 'taste' the energy in the room, see how I interact with those strangers and then come and say hi or even ask for petting. They really like some family and friends, or even medical professionals who come to me - f.e. my edema therapist is a big hit with both and they'll easily lie next to her while she's doing the treatment, letting her touch them too - but they've learnt when it's better to stay in their trees or in my bedroom for example. Cats can learn to trust again, but the bigger the abuse, the smaller the circle of new trustees.
Animal abuse is revolting and I hope that one day punishment for it will be much harsher than it is nowadays (including psychological help, because there must be sth wrong with or broken in someone if they hurt innocent, small souls).

Our 10 month old cat bonded with our newborn daughter. The cat started by laying next to the baby in the crib and on the the jungle gym. The cat slept with our daughter her entire life. She sat with her when our daughter was older and worked on homework after school. The cat even gave her love bites from time to time and "groomed" her. The cat mourned when our daughter went away to college . She stopped eating. It was sad to watch. The cat lived for 21 years. The bond they had was special.

We have a stray who just decided one day that she was ours. Immediately strolled up on our porch for pets, purring away, and started giving gifts. She's now 90% an inside cat, who makes biscuits on us, who guards us while we use the bathroom, and loves to be held like a baby. It feels so special to have been chosen by a cat.

My indoor cat brings me dish towels from our kitchen every single night. He drops them in the hallway just outside of my bedroom door and I praise him each time. I cannot even begin to imagine how many birds, mice and other tiny creatures we have spared by keeping him indoors, but I am so glad that he found a positive way to utilize his wonderful hunting skills! It's nice knowing that we are safe from the evil dish towels because of our loyal hunter.

Two of my cats do this to both my wife and I and also our son...the other one is a bit of a loner and never really broke out of being feral...Shes a sweet kitty but shes off hiding in the rafters most of the time....At least she's up high like a cat should be and not hiding under the bed or something, She sometimes visits when we're using the restroom...Odd, We don't bug them when they are trying to poopy!
From a shelter, I adopted a Siamese-mix 8 year old girl who seemed visibly depressed from missing her longtime family who had surrendered her for lack of funds. Turned out that she wanted a mutually loving relationship, and as a lone senior whose previous old cat had just died, I wanted the same. She invented the welcome home ritual that we perform every time I come through the door. She sleeps with me and because she's treated with love every minute of the day, she's very secure and bonded to me. At over age 13, she's still frisky, silly and meows only to demand play time. We're so lucky to have found each other!
I have a young child with ASD and she loves our cat. But she is often also unsure of if the cat likes her, is mad at her, etc. Reassurance only very occasionally works to calm her concerns. We watched your video together and she was able to identify all ten behaviors on her own, smiling bigger at each one. This is such a wonderful tool. Thank you so much!

I'm glad to see that you understand your child's struggles. I'm also on the spectrum, when I was little, I was confused by cats behaviour. How different they are compared to most dogs. It took me into my 20s to truly understand the feline species, and in doing so, I've grown a deep appreciation for their unique personalities and now own my very own bombay! We idolize each other, he is my best friend.
Oo I love that, a bit of a reading tip, there's a book specificly aimed at childern with ASD that's called: All cats have autism.
I love the book so much (I have ASD, but am a female adult). It's super cute and an easy way to showcase some symptomes of ASD.

My cat was born and lived her first six years in a shelter in the "quiet" room for fearful kitties. Her tail was always down. After a year of me walking slow and talking soft, that tail is up, she comes to her name and is starting to lay against me. She's still spooky, but getting better.

He loves being groomed and massaged, so will now come to me for grooming - only if I'm on the floor, or sometimes sitting. He's still afraid of motion over his head. He also panics if I try to pick him up when I'm standing. But he's come a long way in 9 months, especially for an older cat.

For those hesitant to get an older cat in fear that it’s too late to imprint, it can be done!! I adopted a beautiful 9yr old black cat years ago and she very quickly imprinted and bonded to me. I had her 9 years after adoption (she passed last year at 18). I Met and moved in with my husband 4 years ago and she spent those 4 years letting him know I was hers 😂 she always slept on my face/neck and would follow me everywhere waiting for me to sit down so she could get on me somehow. That cat was a part of my soul I will never get back. Hug your kitties and appreciate every cuddle. ❤
Absolutely. My last round of cats was two bonded 14 year olds and an 11 yo and they bonded with us very quickly
My kitty was 17/18 when we got her last year and she bonded with me within 3 days of having her. A year later and me and my bf are the only ones that can touch her. Our 4 kids can't get near her without a hiss and a bat. 😅 She always disliked children apparently and belonged to an elderly woman who passed away.
I'm hoping once I move to a larger home to adopt a senior cat into our family because they're so sweet and my heart breaks seeing them not get adopted 💔
Sorry to hear about your cat. I lots my Heidi of 20 years this past week and I cried more for her then any human I lost. You are totally right about them being a part of your soul that's gone.
We got Penny from animal control as an adult- they guessed she was maybe 2 or 3 and she was horribly matted. She was so fearful that she hid in the basement for months- only coming up after my husband and son went to bed. I'd stay up late to spend some proximity time with her. It's been 5 years now and she's a sassy, bossy, cranky, beautiful member of our family. She is particularly obsessed with my husband, lol! She head butts so hard and purrs like a rusty chainsaw.
Found a stray kitten while at work. Vet felt she was 4-5 weeks old at the time. I brought her home and my wife and I cared for her and brought her back to full health. I had absolutely no previous experience with cats. Fast forward year and a half later and I am officially a “cat dad”. She meets me at the door after work and curls up on my every night prior to bed. Way more affectionate then I had ever believed a cat to be and I find myself borderline spoiling her. Definitely the best decision to rescue her as I would likely have never owned a cat let alone get to full on “cat Dad” status.

In 2010 my mother died suddenly. And days later I walked by a beautiful cat in a pet store window who looked as sad as I felt. I went in and discovered that Lilly had been adopted and was dropped back and she was depressed. I said that I would take her and never let her go. She was so pretty, good manners, affectionate--VERY SMART--and she wasn't shy about what she wanted. Over nearly 14 years together--and she still looked beautiful and still very bossy. And then she was gone. I'm still praying she'll be back. I've never been a crybaby--until now.

So sorry to read that, Suzette. You probably know, though, that over 14 years is getting old for a cat; and when they get older are more likely to get sick, like with kidney disease., which is very common in older cats. And when cats are sick they tend to hide. I hope you find her alright, though.
Yess my cat has different meows for different situations as if he is saying English words 🥰 if I say "state your concern cat!" He will literally start to "talk" non stop for minutes 😂
And he sleeps with his arm around me ☺️
My cat meows at me, I ask her, “how may I be of assistance?” Then she runs off to her food bowl or whichever place is relevant to her request, knowing I’m following at the rear. They are funny! ‘State your concern, cat’ did make me laugh though! 👌

I had a similar experience with one of my babies. I was living in a house that had a mouse problem. I told the landlord and he said, "so get a cat!" So I took to the internet to find a good mouser. The add said, "Free cat. Cute but Psycho!" I responded and asked if she was a good mouser. I was told she was. I was also told she hated kids and men so if I take her, keep her away from the kids. I thought, fair enough. I told my kids that the cat I was picking up wasn't fond of children and to not be surprised if she didn't warm up to them right away. I picked her up and brought her home. The kids sat in a circle on the floor, with ample room between them so she didn't feel trapped. I opened the carrier and she beelined it straight to each of the kids and started rubbing all over them and accepting scritches and loves. She didn't even get a "proper" name. Everyone just called her Baby and she answered to it.
@@JennicaDuncan Both the original comment and yours just proves that sometimes it's not that the cat is bad it's that the people didn't know how to be with cats. When I volunteered at the local humane society visiting cats to socialize them, I was told I was a natural with the cats because I immediately knew how to get to their level and let them come to me. This was of course because I had grown up with cats, I don't think there has been a time in my life when we haven't had one or more cats.

Yesss! Same happened with my niece's cats. They were severely neglected and my MIL told me that they behave very bad. I was with them for one week. Took them to the vet for a full check up and even spayed one. My MIL was shocked at how peaceful they were with me. Cats really are all about the environment they are in and they respond accordingly.
I actually felt very loved after this video. They're far more expressive than people give them credit for. They also get more comfortable and loving with time if you're being patient with them and treating them right. We adopted a 3.5 year old cat five years ago and we still find her mellowing and wanting more love and affection and security over time or learning to communicate or wanting to be part of things.

Well, I think my cat is a very outgoing cat, he's geting closer and more confident every day, he shows practically every inprinting atitude you mentioned . He's so funny when he gets nervous or mad , and that happens when I'm out for a long period of time , he throws blows at me as if he's scolding me !!! 😅

It's been a year and a half since I lost my cat who was my childhood best friend. I haven't been able to look at any pictures/videos of him because it hurt too much. But this video made me go and do it, and I'm glad I did. I'm crying my eyes out but I needed this. We had this little game when I stared at him across the room and he meowed at me, I then hid behind the door and when I stopped hiding, he meowed at me again. We could do it for like ten minutes straight haha. He was very introverted, but he really loved me and my mom. I miss him so much, 17 years were not enough.
Years ago there was a stray I tried to take in. I let him shelter in my shop and left food for him. He would never allow me to get close enough to touch him but from time to time he left me presents on the doormat inside the shop. I felt so bad for him that someone had hurt him too much for him to trust a human again but it was wonderful to see these signs that he appreciated sharing the space with me.
Nobody hurt him necessarily, feral cats avoid ppl at most costs & it's their instinct to keep a low profile.
Poor thing but it sounds like he found the absolute best situation for him.
For a former feral he had the freedom to come & go. But he also knew he had a safe space there with you.
Some organizations will actually re-home ferals that don't tame down. With farmers as barn cats or in New York they were rehoming them with places that have large docks for the trucks in the back. Not so much to hunt mice/rats but to just get the place smelling like cat so the rodents don't want to come there.
Don't feel too bad though. There's a tortoiseshell that likes to hang around my porch & my neighbors because we'll give her food. She'll actually follow me to my door if she wants food. But I've never gotten to pet her. Although I think my neighbor has.

A stray cat has started to sleep on my porch a year ago. Not sure how old he is.pretty big size. I feed him and when I open the door to feed him he is sitting there waiting for me. But he will not let me touch him or even purr.sometimes he will come on porch while I am sitting and lay down.not sure if he will ever bond with me
In November i had found a starved kitten in a bush. She was completely ferral, and didnt let me near her for 3 days until she finally did. Since she was only 11 weeks old. Seeing she does everything on this list nearly made me cry. I love my girl 🥰
My Beau was found in the median of a very busy 6 lane highway. My son heard his cries from a parking lot. When he walked into the median, kitty ran to his feet crying. He was about 6 weeks old. I can't help but wonder if he had been thrown from a moving car 😢.
I picked him up very quickly after this and he's been my little man ever since. He has definitely imprinted on me and I love him dearly. I just wish his "love bites" were a little softer. 😂.
He will be 3 next month.
I raised a kitten from 4wks to 16yrs. He went with me everywhere; vacations, long car rides, hotels, ever changing homes …Starbucks! Purrs, trilling, biscuits. When I lost him to diabetes, I chose my next cat by how he presented his tail (high). 6yrs strong and have never regretted my choice…or him choosing me 😃

@@nicooliver6019 I know this isn't the answer you were looking for but a long, long time ago (back when I was in primary school) we had a cat that we had to put down suddenly after finding them almost lifeless on the back mat. It happened all of a sudden. The vet explained they'd suffered serious kidney problems because we pretty much only fed dry food at the time. My mum grew up in Italy during WWII and they didn't have cat food so she just looked at the price, thinking that something labelled "cat food" has to be right for cats. I never forgot that cat, so now I'm in charge of buying my cat's food I feed very little dry food, and one that's a better quality - the bulk or all of every meal is wet food. I can't afford really expensive stuff but I try and read the label and get the best I can afford rather than just looking at the price ☺️
@@loretta_3843 honesty I am hearing this more and more that dry food can get cause health issues done the line like diabetes and urinary/kidney issues as it’s high in carbs and dehydrating. I think people need to more educated and made aware that just because something is marketed as cat food it’s not all appropriate or healthy to feed our cats

I was adopted by force by a very standoffish community cat, about a year ago. She stalked me for a while (watched me feed birds & squirrels) then one day came right up to me, trilled & head bomped me! Some neighbors were concerned, since they hadn't seen her around, but my mom told them it's ok, she moved in with me & even sleeps on my lap & in bed. I'd say she easily has about 9/10 score so far. BTW: She's easily the bossiest & most intelligent cat I've ever had! 😻 p.s. I subbed, too~

We recently rescued a stray five week old kitten. Female. She’s now 13 weeks old and constantly follows me, sleeps on my pillow, licks my face, and sticks her nose in my ear and sniffs… But, she also bites! Usually easy at first then a bit rough. We usually blow into her face to discourage this behavior. Worked at first, now she is reluctant to stop. She will bite my nose and chin while I sleep. Any recommendations? As a LVT at the AMC in Manhattan I thought I knew all the answers, LOL!
My rescue cat Bella does what we call "floppy stretchy rollies" over and over down the hall as a "welcome home" as we enter the house from the garage. She stretches out, flops over and rolls on her back from side to side, then gets up and does it again and again, farther into the house as she goes. It's so adorable!

My cats always greet me at the door when I come home. My ex husband confirmed they'd always get up and walk to the door a minute before I unlocked the door - we were living in an apartment. On the second floor. They always recognized my steps outside the building (!), knew it meant I was going to be arriving in a moment, and came to say hello. To this day it makes me feel so loved and leaves me in awe at their sense of hearing!
That's how my cat is, he learned the sound of my car and will get up, from a dead sleep, once Im on the street and go to the window looking out to the driveway and wait for me then run to the door when Im at the door. He also starts meowing as loud as he possibly can and I can hear him usually lol
Our cats can always tell when it's my husband home from work & not our housemate. They get very excited, jump onto the corner of the bed to greet him (he comes in through our bedroom) and love saying hi to Daddy! 💖
Eons ago when I went off to college I was homesick and would come home Friday afternoons and drive back Sunday evening. My mom noticed that one of our cats would always hang out on my bed at around 3 PM on Fridays. I laughed it off, but the next time I came home, my kitty (actually was supposed to be my dad's cat) was waiting.

Same here, I have a security camera. As soon as the car is pulling in the driveway they go to the entry area. They know its exact audio signature. I have seen it too many times to count.
My former cat knew the smell of the Forrest around the cabin. He would always wake up and meow 1 1/4 miles away. Nothing changed with the car for another 1/2 mile but he knew we were near. The trip time was never the same a the lighting was different each trip as well but he would always react at the same approximate point.
My cat has definitely done all of these things with me. She showed up on my porch doorstep one day and was visibly hungry. She instantly let me pet her and I fed her. I found out she was microchipped and that the previous owners had intentionally abandoned her.. when winter came, I started letting her sleep inside, to stay warm.. she went from only letting me pet her for a very short time and then walking away, to sleeping on my chest at night and curling up beside me on my bed and meeting me at the door when I get home. She’s very sweet and loving and I’m grateful she showed up at my door.
She hopped up on my lap after I finished typing this.
She could feel you mood change, my turn, time to stop and be with mine.

I am a "cat whisperer." I work with clients to help correct problem cat behaviors, and I thank you for everything you said above. Jackson Galaxy is right -- too many people see cats through dog-colored glasses. I have also notice that fulltime indoor cats (my own, and others) bring a favorite toy to their human, or leave it on their human's bed. This is the indoor equivalent of a mouse, mole or lizard for an inside-outside cat. Also, if you have an inside-outside cat, and you scold them for bringing small prey, they often come back with a BIGGER small creature, because the first gift didn't please you. I tell my clients that although it goes against human logic, to PRAISE Kitty when she brings home a mouse, then discard it in an OUTSIDE trash can when the cat isn't looking. She will bring home fewer gifts that way.
I have known cats (my own, friends' and clients') who have a vocabulary unique to their humans. A dear tuxedo of ours, Shamu, used to request "wa-uh" if other cats had been drinking from his preferred bowl (make it fresh, Mama!). He greeted us at the door with "EH-oh" because we always said "hello" to him when we came in. He had a large vocabulary including "no" and about a dozen other non-human word sounds that had very specific meanings. I have found that if I consistently say hello when I see a cat, "water" when I present fresh water, etc. that cats often try to mimic those sounds.

You must have a good ear. I too would repeat the same words like water, treat, outside, massage (petting), hello but all the meows sound the same to me. One cat was quite talkative and quirky. But his different meows were hard for me to understand. Also, he didn't raise his butt or put his tail upright. He would slowly wag it back and forth. Not sure why this hasn't been noticed in some cats (it's different from a tail swish).

I had a Heinze 57 that would hop into bed to wake me up. She'd grab my head with her front paws & proceed to groom my bangs. We were not finished until she decided that we were finished. I'd get up & put out the cat food.(For her & 3 others). Then I'd go blow dry my cat spit bangs.

3 weeks ago I adopted a timid little girl who had been DUMPED at the ARL. It was so obvious that she hadn't gotten any attention. She hid out under the bed but has come out to lay beside me. A stray kitten adopted our family, we were moving and she was amazing! After a few months she explored and got lost, the kids were worried when she didn't come in. The next day I saw her in the alley, she was so scared, when she saw me she came running meowing with excitement. She was my shadow for the rest of the day, now she doesn't wander! So awesome she chose us and wants to stay close to us! Love our new family member 😸

My black cat is my ride or die. He's joined at my hip and is my bestie. I'm very blessed to have been chosen by him 🥰Not only does he stare like you said, he'll go nose to nose and just stay there while purring, and sometimes I even get get eskimo kisses. He's an old timer now, and there will never be another one like him ever. Whatever it is that goes beyond imprinted is pretty much what we have lol
I had that with my boy Smokey. I used to joke that I should change his name to Velcro because he was always stuck to me. My cat loving friends and I call this a soul-cat relationship. Their love is unconditional and freely given at all times. It's a very special relationship and you are so lucky to have been chosen. Cherish this relationship always ❤

I adopted a 1 & 1/2yr old black Mama cat from our local rescue & named her Olive. She runs to the door when I come home from work, is harness trained, & sleeps with me every night. Extremely affectionate & playful, I truly hit the jackpot with my micropanther. 🖤🖤🖤
I had one like yours. He was 11 when he crossed the rainbow bridge. I have rescue girl now and she's such a scardy cat, but working on that. But sure miss my boy...

I have a stray kitty that lived outside and I fed for almost three years. I built her an insulated and heated house for the winter and fed her all of the food, but she refused to come inside. One late night during a blizzard and arctic blast she finally raised her surrender flag. She has been indoors living a very lavish life ever since. I am not allowed to touch her because she is still feral but she is always near me and rubs eagerly on any surface to show her love. Makes my heart melt.
That is so increibly kind and generous of you. Not enough people would provide a feral cat with a home and love, while still respecting her boundaries, and not demanding anything in return. She is so lucky to have you! 😇😻

We adopted a starving pregnant feral female cat. It took four years of care before she would let me pet her. I bought her a heated cat house for winter time. She would never come in the house though and also freaked out if I tried. She would let me carry her around the yard but only outside. She was with us for 12 years. We did our best to care for her. We found homes for her kittens and got her spayed and vaccines. Once she was losing weight and I had to trap her to get her to the vet. Sure enough she had a cracked infected tooth.
I've been feeding a ginger female kitty that I named Ginger for 4 years. She won't let me pet her, but she'll rub her body on my legs. Lol!

One of my favorite things my cats do is curl their tails around my forearm. Just melts my heart every time 🥰💚

Cats have so many unique ways of expressing affection to their people. I’ve never had the furry friendship bracelet, but I had one that would always put one forepaw on my leg or shoulder whenever he sat or curled up next to me, and one that would always break into a run when he walked into a room and saw me, as if he couldn’t wait to get to me. The male half of my current pair likes to grab my head with a paw and pull me in for a headbutt. His sister likes to make biscuits on me, or next to me while purring and looking me in the eye. I don’t know how to describe how it’s different from regular staring, but direct eye contact is her love language. 🥰

I’ve had cats for 54 years. Many, many rescues. I’ve had all the behaviors you mentioned from all of these cats. I adore cats! My husband and I now have only one left as we sadly buried the 2 oldest ones (17 and 17 1/2 years old), in the last 6 months. The one left is about 5 years old. I think he misses the last 2 cats. He is ALWAYS near or on one of us, then with the other. It’s even more so since we got an electric blanket! 🤣. I enjoyed your video very much!

I am sorry for your loss. My orange shadow misses his brother who got sick and passed away in June. A new kitten walked up to our gate at 11 PM and now he is acting like dad to the kitten. I am guessing the kitten has helped.
54 years now that's inspiring. I have three cats and they're my first. I really fear the day one of them passes on. I worry that I'll be so heart broken that I won't want pets after they go, but I love cats so much. Does it ever get any easier?
My cat, Aro, has healed so much of my heart. He is a tuxedo cat, and is so smart and I'm certain his meows sometimes sound like hes saying "mom" 😂

Yes, tuxedo cats are wonderful!!! I have two male tuxedo litter mates; they talk to me all the time; I call them "the squeaker" and "the singer," because that's how they sound. They are 16 years old, and have brought me so much love and humor.

We had another kitten, Aro's brother although he sadly passed when he was little. I was so worried for a while about not having another cat for him and thought he would be lonely but he is actually best friends with our darling old dog and they play together, sleep together etc ❤️

My older boy will force his way into my lap while I'm on the toilet lmao he also brings me my dirty socks from the laundry bin. Sadly, he started getting kitty dementia he wakes up yowling like he doesn't know where he is I can call him and he will hunt me down for the snuggles and go back to sleep. I dread the day I lose him, hes been my big baby for 14 yrs.

Panther came from an insecure past to me thru a foster program at 6 months old. When I met her, she only watched me carefully, until I laid on my back on the floor. The foster mom had never seen a person get literally on the cat level. She approached me cautiously. Thats how it went for another month in my home. Me approaching her in calm manners low down and letting her decide what we would do. Now she is a rather exuberant in her love. I often wake with her flopped across me. Panther is almost 1 1/2 years old now, and she does all of it, except let me pack her around. Her presents are household items. She may have needed me, but turns out I needed her more.
Hmm, i have always got on the floor a lot interacting with cats ever since, i can remember. Just seemed the natural thing to do to me. Never thought much about it.

My cat was abandoned in the dead of winter and I have now had her about 8 years. She has done everything on your list. When she was dropped off to my house it took her all of 10 minutes to know she was home, I have never seen a cat get so comfortable SO quickly. She is the sweetest cat I have ever had...she is no doubt a mama's girl.
Precisely! I am imprinted by my seven cats, especially my precious 25 year old Zilda, who is doing so well, and is treated with the utmost care and love. Besides, I think my 5 dogs are imprinted by the cats too, for they all get along so well. All of which were rescued in dire conditions, and all are cared for with the most complete love and dedication!
I adopted my cat when he was 18 months old. He wasn't super close at first but now he does kneading, head butts, kisses, cuddling in my lap, sleeping on me, he talks, and is just a big sweetheart. He's always excited to see me and won't leave me alone for at least 10 minutes after I come in. He crawls all over me and practically makes me hold him. He gives hugs too. He's 10 now. He's come a long way. He's a very good boy.
We are lucky, our cat has bonded with both my husband and I! She does half of behaviours with him (chirping and chatty with him, jumps on the counter to be near him, curls up next to him at night) and the other half with me (Long slow blinks, grooms my hand, runs to greet me when I come in the door).

I’ve never been one for cats as pets, always a dog person. But a little stray gorgeous short haired black female around 7 or 8 weeks with a small white button spot on her chest (eyes were still very dark in color and lasted about week) strayed in the outer skirts of the yard (I live in the country) at night of all timings, cold, wet, hungry, very scared and meowing intensely at a distance, though. It took me 3 weeks at a very slow pace with her because I knew she had been abused by seeing a big healing soar on her forehead and she finally let me touch her. It’s been history every since with her watchful eye on my dog, her buddy, my little Bean, and I’ve been her Momma and he’s been her best friend every since. But of course, he’s a little jealous because he’s been my baby for 5 years.
She has displayed all ten behaviors with me including letting me rub her belly and let’s me rub her feet and she will strike up a cat conversation with me by soft meowing and We start meowing at each other…I don’t know what I’m saying to her but it’s gentle meows back and forth and she understands it’s a healthy loving conversation then we head rub each other afterwards and she lets me kiss her on her nose. I’m not sure exactly what that means or represents in the cat world but I feel the love between us.
Even though I try to read any piece of literature I find but it does really answer questions. There are things I don’t understand so I’m still learning and kind of figuring it out as we grow together.
It’s funny, I tried naming her several different names and she would just ignore me except when I called Ms. Kitty, she’d come running.
So in essence, she chose her own preferred name. And it’s been Ms. Kitty every since.
She’s now going on about 10 months old and a very loving laid back baby girl and spoiled rotten like her big brother, My Little Bean. ❤️

My kitty was found by a dumpster in winter, trying to scratch up garbage to eat. She was barely 4 months old. I adopted her at 6 months. She was horribly headshy-as if she'd been struck. It took years of gentle handling, but now, she puts her head in my hand wanting attention and neck scratching! ❤️ 🐱
The best part of my day is when I come home and go to sit on the sofa once all my stuff is put away. My cat is launch herself at me to sit in my lap. It always makes me smile.
My husband's cat does all of these things to both of us but she definitely picked him as her human 💜
Crying here because I lost my baby a month ago after 11.5 years. She did 1-9 frequently except bringing me presents because she was an indoor cat. She would RUN towards me when I got home. I would pick her up and cradle her in my arms and she would lick my hands like crazy while "air kneading" which is kneading, but straight up in the air ..while licking. It was so cute. She did one thing not mentioned here, which was love bites or nibbles. When I was holding her, she would come up and gently bite my chin. It was adorable. She would cuddle up to me in bed and sleep, sometimes most of the night. I miss that cat SO much. I know I'll need to get another one, but I'm afraid that no cat will ever measure up. P.S. Forgot one. She would sit by me whenever I was on the toilet (yup) and stare at me, wide-eyed for a long time. I'm 60 and I've been fascinated by cats my entire life. They are so unique.

I live a few hours away from my parents, but go there frequently. After their older cats passed on they got tiny kittens, something we've never had before (we've always been adopted by strays or taken in a car from a friend). Since we raised them for like 5 week old kittens they LOVE us, even my mom and brother who aren't cat people. I was at their house for two weeks and the cats were all over me because my dad was in the hospital and I was their surrogate dad haha Before I left I had to pick up our Tom tabby cat from my dad's bed, the cat was sleeping on his back, belly in the air. I scooped him up like a baby and held him on his back and he was just chilling. His sister will jump up on the table to get closer to you as soon as you walk out in the kitchen and constantly meows for food...which she never eats.
My indoor/outdoor cat 🐈⬛ has brought me countless presents (birds, mice, moles, bunnies) but I never show anger or disgust because I understand how important they are to her. I always thank her. We have a great bond and she is an amazing cat.
Recently, she has let me know she is ill by peeing in a laundry basket right in front of me. When I cleaned it up I saw crystals in her urine so I called the vet right away.
I'm so happy! I love my cats more than ANYTHING, and this just reaffirmed what I already knew after a long crappy weekend

One of our cats, Luna, speaks almost entirely in chirps and trills, unless she’s desperately needing help or talking to me. Then it’s short little meawrs. It makes me feel pretty special ❤
Love this! I have 4 cats and am also a cat foster mom. With my fosters I work to create secure attachments with them to make them more confident when they're up for adoption. And it really works. The shelter I volunteer with says I always have happy cats. That's no accident.

My cat is a quirky little lady who genuinely loves everyone she meets. You can meet her and pick her up within seconds. She cuddles everyone who will let her. She does so many of these things, but I feel like maybe there's not enogh kitty to contain all the love she has, so she gives love constantly.
When our cat is really happy, she brings her tail all the way forward so that the tip touches the back of her head. It's adorable.
aww! I had a cat like that over 20 years ago. He had an extra long tail so it would arch over with the tip of the tail hanging just behind and between his ears. I sometimes wish domestic cat lifespans are longer.
I have three cats and they show oodles of these signs to me and I love them all so much. They are my babies.
My buddy, Jerry, was like this. He was a very loving orange tabby and displayed every single one of these attributes. He had the most unique personality I'd ever experienced in a pet, and I miss him dearly.

Our tabby tries to get on my lap in the bathroom whether I’m on the toilet or in the bath 😑 sometimes she will climb in between the shower curtains and watch whoever is in the shower. I love her, but it’s creepy 😆

A tail straight up in the air is always an indicator to me that they are happy!
My cats have shown all of these. One of them (the boy cat) started to come under the covers every morning to snuggle into me and make biscuits whilst purring his heart out. He also left the odd "present" (usually a shrew) on my bed. He is very vocal too but more shy than his sister. She loves to rub herself against me and gives me little licks. I love cats and dogs. I can't ever imagine living without pets. They bring so much joy and unconditional love.
Hey Doc! I’ve worked in animal healthcare for 20 years starting in San Jose, Ca and now in Toronto , Canada. When I see a tail up I have deemed it “ happy, high tail”. My first cat Schmapty was an Egyptian Mau with a super long tail which he carried upright and curved over his spine nearly touching his head. Our vet had to examine him. She thought there might be a deformity. Nope, just the happiest, high tail she had ever seen. Besides, if he had relaxed it and let it drop, it would have dragged on the floor behind him like a sidewinder. 😸
My husband and I were in the process of adopting a dog when a neighborhood cat showed up on our porch covered in spider webs. That was nearly 2 years ago and he now has an indoor and outdoor bed with heating pad, gets hard and soft food but is still a wild boy at heart. We're often gifted squirrels, moles and rabbits. Looks like he's going to be sticking around for a while.
I took in a stray that apparently had a hard life and no love. It took a while for him to trust me but every night he curls up next to me and rests his head on my shoulder, every night. It’s so cool to see him walk down the hallway with his tail straight in the air. Since he is a huge cat and I have a small lap, he curls up next to me after kneading on my leg. It’s so precious.

Great video. My spouse were never cat people. That was until we adopted our Wolfgang. Now he runs the house and we wouldn't have it any other way. He is such a blessed member of the family.
A year ago we adopted a 5 year old siberian girl, initially she was very angry and scared but has slowly melted and yes she shows all of the inprint behaviours you talked about, she is still very aware of strangers and will not let any unknown person close.
One of my cats has a toy, its blue fish that used to be on a wand. He has an orange version too which was the first but it got lost somewhere. They are his favorite, to the point where we named it Baby. He brings it as a gift, a lot to me. Even when my door is closed at night I'll wake up to find it outside my door.
Funny thing. I have a habit of running back and forth in the house and doing little hops cuz I have adhd, and one day I did it and looked behind me to see my cat run after me and do bunny hops too! He picked it up from me and I love it and it's now a habit of his too.
I find it interesting that my two cats are bonded to me in their own different ways. Although I think my Maine Coon would be just as happy with someone else as long as they gave him food. He is totally food motivated. My little barn cat on the other hand....she completely trusts me to pet her anywhere. Never had a cat that loved belly rubs so much, plus leg and paw rubs.
same situation with my two! both are strays that adopted me, but one of them is all about the FOOD and wags his tail exactly like a dog (i think he was brought up around them). my other cat totally trusts me with petting her belly. great pets, glad you have some great ones too :)

I have a tabby who is most bonded to me. He’s a very quiet and anxious cat and he almost never purrs and only meows when hungry. A few months ago he purred for the first time in years while he’s smothering me with affection, drooling, heat butting and kneading, everything. I can’t express how happy and honoured I felt hearing his purrs. He never purred for anyone else.
I take care of 13 cats with my parents and 6 of them chose me as their human. Check on all these signs! 😅 I came here to learn more and now I'm also feeling even more loved than before.

I have five cats that are very well imprinted upon me. I have two super seniors 17 + 19 that are quite possessive of me but do share me with the rest of my brood. Three that are almost six years old that I hand raised from feral rescues probably were less than a week old when I took them in. They are all extremely bonded to me and definitely see me as momma. And they are my babies!!! New subscriber.

As a lifelong cat owner and avowed cat lady, here's a couple of things, if you don't mind the advice and wisdom. 1, read up on cat behavior, and let your cat be a cat. Don't expect him or her to act like a dog or do things like a dog, or to be like any other pet. They are wonderfully unique. 2. let your cat be him/herself. Cats are as distinctive in personality as people are! 3) don't expect your cat to behave when you're not in the room (or when your back is turned). 😂 If you don't want him/her messing with something, put it away when you're gone! This is in their nature. It can't be "punished" out of them. If you catch them in the act, react, and they will learn to stop and run away when you catch them in the future, but that's it. They do what they want. 😂 Accept that it's how they are, and you'll be a happier person. 😊 4) have patience and show love always. You will get so much love in return. And it will be because your cat CHOOSES you, not because it's in its nature like it is with dogs (I'm not bashing dogs--just using for comparison). Cats choose to accept and love you, and it makes your relationship so immensely special.

Watching this video as my cat is sitting on my lap where he (always) refuses to leave. We bonded instantly when we met in the pound when he was 5 months old. I said hello to him and he walked right up to me and started licking my nose. It was love at first sight for both of us. Now it's 14 years later and I still adore him. 😁😸

You know, I knew my cat loved me, but wow, didn’t think I’d actually have all 10 signs.
(She also looks out for my son, as if he were her own kitten. If he’s upset, or crying, she’s there. If he’s playing something neat, she’s right there with him. She also guards his door when he goes to bed, until he falls asleep, to make him feel safe - I’ve always said she doesn’t need to do that, that I can sit and listen for him, but she’s always given me a look, like, “Nah, Mum. I got this one. You go eat dinner, get ready for bed, go play. I’m watching him.” She very much co-mums him, and is happy to do so.
She sometimes will nip me in the upper arm, really hard, and I’ve always assumed it was anger about something I wasn’t doing right for her. Turns out that no, she’s telling me that something is wrong - not with her, but with me. Specifically, that my blood sugar is dangerously low, something I didn’t even know I had issues with until recently. So, yeah, my cat saved my life. Go Cookiedough! 😻

Wow my late kitty similarly took care of my daughter when she was little. She hung out with my daughter since my daughter was a baby, she let my daughter dress her up and baby clothes and would lie on my daughter's bed every night until my daughter fell asleep.

One of my cats was very fearful when I first got him. Very jumpy, skiddish.. I had to remind myself to walk slower, be patient, etc. Then, one day, he presented his belly to me while we were cuddling and I knew I had earned his trust and love. And that is such a good feeling! I love my kitties :)

Our sweetheart Nikolai came to us at 4 months old and it didn't take long for him to bond with us both. A loving sweetheart of a boy. I always had girl kitties and I didn't know if it would be different with a boy, but every cat is unique, right? We score 10 out of 10 with an added bonus. Niko always gives plenty of love when he's being served his food, he nudges and kisses even after the food is in his dish. I've never had a cat be so grateful for his food. He's not greedy or tubby, just sweet. Humans are so graced to have our pets with their unconditional love. I'm blessed and I know it!
Lost my cat of nearly 15 years last spring, so this was very bittersweet to watch. I noted the 10 things you listed and realised he did all of them. The last one made me laugh a bit. He brought me so many presents throughout his lifetime I lost count. Sometimes he would bring 2-3 a day, and he wouldn't just stop at the usual mouse or garden bird. He would go for pigeons and even gulls too. Even though I felt saddened thinking of him throughout the video, thank you for letting me realise how bonded my cat and I were. I always felt like I would be judged for saying we had a deep connection, and that he was like my shadow, because I think, as you pointed out, cats have this aloof stereotype.
I lost my wife around 4 years ago and about 3 years ago I found a kitten that was injured and very feral on my wife's memorial and he is such a beautiful cat but sadly only will allow me to pet or play with him he hisses at anyone who comes in the house but with me its a beautiful buddy.
My girl Layla shows all the imprint signs. The thing is, she shows all those signs to everyone. And I mean everyone. She even showers with love and attention seeking every random delivery person. As if she was raised by labradors.

I am so happy to say that my cat, Teddy, performs all of the t0 bonding attachments to me. She even meows at me loudly every day as she asks me to walk with her around the garden. Parts of the garden make her nervous but she will happily visit these places when she knows I have her back.
My cat would pick one , the greenest ficus leaf from my tree and place it exactly where I slept. Sit by it and stare at me. It's adorable. 😊

I’ve been a dog person my whole life but just recently we were adopted by two very persistent stray cats. The first one was pregnant so we brought her in and got her seen and took care of her and her two kittens until we found homes for the kittens when they were weaned off Momma. Luna picked me as her person and would even bring me her kittens. Skittles is a boy and we let him in around Christmas after deciding we would make it work for him. He was always at our doorstep. We already have two dogs and a toddler lol but the cats have blended in seamlessly. Skittles imprinted on my husband but both cats melt for my son and are so patient with him. My son has become a cat person and is obsessed with them ❤
Cats get an unfair shake. Their public perception isn't close to being accurate. Honestly, we have much more in common to cats than dogs in terms of our boundaries, food pickiness, and neediness.
Turns out Skittles is a girl!! We just got her and Luna spayed ❤️ learning!
Our latest rescue, Charlie, is highly responsive to perceived need for comfort. He shocked me once when I made a loud screech-wail sound at some gross food thing in another video. He thought I was in pain or something, and he jumped right onto me. He was purring loudly, giving me face mushies, pawing at my face, mewing, licking my nose and kneading on my torso all in the same split second he jumped on me. It was amazing to find that out about him, but I felt so bad for making him worry so much.
He also used to bring all of the kitty toys to my side of the bed and meow at me at night before he got used to his safe, new indoor life. He's such a sweetie and I'm so glad we're living up to his expectations. ♥
I will never forget the face of my cat when I left her at the vet to get the operation, it was a look of sorrow and disbelief that I still can see. Luckily she is well adapted, playful and goofy, she and her sister used to belong to a client of mine and I adopted them because he couldn't keep them, they were (and are) always treated with kindness and love and you can see that in the way they interact (or "intercat" if you prefer) with people, they are a bonded pair and I think they bonded with me❤❤❤
My cat and I weren't all that close but I learned she likes when I talk to her. She pays attention and I noticed she pays attention to my tone of voice. Since then she likes hanging out more :)
My old guy (rip) knew the sound of my car horn when I came home from school and never had his tail down. I have a beautiful Tabby girl who is currently kneading on me and just curled up so tightly next to me, purring like no tomorrow. Glad to know they love(d) me!!!
