      If its called right wing its called that. The dutch are going to have an opt out of leaving the EU. We have a so called right wing at power now. God bless the man.
      But he is more social then the previous parties and more honest. Opting for better health care for the poor. So to be honest. Everyone who is against the EU and immigration is called far right.
      Left wing people are often narcissistic and violent.

    • @peterfmodel
      @peterfmodel 5 месяцев назад +8

      Anyone who is not far left is considered as far right. The best metric to determine if you are far right, or far left for that matter, is their position concerning democracy and free speech. If they wish to reduce or restrict democracy or free speech you can say they are far right, or left. I don't see that being the case for most of the populist parties in Europe.

    • @j.e3651

      @@peterfmodel this is not necessarily true. We have 1 winning party in the Netherlands (NSC) who is obviously in the middle more leaning towards right. Same could be said about the biggest party. If its about immigration you could say they are extreme right but when it comes to social public services they are even more leaning towards the left then most stereotype "left wing" parties.
      The depictions by media are often incomplete, propagandous and overexaggerated.

    In my European country (and others), polls have shown that the traditional left / right ideological lines don't capture most people, who are a bit of both. People will vote for 'right wing' parties because they have the guts to speak out on immigration issues, but on a lot of economic and ecological issues they will be better represented by parties aligned on the left.
    The centre needs to get more creative. A candidate who leans left on economics, right on immigration, and centre on culture war issues arguably holds the future in their hands. But to ideological puritans they appear confused or hypocrital.

      The GDP per capita figures in the US is scewed heavily towards having a few billionaires while most people don’t make nearly as much as the GDP per capita figures. The median income is a better measurement. The average German or Frenchman don’t need to worry about going bankrupt if they become sick and they have better work-life balance with a lot of paid vacation days than Americans do. Unless you’re an entrepreneur or a highly skilled professional in healthcare or IT earning six figures, Germany or France is better for you to live in.

    If you believe in democracy, then you believe a legitimate election can include voting to change or even end the democracy. One of the reasons for German culpability presented in the trials was that the German people were voting for both communists as well as NSDAP to the legislature, such that over 50% of the legislature was committed to ending democracy by 1930. But that’s legitimate. That’s the result of voting in would have been widely declared pretty fair elections. Hence culpability for what follows.

    It isn't just the EU, but also NATO, that has been adversely affected by the institutional necessity for unanimous consent. That really needs to change in both organizations. The alternative is to expel contrarian, oppositional countries that do not reflect the values of the organization (looking at you Hungary and Turkey). In the case of NATO, since there is no provision for expelling a member, that might mean dissolving NATO and re-writing the charter in to a NATO2 that better works for the alliance. In the case of the EU, similar consideration should be given to expelling those member countries who toe the Kremlin line or changing the rules so that those countries cannot thwart the will of the vast majority or member countries.
