  • Greg and Finn venture into the snow winter Rocky Mountain woods with ONLY one item, testing the expert's survivalist skills. Ovens must build a primitive shelter and find the best way to stay warm in the freezing elements.
Greg is a self-taught survivalist from Canal Flats, British Colombia, who, since he was a boy, has read nearly every book on the topic. When he is not out in the wilderness, he is a professional dry-waller. He started his first bow drill fire when he was thirteen and spent the next forty years learning bushcraft and studying plants and edibles. He has even developed some of his own survival techniques and is a skilled hunter with both a bow and a slingshot.

    Yes! Awesome video!!
When you mentioned type of shelters for rain and snow, I was wondering to myself about structural parts and types for heavy snow fall and light snow fall.
Like not just strength of the sleeping area, but size inside etc would having a tight spot be bad in heavy snow, where you could easily end up buried!
Don’t have snow here in winter, so I love these hard winter videos! It’s also amazing that in snowy areas, you have very little worry about with critters like snakes and giant spiders wanting to cuddle up to ur warmth in the middle of the night! Where as in Australia, it happens frequently. Though a lot probably don’t even know it’s happened, more common in warmer time of year than the cooler times.
Enjoyed the vid, can’t wait to see what shelters you got up ur sleeve!
Doing a survival vid the best plan is no plan and make it up as you go, it all comes together as you find what you can work with!

Awesome vid. Lots of great tips in this one. I see alot of people that greatly underestimate how much and how fast wood can burn for an overnight. I like how you get enough materials so you don't have to go looking for more wood in the middle of the night. Cool shelter and smart to use the needles and rocks. Fin is such a gentlemen now. Good training.

👍 Happens a lot that way where you just have to get a fire going and throw together some kind of a makeshift shelter. You had some good finds there but I couldn't understand why you built your shelter so low and you didn't have access to the firewood without crawling out to get it. So many times, I have just built a wind break and slept sitting up against a tree, facing the fire and hoping the grizzly bears stayed away. I just turned 60 years old and require a bit more comfort now, maybe some fir branches to lay on. 😁 Stay out there and stay safe.

Agreed 👍 we also like to watch for snags - branches that have broken and are caught in lichen and twigs and such hanging oftentimes vertically. Also we put eyeball stickers on our ⛑️ to deter an attack from behind of a cougar, they like to attack from behind from what I gather so the stickers makes them think your looking at them and they go to move around and you obviously have a better chance of seeing them. Haven't had an encounter where I can say it worked but I've heard a many stories from many loggers in the mountains here where they swear it saved their lives.
