Hey guys...I missed my own premiere live on the Tube today! I didn't realize the video would have an automatic live feature when released. I'll be on live tomorrow for the next premiere!!
If you go to 6:35 in the video you can see the 2 holes in the seat bottom that was flipped up. There are 3 sets across the flipped up bottoms. That’s where you’re suppose to be able to insert the headrests for storage. I’ve seen my salesman do it, but I never tried.
I realize video is old but wanted to note, if you have the premium sound, Toyota puts the sub woofer in the storage area behind passenger seat so way less storage because of that.
Hi, I’ve had mine since 2018 and just now learn about this. Was even thinking of removing the back seat for extra storage but now I won’t need to. Thank you 🙂
So the hooks in back i use to secure my dog mat and i put food bowl and water bowl in the back storage area so this way i get no hair or drool on my seats
In my 2010 the storage behind the seats is even more versatile than the 3rd gens. It has slots that you can put little shelves and such behind the seat. I love it and use the seat storage to the fullest
I have a 2004 Toyota Tacoma Prerunner , I wonder if that same seat setup will fit in my Toyota. Or do they make one that will do the same that will fit my Toyota , I like that set up better than what I have now. I carry a lot of tools that I need from time to time. I don't want to have to rely on a toolbox on my bed
And SOOO much better (and flatter) than the Ranger and Chevy. And when you consider all of the amazing mods available for all those spaces, it's such a great feature. I'm surprised how few reviewers point out that storage space.
I know this is a older video, but i just got my 2019 trd off road 2 days ago....i'm in love....i did notice though when folding down the seats and taking the headrests off.....at the top of the last setting it can swing down kind of like on a hinge...what is the reasoning for that?....i saw yours started to do that also right before you removed the head rests all the way
I was able to justify the shortbed because the Tacoma just has so much storage in the cab that I didn't need a toolbox (plus I can get a bed extender if I want more length).
Another video showed fitting the head rests into the back of the folded up seats. On my 2017 this works for the middle head rest but the holes provided for the two side head rests seem too small to accomdate the head rest prongs. Am I missing something?
One nice thing about the Tacoma is the rear locker on the OffRoad trims. It’s crazy how the tundra doesn’t have a locker on the TRD OffRoad or TRD Pro packages.
For people that never carry more than one passenger I highly recommend removing the rear seats altogether. It’s 8 bolts in total and 5 for the plastic bins behind them. It virtually doubles the usable volume in the cab, and the load floor is lowered significantly so loading heavy things is easier. For people that use the taco for work this is an alternative to a bed cap for storing a lot of small to medium sized tools, and you’ll have the open bed left for material. It’s easy enough to also build a plywood load floor and back to have a huge 36” wide flat load area (without restricting front seat movement). Goose gear also sells these panels with a durable bedliner type finish, more storage compartments, and tie down points. This is what I have done to my truck and I highly recommend for people that never use the rear sets
lots of room, i have an old sport trac and has some room in the back behing the seats, also filp down seats but are cloth, and have some room under the seat but doesnt have them locking plastic boxes yet i find mine better that are open and access through undeneath or the sides since i always have 2kids seats and would be a pain to take them out especially with kids just to access those boxes in the tacoma, on the sport tac o can access without moving the seats , i store emergency tool bag, fire extiguesher. wish the bottom seats would fold up but are anchored to floor oh well, still would rather have tacoma truck much better and long lasting. great video
Tacoma storage is way better than the Tundra. Tundra crewmax has the worst storage of any truck on the market. I wish toyota did not put the storage bin in the back seat and just left the area open for more storage. The bin takes up a lot of space under the seat.
Please do a video for dog owners ! I need to find out how to use a back seat cover ( for dogs) when I don’t use my headrests ! They traditionally hook over headrests but I don’t want to use mine bc of the rear view !
If you don’t count the Ridgeline. Ridgeline has much better storage and the seats fold up in the back and leave a flat floor. Also, you don’t have to remove the headrests, which is just silly.
Great video Rob. I have an 07 Sport and hadn't really even explored the possibilities of storage to the extent you did. Thanks for making me love my Tacoma even more. I had an 03 Tundra and you are correct about the total lack of storage. Thanks again.
Hey Garner! I missed it too. It's a new premiere feature on RUclips and I didn't realize it would automatically go live!! I'm gonna try it again tomorrow!!
I have a 2012 tack and I can’t fit much in the back of the seats! Or under that is actually practical. Can’t even fit my new rockford 12” speaker box. Annnnd it gets stuck in sand! I love Tacoma’s. I will buy another but let’s remember, it’s smallll. Do t exaggerate the “small space. It’s not “deep” 2012 is the same set up except the seats do t fully lay down .Shit!
This is similar to the setup I had on my 2nd gen Crewmax Tundra. Much better than the 2014 and up 3rd gen. Rather have fold down seats as opposed to flip up seats, don't know who came up with that bonehead design change. The 2014 "refresh" killed my desire to purchase a new Crewmax Tundra. Maybe they'll figure it out for the 4th gen, but they've got a whole lot of work to do on the Tundras (mostly interior) as a whole to lure me back.
Nice back seat for an amputee with no legs! Obviously you didn’t look into the Tundra DoubleCab! And if you need safe storage for your gun, there’s a vault for the console. You know me… the man with the contradictions! But factual!
The back seat are is small for sure. Only for very small kids! The double cab was still too big for my needs. (I actually do like the looks of the double cab better than the Crew cab TBH!!)
RobMotive I’d beg to differ. Both can tow a small trailer, but rarely does one see that. I have both at disposal with Tacoma being new 2021. It has 3000 miles and I’m selling it, the seating hurts my back on any drive over half hour.
It was meant to be humorous…in that a tractor trailer had more storage than a Tacoma too. Since Honda focuses on storage and the Tacoma does not, they are two different animals. Additionally, I would term the Ridgeline as an SUV with a bed. Nothing wrong with it..just not in the same class IMO👍
RobMotive I’m serious about the new Tacoma. I’d buy a seat from a wreck if one was made with more adjustability. It’s a nice looking, sure to be reliable truck but it is horribly uncomfortable. From my research I can’t find a seat with adjustment, up and down would do the trick I think.
Rob when you pull the bottom seat forward there is two holes to put your head rest in.
Yup. I’ve discovered that👍

That’s awesome! I did not know that👍
How? The middle head rest fits but the other 2 dont seem to fit in those holes... at least not with mine.
They all fit. Just takes a little patience to figure out how the first time👍
About to move up to college & a new Tacoma with me. So glad I found this!
Awesome! 👍👍
I realize video is old but wanted to note, if you have the premium sound, Toyota puts the sub woofer in the storage area behind passenger seat so way less storage because of that.
I’ve had mine for a year and a half and just now learned I can fold the back seats down flat. Great video!
Lol! Always surprises!!👍
Hi, I’ve had mine since 2018 and just now learn about this. Was even thinking of removing the back seat for extra storage but now I won’t need to. Thank you 🙂
Glad to help👍
Underneath each seat there are a set of holes you can set the head rest in those slots.
Yup. Great place to store them👍
So the hooks in back i use to secure my dog mat and i put food bowl and water bowl in the back storage area so this way i get no hair or drool on my seats

I don’t think it would fit in your truck, but I’m sure there are other options out there🤔
Thanks!
And SOOO much better (and flatter) than the Ranger and Chevy. And when you consider all of the amazing mods available for all those spaces, it's such a great feature. I'm surprised how few reviewers point out that storage space.
Couldn't agree more!👍
Do you have some examples for mods? just curious
I know this is a older video, but i just got my 2019 trd off road 2 days ago....i'm in love....i did notice though when folding down the seats and taking the headrests off.....at the top of the last setting it can swing down kind of like on a hinge...what is the reasoning for that?....i saw yours started to do that also right before you removed the head rests all the way
Hey Frank. I believe it’s strictly to increase visibility out the back. I keep mine in that position often👍
I was able to justify the shortbed because the Tacoma just has so much storage in the cab that I didn't need a toolbox (plus I can get a bed extender if I want more length).
Love the storage in the Tacoma. Lots of places to put stuff!!👍
Another video showed fitting the head rests into the back of the folded up seats. On my 2017 this works for the middle head rest but the holes provided for the two side head rests seem too small to accomdate the head rest prongs. Am I missing something?
It seems that way, but you have to push a bit hard to insert them. Also have to put them in the right way👍
One nice thing about the Tacoma is the rear locker on the OffRoad trims. It’s crazy how the tundra doesn’t have a locker on the TRD OffRoad or TRD Pro packages.
Yup. Not sure why🤔
Junk considering it's only usable in 4 low.

This is what I have done to my truck and I highly recommend for people that never use the rear sets
Hmm…Interesting 🤔
Can a 1 gallon paint can fit in that little nook place behind the seat up against the back wall?
It would be tight...just don’t fill it to the brim and you can squeeze it in there👍
I will finally choose tacoma, thanks to this video. Good Job!!!
Thanks Efrain. The Tacoma is an awesome truck! Thanks for watching 👍
The seat has 6 holes to put the head rests on when you put the seat down
Would love to see them add floor storage as well like the rams have!
They could, but I’d be surprised if they did😬
the floor storage are those bins were he said you could put a rifle and gun
Great options for a range truck just what I’m looking for thinking of trading my high mileage FJ for one of these. This is also the 2018 models?
Yup👍
But can you lay down in the back with it folded down
If you bent your legs👍
lots of room, i have an old sport trac and has some room in the back behing the seats, also filp down seats but are cloth, and have some room under the seat but doesnt have them locking plastic boxes yet i find mine better that are open and access through undeneath or the sides since i always have 2kids seats and would be a pain to take them out especially with kids just to access those boxes in the tacoma, on the sport tac o can access without moving the seats , i store emergency tool bag, fire extiguesher. wish the bottom seats would fold up but are anchored to floor oh well, still would rather have tacoma truck much better and long lasting. great video
What kind of fuel milage do you get with the after market tires? It also appears your tacoma is lifted...
I’m getting 17-18 mpg now. It was lifted👍
Do you know if there are any aftermarket doors for these under the seat storage compartments preferably with a lock of some sort
I don’t know...but I think you could put a lock on them if you wanted👍
You can remove all the plastic under and behind the rear seats and raw-dog it to get greater volume.
Lol! I bet so👍
Would like to see a tape measure and some specs
Not sure I understand 🤔
@@RobMotive I would like to know depth from back wall to back of front seats
Not sure what you mean? That measurement varies🤔
@@RobMotive oh boy
You didn’t show the built in headrest holders. 👍
I have a couple of times in previous videos👍
I wonder why Toyota put a lot of thought in the Tacoma storage and not on the Tundra?
It’s really strange. They had it prior to the current model and took it away? I’d love to know the rationale behind that decision 🤔
I carry my Glock always!!!
I need to get a console safe for my Tacoma. I carry a Sig P226👍
Don't have to have concealed carry to carry gun in console or under seat for pistols unless you live in one of those 2a constitution breaking states
Tacoma storage is way better than the Tundra. Tundra crewmax has the worst storage of any truck on the market. I wish toyota did not put the storage bin in the back seat and just left the area open for more storage. The bin takes up a lot of space under the seat.

Great suggestion!! I have an idea for that👍👍
There is a way you can lay down the back rest in back seat.
If you don’t count the Ridgeline. Ridgeline has much better storage and the seats fold up in the back and leave a flat floor. Also, you don’t have to remove the headrests, which is just silly.
True! The Ridgeline had TONS of storage!! 👍
Dont forget about the 13 cup holders either lmao
Gotta have places for those cold beverages!!👍
@@williamoftexas1489 doors as well lol
Where's the Jack and tools at? Under the seat?
Dude...you have to watch the whole video :)
@@RobMotive this video or first video I guess I was asleep when you talked about it. I watched the whole video
Both👍
Thank you for pointing out all these storage options.
Thanks for watching 👍
My 2001 tundra had great storage.
Great video
LOL, You've come a long way on your videos
Indeed!!👍
Very helpful video, thank you.
Thanks for watching 👍
Great video Rob. I have an 07 Sport and hadn't really even explored the possibilities of storage to the extent you did. Thanks for making me love my Tacoma even more. I had an 03 Tundra and you are correct about the total lack of storage. Thanks again.
I love all of the storage in the Tacoma. Plenty of places to out stuff👍. Thanks for watching.
Buy an adjustable bottle jack
Definitely need something that can extend higher👍
That is really nice storage area.
Yup. Lots of places to put stuff!!
Stuff!!!!!
STUFF!!!😁
Cool video, left alike, new supporter here.
Thanks. I’ll check out your channel as well👍
Rob I missed you going live because I was vacuuming my house
Hey Garner! I missed it too. It's a new premiere feature on RUclips and I didn't realize it would automatically go live!! I'm gonna try it again tomorrow!!
And then there’s the 2007-2013 tundra crew cab that have absolutely no storage. I hate how toyota made the crew cab tundras
It’s lacking storage for legs lol
You have to sit with your legs crossed! 😆
You got a like and subscribe from me because you said under the seat would be a great place for a rifle. Love it
👍👍. Thanks

I agree. While I didn’t have the storage in my Tundra, I did in the Rebel. Not sure why anyone would think it was a good idea to eliminate it🤔
There is definitely not more room in there than the Tundra....
Absolutely not😬
Oh boy, the new Ford Ranger is coming out soon. Time to trade in the Tacoma?
No way. I had a Ranger many moons ago...very pedestrian. I’m sure it will be similar this time too🤔
The Tacoma is king of the Mid Sized! All though I do have a spot in my heart for the Colorado Zr2.
Yup....100% agree👍
Nice back seat for an amputee with no legs! Obviously you didn’t look into the Tundra DoubleCab!

Nor a tractor trailer! Different animals👍

Sounds like the Tacoma just isn’t for you. If you can’t get comfortable with the 10-way adjustable seat then there’s no hope😐
Ram has the most storage
Yep and from my experience you utilize it all with how many parts you need to fix it constantly!
