I live in Tennessee and when Conway died there were signs everywhere down the highway simply saying Goodbye Darlin'😢💔 I had the honor of meeting Conway in 1974 when I lived in Nashville. He was so down to earth. He loved wearing old jeans and t-shirts with Twitty Bird written on them. He was a great singer and even better person.

I had the joy of meeting him twice...and twice he sang my favorite song to me. First when I was 4, he was walking through the audience and he passed us several times. Every time, I was singing along and knew every word. He was impressed and stopped to talk to me. He asked my grandpa and I to join him on stage and sang Tight Fittin' Jeans to me. 8 years later, I met him again before a show. He remembered us and what song he sang to me. He arranged for us to sit in the front row. When he came to Tight Fittin Jeans, he called me up on stage again. He was such a kind and thoughtful person from the time that I spent with him (several hours after each show just enjoying each other's company) and I miss him and his talent greatly.

Conway Twitty was an American country music singer who also had success in the rock & roll, R&B & pop genres in the 50's-90's. He has won numerous awards for his music & performed with some of the biggest stars. He had a lot of great duets with Loretta Lynn ("After the Fire Is Gone", "Lead Me On", "Louisiana Woman, Mississippi Man", "As Soon As I Hang Up The Phone", "Feelins'", "I Still Believe In Waltzes", "I Can't Love You Enough"). One of his biggest solo hits was in 1958 with "It's Only Make Believe". Other songs he recorded were "Danny Boy", "Lonely Blue Boy", "Next In Line", "You've Never Been This Far Before", "Don't Take It Away", "I May Never Get To Heaven" & many more.

One of my favorite country songs ever, and he delivers it so well, and he allows some of that vocal fry to creep into his voice at just the right time. I've also seen him do this live and he's just as good at it.
And yeah that steel guitar weeping away in the background just kills it. I really like these slow country waltzes because it gives these really talented singers the freedom to show off their flow. George Jones was another one like this and really it's kind of a staple of older Country but it's a real art. Tammy Wynette I would include in there as well right off the top of my head.
Where are you phrase off the beat and then at some point bring it all back together. The whole point is just to create this emotional vibe so you're not just reciting lyrics, you're making them incredibly heartfelt, and yet the delivery is always just a little bit unpredictable until suddenly it all makes perfect sense. I love that kind of thing and Conway Twitty does it all over the place on this song.

  • @tommyboles6561

Don't know if anyone has commented on this bit of trivia, but Conway's real name is Harold Jenkins. It's said when he picked his stage name he was looking at a map and saw the towns of Conway Arkansas, and Twitty Texas. I don't know if that's true, but it's what I've always heard. I can tell by listening that that was not the original recording ,but it was Conway,so it was still good. I enjoy your channel . Oh......by the way ,I like the new look B J. Asia , always gorgeous. Thank you for the reaction.

I'm 36 years old and each time I hear this song and hear Conway Twitty say "Hello Darlin", I just melt into a pile of goo.
I wish my hubby called me that.
He usually calls me "Baby", "Sweetie" "Roo" or "my bride".
Which I must admit I really like it when he calls me his bride still after 18 years of being together. It's his way of saying he still sees me and loves me just as he did the day he married me but that his love has only grown since then.
So if I can't have "Hello Darlin".
I'm content with just be his bride and baby. ❤️
It's crazy how much time has flown by.
I remember when I first met him and I was 15 and he 22.
But we were co workers and friends for over 2 years before we ever became a couple when I was 2 months shy of my 18th birthday and he was 25.
We secretly had fallin inlove with one another during that past year but neither of us made a move.
He respected me and he wanted to wait to confess his love until I turned 18.
But it's actually very common among many people I know here in the south for the girls to marry young and their husband's are sometimes 4, 5,6 or 7 years older.
Alot of them I know married at 17 or 18.
My mother was a good judge of character and I was not like other teens bevause I grew up so fast. So I didn't even like boys my age because they were so immature. And I was in the mindset of looking for a lasting relationship.
I didn't want to waist my time on any spring fancy.
I was never the type to want to sow any wild oats.
I wanted a man who was past all that and settled and ready for a wife.
But that didn't mean I was actively seeking that in my guy friend at the time.
I just sort of fell inlobe with him over the time I got to know him until it finally hit me one day. But I never voiced my feelings because I didn't think he felt the same way and I didn't want to hurt our friendship.
But my mother could tell we were secretly inlove so she being the loving mother she was intervened on my behalf and she spoke to him and told him she trusted him to respect snd take care of me and be a gentleman. She could tell he loved me.
My mother already treated me as an adult because for years I was there for her and my Gran during the times their health was bad and I nursed them and helped them and worked odd jobs to help out.
Even saved up my own money to buy ny own car at 16.
So mama saw me as an adult early on because I was so responsible and never once had I ever broken her trust.
So she gave him her blessing to date me and we have been together ever since.
We got married when I was 4 months shy of turning 20.
And our 7 year age difference never once was an issue or a problem and not one person ever thought our age difference was a problem.
Everybody was so supportive and said we were a match made in heaven.
So as far as I'm concerned age is just a number.
But I do realize some teens are too immature for such a relationship.
But I had several close friends marry at 17 and 18 years old and their hubbys was 3 or 4 years older and they are still happily married today.
