- Greg's determined to do a Bull Trout Catch n Cook, but the local bears won't leave him alone, catching TWO BEARS on camera! Along the way, he stops to identify a bunch of edible/poisonous plants and berries.
Greg is a self-taught survivalist from Canal Flats, British Colombia, who, since he was a boy, has read nearly every book on the topic. When he is not out in the wilderness, he is a professional dry-waller. He started his first bow drill fire when he was thirteen and spent the next forty years learning bushcraft and studying plants and edibles. He has even developed some of his own survival techniques and is a skilled hunter with both a bow and a slingshot.

Greg, you could talk about anything/ do anything in your videos and we would watch. I'm sure i'm not alone when i say we just enjoy your charisma and your old-school way of going about your day to day life.
Great comment, I find the Rockies to be a beautiful location and mixed with Greg's personality it's a total winner.
Hey, Greg. I appreciate that you are just a regular dude wearing your regular clothes enjoying the outdoors. You know your stuff. Thanks for bringing us along. Your experience is very informative.
I appreciate that!
More Greg stories please. Thanks.
Hello Greg, I just wanted to write this here. Sorry for the length.
My father passed away a few weeks ago, somehow we stumbled upon one of your videos for the 30 day survival challenge and we both became instant fans.
The scenery, honesty, integrity, and get out there and try it attitude you brought gave us immense entertainment and joy.
Dad was an outdoorsmen all of his life, having to live and work in the city but still holding the constant urge, and need, to venture out and be drawn in by the wilderness, particularly anywhere near an ocean or sea.
Over the years, as life became more and more busy, we went fishing less and trips to the wilderness went from every few weeks to none in many years, well at-least for me, see dad managed to stay around greenery for his work, and also was lucky enough to work right near a beautiful river where he would often tell of the pure joy of taking off his shoes and letting the blades of grass massage between his toes, as he laid back and relaxed with some lunch while watching the brilliance of water as the sun sets upon it.
Anyway, as we both watched your newest videos each week together (Saturday afternoon for us in Australia) it not only brought us entertainment, but bonded us ever closer as we would reminisce about all of our past adventures, and plan ever more in the future.
He really loved your plant videos, edible plants, useful plants etc and that one where you made a liner for a winter coat made him smile too ha ha, I think you and him would be kindred spirits, men of the land, who truly appreciate the little things.
As I type this I am sad now realising that I will not get to go on any more adventures with him in person, and also regret all the times we could have spent if only I took the time in recent years. Work and money are not the be all and end all in life, cherish the people you love as well as the time you spend together.
I know he will be with me in spirit for all time, he is in my mind, my heart, my soul and my spirit, and I look forward to going on more adventures with him guiding me...
I also look forward to watching more of your adventures.
Thank you for all of the fun you brought me and my father, and here's to more living the way you want.
Thank you Greg.
Regards, Scott.
So sorry for yur loss! 🤗🤗🤗

Man this video and all that hiking you did was totally worth it even for just the scenery. Beautiful scenery, amazing fishing spots. Glad you caught something to eat. A nice reward to end the video. Keep the videos coming. You are an awesome film maker, story teller, and outdoorsman.
Yea his cinematography and shot framing is exceptional
Yes the hi def views were worth every step!
Deadbeat greg
What an absolutely fantastic video, this is how I thought it would be, the Rockies are stunning, Greg is awesome, perfect combination.
Persistence is why they call it fishing not a fish market persistence it’s just relaxing watching a person who loves fishing awesome man
Always sit down after sunday breakfast and watch one of your vids with my 6 year old daughter. We love your content, keep up the good work!
Greg the plant knowledge is so important it’s one of the reasons I watch your videos and I really wish I was in the position to get in with nature as you do. You inspire me too so I’ve been watching all the videos . Thanks A Million for being you Greg !
u know what it is?
Greg is one of the most authentic, straight up, exemplary, what-u-c-is-what-u-get,
genuine, moral and decent (yet, thank the stars, not a preachy kind) human being to step in front of a camera, so far in human history. 🧐
Greg is a genuine blessing to RUclips and humanity in general. Down to earth, seems sincerely kind, no BS, just doing what he knows and loves and sharing it with the world.
You’re awesome brotha! You’re so humble and friendly, not to mention knowledgeable in your craft! Glad I subbed! Can’t wait for you to hit the milly mark bro
Have you ever had any unexplained situations while you have been out camping in the woods? Supernatural/UFO/bigoot type things? I love those kind of stories for the hardcore camping guys like you.
@PaцḶєє BlцєṢтяєєт Lol!!
That bacteria is not even THINKING about messing with you! You are probably immune. Loved you on Alone and always love your videos. Makes me smile every time 😄
Any man that throws down a Columbo reference is 100% subscription worthy... BAM!!! Hit that button!!!
Using the raw meat Styrofoam as a plate for cooked meat was priceless 😂 👍
The tray had the corn in it.
Fowler’s shitty editing as usual. Greg’s raw footage is so good, hopefully he ain’t paying buddy much for this juvenile post production
@@Ryan-hj4dk My thoughts. Whoever does the editing for Gregs video often put little pokes in that make fun of Greg, like this styrofoam thing. Not necessary.
that water is so clear and nice looking. every time I see in these videos I say to myself damn thats some clean water.
Bingo!
Greg, it’s weird watching you NOT catch fish. And that’s no bully. Still a joy to watch.
Greg, you live one great life my friend! The stories you have of your excursions are the best!! PLEASE never stop your catch and cooks, plant and berry show-and-tells, and your life stories! You have the best channel and you keep us coming back for more! Thank you. (The country surrounding you is so very beautiful. Lucky you!
Man try big spoons, spinners and you can use pike flies too with some weight. Ive found bulls love the color orange, yellow and white
I’m surprised he didn’t scrounge up some dragonfly nymphs.
Gold information in this
I second the Spinners, I caught pretty much every kind of trout here in Colorado on a number 2 Panther Martin rainbow trout spinner. Great video great info about bears.
I’m loving the rebel crawdad with the two treble hooks up here in the high Uinta mountain wilderness
Pretty sure this is the most interesting and useful channel on RUclips! Thank You Sir!

Yeah, but Greg is naturally humorous! When I watch Fowler’s I sometimes get the sense of MTV’s Jackass. Not for me. Keep the vids coming Greg!
Greg. If you had said this video was about filming encounters with Bears, and never mentioned the Trout, it would be mission accomplished. Damn conscience spoiling the fun. BS aside, we love your honesty.
Watching this dude is a relief from all the other self proclaimed RUclips bushcrafters they have brand new packs and brand new gear that don’t have a spec of dirt on them
Hope this can replace dry wall hanging for you brotha I envy this lifestyle it's where we all belong, maybe when the daughters grown. Til then its hanging windows happy hunting great content
Love watching your vids, Greg. Cheers from Newfounland!
@GregOvens so cool you take us to so many awesome spots you've fished, camped, and foraged for years. It's like you let us enjoy your life all over again! Love British Columbia wilderness, awesome place to explore!
Man, Greg, your videos teach me so much about life in general. The way you approach goals out in the wild is just enlightening: setting your sights in the long run, but knowing how to let go. I know that watching you deal with frustrating events out in the wild has taught me a lot about finding peace and enjoying the trip more than the destination. Too bad for the bull trout but congratulations for the awesome bear footage and the cutties; I loved the second black bear encounter!
I really enjoy your videos, a true woodsman! Thank you for your time and sharing your adventures.
Hahah the Jim Carrey gagging clip right after he put the pork back on the styrofoam package had me cracking up 😂😂😂
Thanks for taking us along Greg!
Love it Greg. You put so much time into your videos. Appreciate you sharing your adventures and knowledge. You have the best stories.
I was on a brush pile on Haida Gwaii when a huge black bear started looking for me. He could smell me but not see me. I threw chunks of wood, fired my 22 in front of him and yelled like crazy. He just kept coming to the base of the brush pile. I took out my knife and prepared for what would have come next and then something just said to my brain, bark like a big dog. So I did...and my impression must have been bang on cause he stopped cold and high tailed it back where he came from. Glad you have your defender with you Greg; I stagger my loads with double O buck and slugs. Stay safe man!
Now , you barking at a bear would make a good video. 😉
Hahaha, barking Like a dog at a bear, so funny!!! But good thinking, apparently it was effective!!!
He probably thought to himself, this human is plum crazy, no telling what else he might do, I'm outa here, see ya!!!
I love your videos, Greg! You're an inspiration to me and I'm sure many others. Your videos bring me joy and make me want to strive for a lifestyle where I live more closely with nature. Thanks for all of the informative content, I really enjoy learning about wild edibles (and in-edibles!) and bear behavior! You rock, Greg!
I like how you show a picture of the plants and give little facts. 🤘💯
You rock man. I am glad I found your channel. I have learned a lot from you. You remind me of a good friend growing up in the Pacific Northwest, North of Seattle, where you would have a hey day with all of the outdoors we have. You can travel in any direction for even just 45mins and be in another amazing set of beauty. My friend was super knowledgeable about wild edibles, hunting and fishing were his strong suit. Everybody needs a friend like you in the outdoors. Man, thank you for doing your deal.
Ahhhh...story time with Uncle Greg. 😁 Keep up the great work!

Good job Greg. Always enjoy spending time with you, regardless!
I carry a string of firecrackers in my pocket if nothing else...anything loud usually runs off a bear.

Careful with those in dry woods. You’ll start a forest fire.
