Exploring Buffalo's Silver Select Edition: Confection Street Delights

- I seriously could not wait to see how the Buffalo Silver Select Edition sets compared to the basic collection. Thanks to my puzzle pal, Kristy, I was able to work on this beautiful 1000 pieces set called Confection Street. As always, we predict, unbox, and go about completing this beautiful image. I go over my plans and strategies, and throw in a few tips here and there. Then we talk about if the overall puzzling experience is any different compared to the basic Buffalo collection. Is it worth the few extra dollars???

The horizontal texture you are seeing/using to orient the pieces is actually the weave of the canvas that you are seeing where the paint wasn't as thick. I always appreciate it when I see that because it indicates it was a good quality scan of the original painting!

Took the words right out of my mouth! Yep you won't see these lines on a photo puzzle but you will often see them on paintings.
I love the musical sound the reclosable bag makes when you move the slider! I hope they all sound that way!
🤣The first time I opened that bag during the unboxing, that sound literally played in my head. I was so happy that I figured out how to add in what I actually experienced/felt during that scene.
Your videos are becoming more informative but you trips through the puzzles are the highlight lol.

Oooh so cool I did this puzzle in a 500 count a couple months ago (borrowed so don’t have anymore) it was just in a regular box but definitely super fun. Not sure if you have tried/heard of the Blanc puzzles by Buffalo. The pieces feel more plasticky/ foamy , so satisfying…puzzle comes in fancy box with magnetic side closure & comes with the resealable bag. I was really hoping the silver edition ones would be the same but now I know it’s just a fancier box so thanks so much for the review. (The Blanc brand they have at target and Amazon in case you want to check out… the rainbow hamburger is my favourite) keep up the great videos!

I really enjoyed putting this image together, it's so beautiful. I was recently told about the Blanc collection, and should be receiving one in the mail soon. I'm really looking forward to seeing what those are like! My Target sucks, but I'll be on the super lookout for them. Hopefully they've stocked up some good stuff already.

What's a bit confusing is how if one does a search on Amazon under 'toys and games' for "silver select" not only do the Buffalo games versions come up but so do ones from Ceaco. They all seem to have the common trait of 1000 pieces and are really good pictures. I personally look for 750 ones as they fit my puzzling space just right. Cool channel and vid, I had no idea this genera existed on YT, good to know, perhaps I should upload a video in my puzzle vault. :)
Yes, Ceaco was bought by Buffalo, and seem to also be turning a number of Ceaco images into Silver Selects. I'm planning to work on a Ceaco Silver Select and see what the differences are at some point. As of right now, I think they are only producing the Silver Selects in 1k sets, as I haven't seen any other puzzle counts.

It's definitely great that they didn't end up charging too much extra for the extra touches. I would definitely pay a couple dollars extra especially if it's an image I can't refuse.
Hello, I know you did this puzzle 5 months ago. I got it and almost finished. Love the puzzle but I'm stuck on the trees 😢 love your channel. 🎉

Yay! I’m glad you got to do it! I haven’t opened up any of my silver selects yet because I was waiting for you first 😉. It does appear you are paying like 2 bucks more for the pretty packaging and the resealable bag(which I originally thought) which I’m ok with! I keep my collectible puzzles and these boxes are so beautiful to display! I currently have the Maleficent box on display and the Labor Day Charles Wysocki box (fall vibes!) on display. Buffalo does have that little bit of gloss to them but they are still up there in my top three fave brands because of the artists they use, the images being so vibrant and clear, the affordability and the availability! I’m super interested to hear your thoughts and experience you have with the Ceaco silver selects (I’m sure it’s just paying for the packaging again) but I’ve heard that the newer Ceaco releases quality has been better since being bought out by Buffalo. Looking forward to it. 😊
Your puzzle display is beautiful, so these boxes would of course add to its amazingness. But yes, you're only paying extra for the box and the bag, which is not too bad really especially if it's an image you can't refuse. Buffalo is still up there for me too in terms of overall quality/value. I'm pretty sure I'll be opening up that Ceaco very soon. I'm in a rut right now where there's so much I want to work on, but I don't know where to start, so I haven't started anything yet 😂I really need to get busy puzzling and editing.
I agree that the newer Ceaco releases have much improved quality. I have some of the Night Spirit series puzzles with the mysterious mystical cats.
I'm getting frustrated with the trees 🌴🌴🌴 . Not sure how to fix it? I oñly have 25 tree pieces and tried shape.

I got one of the Ceaco Silver Selects (Summer In Cobblestone Village, by Thomas Kinkade). Beautiful image, and love the packaging, but I didn't like the glossy finish of the pieces, and had a lot of false fits when putting it together.
I have a few Ceaco Silver Selects at this point. Still need to get into them. Probably should plan to review one very soon.
I did this image in a regular Buffalo set...like you I enjoy Charles Wysocki.. I have purchased Maleficent in the Silver Edition, which Im looking forward to completing. yes I loved the box and the resealable bag. I did not see much difference in the quality of the pieces either the price of the standard Buffalo and the silver edition was about the same..so yes it is worth getting the silver edition with new images., a great box and the great bag.. .. enjoy!!!
I'm so glad you were able to find Maleficent. I think I'll be opening that set very soon as I really want to see if there's any differences with the pieces, at least I hope there is some kind of difference. Either way, the box and bag are a very nice touch.
Regarding using lines on the pieces to tell which direction they go…. I sometimes do this with the back of the pieces. White Mountain is one brand that uses backing that definitely has a grain that lets you see which direction the piece goes.

does it really?? i’m working on a white mountain right now called tidal pool and i have the purple part of the sky and basically all of the water still to do. that would help so much
I bought the Silver Select edition, "Mickey's Carnival". It looks great. I have to agree with you, the pieces look the same quality to me, but I love the new and improved packaging, and the reusable bag. I got a really good value for $14.99 plus tax.
That Disney image of yours is too much fun, I love it! The packaging is great really, and the price is not all that bad for the couple extras you get. Buffalo is still a great brand overall.

I haven’t done one from this series but buffalo games is my favorite brand- excellent quality, lower cost, easily accessible, some really nice images, and those handful of random quirky pieces that makes you know who made it. i also haven’t had the dusty experience another comment mentioned. maybe i’m too focused on the crazy amount of puzzle dust in ravensburger puzzles.
i did recently purchase an image by a brand called brain tree that came with a reuasable bag. (yet it was lying flat in the box, while the pieces were in a separate bag? 🤔) seems like a quality puzzle but it will probably be next year before i get to it.
Buffalo really is such a great value, and is also one of my top favorite brands. And the dust will never compare to Ravensburger sets 😂 I'm going to have to look up Brain Tree, thank you for mentioning it! But yea, what's the deal with not just putting the pieces in the resealable bag instead of a separate bag 🤔I know another brand does that but I can't remember which one.
Hmmm. I was thinking the silver edition would have some silver highlights in the picture itself. Since I give away my puzzles when I’m finished, the box is not important to me. So, somewhat disappointing. I might buy one of these because I like Wysocki, but only if the picture is nicer than other Buffalo pictures. Thank you, for showing this product. I'm glad this review gave you something to think about 👌Honestly, unless you're looking to display your boxes, then there really is no other reason to pick up one of these sets. That's really all you're paying for along with the resealable bag.
That puzzle seems to fit perfectly with the season, ie. the trees are like it is autumn and you guys are in autumn, so that was a nice match. Seeing the finished puzzle to me looked better than the picture...maybe cos it was bigger and easier for me to see......these laptop screens I am currently using are small compared to my previous 32" PC screen.
Have you googled the difference between the silver and standard set, out of curiosity, Mandy?

You're absolutely right. Funny, I didn't realize that it could match with the autumn theme😂 In terms of the differences in Google, I thought maybe one was that the Silver Selects were made with premium recycled boards, but the basic sets say premium materials as well. So I don't think there is a difference aside from the packaging.

@@thepuzzledmandy Autumn is a lovely season though with the leaves and all :-) Still, nice puzzle all the same.....I liked the different shops and agreed with you, going from one to the other. Bugger re the packaging only. The doctor rang me this morning and has given me an extra week at home till next week Friday, which is what I wanted, so enjoying the rest and time off. Still tender from the surgery yet much better than before. 3 days after surgery, I turned 55 so was a nice way to spend my birthday lol A few days later, my ex-wife came down for a couple of days for different reasons as she lives in a town 500km away and helped me with housework etc, and my Mrs is ok with that. She knows my ex-wife and I are good friends. One doesn't hear that often hehehe

I have this exact puzzle as a 300 piece so it looks like they rereleased an older puzzle in a new fancier box.
Interesting! Now I wonder if this image was also released as a 1000 count in the past as well. I also wonder if they are choosing certain images based on popularity.
there didn't seem to be any dust, i've opened some incredibly dusty "standard" buffalos in the past
There certainly wasn't enough or any dust for me to complain about 😂. I guess it just really depends and if you're lucky enough to not get a dusty set.
