What a fantastically genuine, genuine man Ben is. He has some superb memories and stories that really should be recorded, You could write a book about all his adventures with his Dad. And he's very humble with it, but has had a childhood one could only dream about. This has to be the best video in Jimmy's World yet, and it was all about someone else! I like the fact that it wasn't a unit full of junk, with everything having bits missing or broken, but everything was complete and intact. I'm sure that film can still be developed, and what surprises are hidden there??? We need an update on that, for sure.
I am British and have lived in Poland for the last 30 years in a town called Pulawy which is very close to Deblin airforce pilot training airport. 51°32'37.6"N 21°54'09.7"E If you go to those reference points you can still see that they are using the same jets as in your video for training pilots to this day. After that they jump to the F-18s and later next year the F-35s which will be based at Deblin. 🛩🛩 My father-in-law is a farmer and on his land he has an old brickyard factory, which the communists torn down in the 1950s and the only thing left is a 60 metre tall chimney which the jets used to use as a reference point for land navigation. Anyway after a storm one year the top section of the chimney was leaning over by ten degrees and looked really dangerous, so my father-in-law being the safety-minded person he is went and got his tractor and some chains and pulled the chimney over to stop it hurting anyone. 🤦 The following weekend we were there for lunch and a load of airforce vehicles turned up and were banging on his door demanding to know who had screwed up their navigation reference point for their 2nd year trainee pilots who got lost a few days before that because they couldn't see the chimney. 😂 After a few threats of police involvement and lectures on civic responsibilities for the safety of the country they soon went muttering to themselves as they left - or maybe they heard the laughter of my brother-in-laws and myself in the backroom because believe me we couldn't contain ourselves and we had tears flowing down our faces through laughing so much. 😂😂 😂
A fuel story! My parents lived near Sydney (Australia) light aircraft airport, Bankstown (YSBK) and in his retirement my father would hang out at the Mobil fuel depot, helping out a bit. They 'paid' him with oil and fuel for his car: the leftovers/dregs of Mobil 1 synthetic oil from 200 litre drums, and 100 octane fuel drained off the filter system when the filters were changed. The car ran very well! And, our house had a heating furnace that used diesel fuel, but I'd 'buy' 200 litre drums of Jet A1 (again, drained from the filter system, and consolidated into drums around the depot.)
Fun Fact. These Hughes Helicopters were flown in 1976 and earlier by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department in a program called Sky Knight. My first helicopter ride was in one of these in 1968 as a 26 year old rookie detective out of East L.A. Station. The pilot sat on the left and I on the right. No controls on passenger side just a joy stick of sorts to control a large spot light. This first ride was a surprise as it was like being in an elevator and nothing to hang on to. Once I got used to flying in a bubble the whole city looked different at 1,000 feet. We used to joke about the fan belts being between the crew and eternity. We were all young once. Good times.

Jimmy and Ben, that was so good to see! That’s brought back a memory. Early 70s I was in the RAF, serving at RAF Kemble where the Red Arrows and 4 Sqn were based with the Folland Gnats. I recall the fuelling trucks refuelling themselves with the AVTUR used on the aircraft. At the time I didn’t know a diesel engine would run on jet fuel.
Once I found a old camera in a city opp shop, developed the BW film in it and it was of some kids on the front lawn of a house taken about 8 years before. Oddly I knew the family , and had taken some photos of the same kids on the same lawn years before!.!
There was a duel axle flatbed trailer, on its side, leaning against the side wall behind the jets! I wonder if that's the one the Mercedes pulled getting the Elvis engines? Great find Jimmy, really enjoyed this one!! The "MASH looking" chopper too!! 8) --gary
Mellow dude. With some great stories to tell. A highlight for me was the stars seen from on top of the wing in Roswell. Being a city dweller, I've never seen much in the way of stars. Best wishes to you Jimmy, as you turn your dreams into reality.
I still think you should have attached those big tanks to the wing roots on the Elvis jet. One per side of course. That would clean up the appearance and add two fuel cells!!
Just caught your latest video, I’ve been hoping I would see you flying 421KM. Thanks for the sneak shot. Hope to see more of 421KM in the near future/😮
As a boy growing up in Crystal River Fl back in 1970, I remember going with my father to an old hardware store in town where the old owner had boxes of old aviation hardware including the old tritium dials! I remember going to the darkest corner of the store and being amazed you could read them in the dark!!! Then, the feds came and collected them 😞 Oh well, great memories 🙂 Sure miss my dad...
It'd be really cool if you could turn the Elvis jet into a Bonneville racer with a jet engine on the back of it. Can't believe you found three of them. That's too cool.

If you buy another younger car of the same type that you already have and don't plan to use it so much anymore. why wouldn't you swap some things from one to the other?
I'm shocked by the 6 or 7 belts that are assigned to drive the rear compensator prop. As you can probably already tell I'm neither an engineer or a pilot. I'm just a backyard mechanic. I guess this must have worked for a time but why the 6-7 belts to drive something? I can only imagine the pressure to the PTO bearing here. Please expain this without being defensive. I just want to know. Thanks!
Thinking back to one of the videos on the Elvis jet when talking about what it would take to get it flying again...problem biggest was finding any engines for it...and in this video you not only found 3, but the actual ones that were in it....what are the chances? Well done Jimmy and all!
Hey Jimmy I have watched your videos from the very start and it is my favorite of all channels. Your son has really gotten to be an excellent videographer as well. In addition you and I are on the same page with our Faith and politics. 😂
I was going to ask about the helicopter but that question was answered right at the end.

You should get at least one of the engines to display with the Elvis jet. It's interesting he would make a comment about everything has been collected, hard to fine. He proof there is plenty of stuff out there to be found and collected. Many of the collectors of pre-60s stuff are getting old like his father and just need to be found and given the right offer to give it up.

In Scandinavia we get over 700hp out of the old 300 turbo diesels. The engine is practically bulletproof. It is used for dragrace and drifting.
The inline 5 engine? That’s incredible!
The OM616 and OM617 are awesome engines.
