My guess would be the Police Department (or the shop who does their lighting and radio work) installed some sort of wig-wag or flasher module somewhere in-line with the brake light wiring that would allow for normal brake light function during normal driving, but when the emergency lights are activated, it would turn the brake lights into flashing emergency lights..... so when the car was retired, and that module was removed to make sure the civilian who bought the car did not have flashing wig-wag taillights, it also disabled the brake lights. Just a guess....
@@WJHandyDad I wish I could pinpoint a specific location for you to look but I know nothing about the "new" Taurus Police cars. You'll find it eventually.....
For you, it's a rewarding challenge that you will eventually conquer(the Taurus). For ME, it would be time to polish and detail the car, and put it up for sale.
LOL I really want to daily drive it for at least a couple weeks before selling it. Want to see how it is as a daily driver. I suspect I'll love my P71 & P7B even more but you never know!
Hi, I realize this is not a GM car but on GM cars that use the brake lights as turn signals, I've found the turn signal switch has been the fault for this, sypmtom is third brake light would work but not the taillights, taillights would only flash the hazard and illuminate dimmer/parking as in this video, I'm almost positive that's the problem on this taurus
Did you ever sort it? My guess is it's not because it's a police car. My mom drives a 2010 Taurus Limited and this just happened to hers. Outta nowhere. Exact same situation. All the functions of the taillights work with tht exception of the brake lights. Third brake light works.
My guess is look for a switch above the pedals in that area that disable the brake lights for stealth mode or whatever. It’s probably that or the wig wags.
I seen your follow up with tht For Scan fix. I have a 2010 Limited, exact same issue. However, there is no BCM in the 2010 model. I'm sorta stuck on what to do now.
Are there any Body codes, such as B132B:15 or B132C:15? First, I'd take a long look at the BCM connectors and wires for splices / cuts. Looking at the ford service manual, I honed into pinpoint K7 (one or more inoperative stop lamps, POLICE) basically says unplug the lamps, check for voltage when pressing the brake, and apparently each side has its own fuse. "check VERIFY the BCM fuse 14 (15A) (LH stoplamp) or fuse 13 (15A) (RH stoplamp) is OK."
thank you for those excellent points! Those fuses were good (checked before I did the video). It ended up being a Forscan programming issue. Changed one setting and they started working again.
it was weird... it said something like lock feedback: horn or turn signal only. Mine was turn signal only because I don't want the horn to honk when I lock the doors. But apparently it was mislabeled because it doesn't seem to have anything to do with lock feedback. But if I switch it to "turn signal only" I lose brake lights, and when I set to "lock feedback horn" the brake lights (and everything else) works
@@WJHandyDad hello I'm having this same issue my car is not a previous police car but it is a 2011 taurus. Can you please explain how you fixed this issue. Thank you so much sir.

I'll check. The 2 cut wires on that one harness are related to wig wags. This nightmare may be a lot easier thanks to folks like you commenting!

I don't know how the Taurus is wired, but I just went through this same thing in a Grand Marquis. The trouble was in the multifunction switch.
thank you for the suggestions

yes, it was a setting: ruclips.net/video/mibrvowLrEU/видео.html
@@WJHandyDad Interesting. I'll play around with Forscan tomorrow. Thanks.
@@bciecko1 yeah, it was really bizarre - not even sure why they have that option since it seems to have no beneficial use

thank you. I didn't see anything yet

check all the other things - maybe the 2010 and 2014 they called it something different. Good luck!

It's always a mess trying to fix electrical problems with retired cop cars.
yep! Sometimes I wonder if they give the downfitters a wire cutter and a Sawzall and turn them loose
Flasher
just leave it alone and use hand signals....
they won't let it pass inspection without working brake lights
