I have a friend in nyc who give a dollar or a few bucks to canners whenever he can especially on cold winter days or hot humid summer days. It’s not much but it helps reduce their work by half hour or an hour in the extreme weather in nyc. I would encourage people who live in walking cities to do the same.

It depends. Aluminum is in a current high demand and if you set up a route and stick to it you'll make slightly above minimum wage. But in Florida, it's crap. You have to present identification and fill out a 1099 form for a paycheck. Now you won't become rich. They have to do this by law to stop the brass and copper thieves.

This should be on VICE. Down in Florida it's 25 cents per pound. If you invest around $20 in fuel and collect a thousand, or so cans each day you'll make around $400 a week. But there's a catch......With all the brass and copper thieves of 2008, you no longer receive cash. And that means you fill out a 1099 form with identification for a paycheck....so no, down here in Florida it's shit!

The downside to the 5 cent deposit is that the barcode on the can has to be readable, meaning you can't crush it. This makes the bags that hold them huge and unwieldy. Other states crush them and save so much space.

We had 3 bags for garbage, paper and bottles, even tho there was bags for bottles the would end up in the garbage, and those were the bottles I saved and cleaned, about $1.50 a day. I walk from my job through a industrial district to the nearest gas station and just pick up cans and bottles on the way, The gast station buys them for 10 cents each at a max of 24 and i easily hit the max without going out of my way and it buys me a beer for the rest of my walk home; The walmart nearby also buys them and if i happen to get alot of bottles then ill just walk over there and buy another beer with them, ill then find more bottles on my way home and have a head start on tomorrows beer. Its like free beer.

I don't understand the disrespect. I like so many others have meaningless employment. These people take a valuable finite resource sensely thrown away by others so that it can contribute to an increased supply of that finite resource. Not only are they performing for the good of the environment but may actually collectively reduce the cost to business who manufacture using this resource. Having a job that makes you both an environmentalist and decent capitalist is not a bad position to have at all; in fact it is a meaningful one. Thank you to you all.

only 5 cents each can ? that's 3 times harder because here in western Europe we earn 15 cents for each can or bottle at least in the Netherlands.
In Germany it's 25 cents for each can or bottle.
The U.S.A. Should increase the price at least to 10 cents so that the labor is not so grinding .As a canner myself i believe these People earn some serious respect there because i would not steer my rears for 5 cents unless there is not so much competitions around in such a small city as Eindhoven.
I promisse i will make a week marathon in english on how much i make in 1 week so that you know how things go around in my hometown.
I'm not a homeless man but i need to exercise each day to strengthen and my motivation is scrapping for money and the labor is hard but invisible.
A thing they cannot trace on what i earn.

Where i am the value of cans is double that, $0.10 but the cost of life isn't cheap, some say ownership of a house is cheaper in the u.s than Canada.
Let's just say government injuries pension isn't worth a dime. Rents going up to almost $3000.00/month for small studio appartements, when your living under the line of poverty even with government income for disabilities, there is a problem, especially when the government gives new migrants over 2 grand a month plus money for a car, for 1 year then they got to be able to survive with what ever job they can find, if any will take em at fare wages, there usually there just exploited for cheap temp labour, & then they end up back in the gutter in a different country that they don't understand how the rules of the country work. So it's even worse than before.

5 cents per can or bottle is a bit low we get 10 cents here in australia.

If you are out in the city limits of Las Vegas you'll see the culverts filled with beer bottles and cans. Bottle redemption is what keeps NYS streets somewhat clean.

It's possible just need a ton of cans plus space for them. Cans/glass bottles and plastic inherently bring bad odors too so unless you have a house with a garage. In NYC the hard problem is collecting these bottles because if you get 1,000 or more. Where do you put them? I've seen people store them in apartments and that's just a no no for me. Already NYC apartments are small and storing bottles next to my bed omg nah. To each their own, can't knock somebody's other hustle good for them at least they got a meal ticket in it.

Thank you for the video, great stuff, interesting content, nice work. Only one thing. In the end you said:
"Pierre got us thinking there is a problem with the system..."
I want to ask you: Like really, only after this, you have started to think there is a problem? So before you were like - Ohh everything is alright, everyone is happy and there is no problems. Common guys, this is really very basic conclusion for someone who are not 16 years old and can see NY every day.
    But moreover, great work👍
