I'm watching from Northern Europe right now, and where I am, all our Galaxy S1's had the good ol' home button. I guess your US carriers went a bit crazy with Samsung products.
Att world phone refers to the phone being able to use 3g in all countries via international gsm and hsdpa roaming, unlike other carriers phones in the us which usually did not support operating fully outside the us. Att had deals with European and Latin American carriers for full international roaming including data, and it was a big att selling point.
The Galaxy S Plus was my first smartphone. I had a Nokia x3-02 Touch and Type before, and a buddy persuaded me to get this phone from his father, because his father couldn't stand it and went back to his old Nokia. He wanted to sell it. I paid $90 for a unlocked phone which had only been used three times before! I loved this phone so much. It got a lot of scratches, rested two days in a container full of rice because it fell into the bathtub, spent a night in the mud in 37°F during a festival, got lost at a supermarket and I got it back two days later... So many memories with this phone! It was always reliable, but after three years it felt too slow, so a newer phone was bought. I sold it for $30, and I regret that decision today, should've kept it just for the memories.
Samsung galaxy S1. Dude you know what’s crazy? Is that that The Samsung galaxy S, like phone, dude it is still massive. Yeah. MASSIVE. I mean I’m seeing new ones that I’ve never seen before that have millions of sales and reviews in 240p, still, that are popping up all over the place. You know what else is crazy? Like how, all the other Galaxy s1's he’s made since, I’ve seen a couple others show up on my stores, you would think they would all be doing better than they are. You said there have been a couple that have been doing great. No they’re all doing massive. It’s just- no, there’s a few that aren’t and you’re just like how, how can a guy get that selling the same phone like an NFT for this many weeks, and not just be famous forever. You know what I mean? I mean he’s already a good artist, I love his music and he’s dropping a new Samsung phone, I think actually it’s already out, gotta check it out. So at the end of 2009 there was a bunch of bad android phones going around that were the phones of the month throughout the year, right, and I think that for the phones of 2010 the galaxy S1 is 100% going to be the phone of January this year.
I rooted my S1 vibrant and doubled the speed to 2ghz 😂 also installed MIUI rom which was updated nightly for bugs ( now known as Xiaomi) I spent days modifying and tinkering with it, my S1 was probably my favorite phone. The modding community was huge when bootloaders were unlocked back in the day 😢
I rooted my S2 and tried overclocking it and instantly cooked the CPU by overvoltaging it, it made a little "tic" sound when I rebooted it after applying the overclock settings and that was the end of it....
Mine was the captivate. But my favorite was the note 2. The deep level is system wide customizing with the custom roms was amazing. And for me the modified and trimmed touchwiz roms with kernels on the note 2 was epic
@@jackskellington6sic6 100% that was my first note experience and I have to agree it was epic, was the first time of having a literal mini PC in your pocket with Samsung coming with their split screen feature. @stankozniewski9385 yes I remember the light saber sounds! There was a really cool umbrella Corp theme then too that changed the loading icon, battery, and signal. Plus changing the system menu backgrounds, choosing colors, setting custom boot animations and audio. The improved performance. And like you said the hardware and even stock features then were just untouched. .... not to mention... Google searches used to work back then too
In 2013 to 14 I worked as technician at a Samsung service center in India and I got many opportunities to dissemble and repair many devices. But I don't remember 4button navigation in a Samsung Android device.
Back then the good ol' hardware home button was a staple identifying feature of samsung that would allow them to embed a fingerprint sensor later on. This version was only available in US. US had several samsung phones without hardware home button but only capacitive buttons.
Hey fun fact I think Stiles in Teen Wolf used this phone for at least an episode as it was prominently featured and I remember desperately looking it up to find out what phone model it was. Bad marketing imo since it was a main character’s phone & obv an AT&T branded device but they never advertised it during the show, even during commercials 😂
it was called the world phone because back then if you went out of the country you needed another phone that serviced GSM networks in other countries. the S1 was setup with the ability to swap between other networks world wide without get a new device, you just changed Sims per networks

I use it as multimedia player and a handheld gaming emulator for old games like NES, SNES, Gameboy, GBA, Turbo Grafx, PS1, PSP etc. It works like a charm but the battery gets drained quickly if I play 3D games I could get about 2 hours max on 3D games and more if I play 2D games. It could also still connect to the internet but it's really slow af, highly recommend you buy one if you want a small on the go extra device for gaming and listening to music.

I know that version, I had an S Plus (i9001) and this is the i9010, in Germany/Europe it was labelled as "Armani" and on the front it had no "Samsung" branding and "Giorgio Armani" above the screen (instead of AT&T) and on the back only "Samsung", no "Galaxy S". Samsung has partnered with Armani before that, the SGH-P520 released in late 2007 was Armani-branded and also the M7500 (but "Emporio Armani"). LG partnered with Prada in the late 2000s, Asus with Lamborghini and Acer with Ferrari. Porsche Design had their own feature phones and for smartphones they partnered with Blackberry, then Huawei and nowadays with Honor. It's quite an interesting topic with some premium/luxury brands getting into new product categories they're rather unfamiliar with like some car-branded bicycles (some like Peugeot have a long tradition but on many others it feels like they've put something together and just slapped their badge onto it with a hefty price tag). The i9003 was the downgraded version, it had an LCD instead of an AMOLED screen, I remember that the competitor HTC Desire initially came with an AMOLED screen and in late Summer of 2010 they switched to LCD panels, test reports from that time said the quality was equal, but I'm pretty sure the contrast ratio is an obvious downgrade from AMOLED to LCD...

Thank you I'm pretty sure my dad had this phone and passed it down to me back in the day mine was the galaxy captivate i think either way brought back so many memories
I had the 9003 version, good phone, my dad got it. He didn't care about the display, the 9000 was more expensive too so.. he saved some money and I was happy anyway :)
i had same body samsung but it was samsung galaxy wave 1 and wave 2 both are nostalgia for me rn ❤
A few days ago I got 2 Samsung phones for 10 bucks from the flea market. The first one is a white Samsung Galaxy s3 in mint condition but the internal power button needs repair. The second one is a Samsung Grand neo white colour it works like new and it’s in good condition. I’m going to install a custom rom on it.
My brain 🧠 is melting 🫠 rn... You couldn't find the home button? I.... Uh... Erruhmm... 🙃 0:33
