I think this guy nailed me! I was in NYC 6 years ago with my wife, walking around in some comfortable half-old black sneakers---and suddenly from 30 feet away in midtown he yells, "Hey Rockport! I know you can do better than THEM shoes, brother...." And "Rockport" is uncanny because I'm from Massachusetts. Wonderful guy! He's much funnier "live," too!
I love that he's a trained accountant and pastry chef, but now shines shoes. It's all about the happiness and joy you get out of life, not the paycheck. As long as you can sustain yourself and your family if you have one, then do what you makes you happy.
This man is more than a shoe shiner. With the way he runs his business is like a salesman and his tactics work. Pointing out an insecurity you can easily fix has been a sales tactic that almost always work because people care about themselves. Even the ones that don’t, they want to impress someone that isn’t them. So this man is a genius
Good video!! I wonder what happened to Don Ward? I really want his shoe shine! I went to find him and everyone said they haven't seen him since the pandemic started.
The key to corner selling is not having any insecurities about what you are saying. When Don makes a calculated little jab at potential customers, he is fully committed to what hes saying without hesitation or tension. That allows him to have somewhat of a comedic approach which takes people's guard down and gets them in the chair. The host had so much hesitation built into his body language and tone. People can smell a slimy salesman from a mile away- and they smell awful 😂
This guy got the perfect recipe for success. Perfect demographic(busy streets, mostly business people), perfect/related product/service + master salestalk. Demographics(+demand),product(+supply and usefulness), salestalk.
I see in this guy Something that was in his ancestors; what made them survive all them years of hardship. It’s just beautiful. A beautiful thing of never giving up.
David Chappell!?!?😅Nope! I think Don is actually quite witty and it takes alot of bravery to get people to come to him. These are key ingredients in stand up! I wonder how he would do if he tried.🤔
"You can't stand here and wait for volunteers, this ain't the kind of business" "Today, we are his trainees, so he put us on the street to give it a try" "GET YOUR SHOES SHINED!" *Guy runs up "Hey I could really use a shoe shine, mind if I hop on the chair?" *Trainee skeptically pans his head towards master salesman
Im curious how he handles more than one person at the same time. Does he make the other wait? Switch to the other shoe from time to time...either way he is someone id lile to be some day.
I'm guessing his "shoe sale game" is so on point, it's just small improvements by now. So maybe he could make bigger improvements by looking at other aspects that isn't as refined. Ex he could upgrade his sitting setup, making it look more pristine and high class to attract these business class customers. Matching the customers so to speak. Anyway, cool guy!
Haaaa hilarious dont be uptight cause I dont do white. He reminds me of Dave Chappelle specifically on his approach and comedy mix to generate sales brilliant strategy. No wonder hes the best
Just came here from the 2013 interview, I'm glad their is a follow up... glad to see he's still doing what he loves! What a character... time for a reality show? lol jk
One can not be surprised how he conducts himself.. I seen a video where he wasn’t around other people and explained why working on the street was better the amongst co workers etc etc. But this man encompasses all the characters defects that you would run into in a office type job. I believe have a positive productive outlook in a professional manner would greatly increase his bottom line- throwing insults at people as they walk buy isn’t in my opinion a great strategy to earn people’s trust money or time. “Attitude directly effects your altitude”
i would've gone for this line ''can you hear the clocks chime, it's time for a shoe shine'' or ''can you hear the clocks chime, it's shoe shining time''
Just Greatttttttt,,,,, bringing back ""back in the 70s,,,,when My Dad was always up there in them chairs,,,,kinda makes you feel like a King (or Queen, once you sit down) l wanna get mine done,,,,, have to buy some loafers first 👍💙♥️
It's his personality that's a winner for me.
God bless him
Yo when the dude heard don't let the Mrs. see those he jumped in the chair immediately.
Giovanni Williams 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I was pretty proud of that line 😂
😂😂🤣😂
Gave me a good laugh 😂

Believe it or not but he makes more money then an accountant or pastry chef, plus it's tax free. :)
When I go to NY for the first time, having my shoes shined by Don will be one of the first things I do.
ha, enjoy! Tell him we say hi!

the sound of a man that loves his work is music to my ears. fuck yeah.
Here he is again Don Ward the legend shoe-shiner, he could outsell the real-estate guru’s in Manhattan .. , I love this blokes energy.
How can you not LOVE this man?! :D
I love people who love their craft no matter what it is.

where does he keep his cart at night? Does he drive a truck? or? Im genuinely curious
He prob pushes it home
He sleeps in it
This man averages about 100k per year and claims what he wants on taxes because its a cash business. He has a home in new jersey with a garage.
My story sounded better
prolly pushes it home or found a spot garage or a back store alley ... you just gotta hustle there is always a solution :) have a good life fam.
That positive aura he carries himself with, that's what makes a salesman.
Man, he talks like Martin Lawrence 😂😂... Bravo sir 👏👏 loved it

KickHeavy No, there aren't.
I like that his strategy isn’t to be invasive which I think helps him in the long run
The last poem was awesome!!!! Loved it
Damn those lines at the end...
I love it! My son stood on the street corner to promote his babershop with handwritten flyers. The rest is history! Cha-ching!
Legend has it his real income comes from stand up comedy
I’m gonna buy some old shoes so he can shine them I’ll just pretend I’m walking by and not intrested then say ....”sure why not”? 😆
The most relaxing thing? When he blinks!

Great idea
I don't completely disagree. I think he's going for the sympathy factor.
It’s the location , most of those people are business class already, what he built was a reputation that doesn’t need to change to sale
I like that dude. Good to see him enjoying everyday life. Tough to do it seems.
