  • Oz made it safely back home to Birmingham AL. The detroit diesel 671 performance was awesome. Hill climbing and highway speed performance.

      Gotta wonder how much lighter Lenny is just from losing all that paint. Twelve layers (some of it surely leaded) on a vehicle that size has to weigh a decent bit.

    What Oz lacks in mechanical acumen he more than makes up for with his artistic ability to create the best looking busses around bar none. Inside or out an Oz built bus is a work of art! Once he has time to recondition those hand me down wheels from Lenny his bus will be perfect. Another thing I find amazing and a testament to Detroit motors is he made it all the way there with a ruined motor.

    Oz’s bus falling flat brought back memories of over 30 years ago when the church I pastored took a group of 35 teenagers on a spring break ‘89 ski trip to Red River, NM. We had contracted for a “new” bus but imagine my, and the youth pastor’s surprise when a late 40s to mid 50s bus arrived at the church. Too late to do anything about it, so we loaded everybody up, and headed north west. No luxuries; no restroom or a/c and standard transmission. All was well up until we were just outside Eagle Nest when the bus began running hot. Loose hose clamp we learned later. The driver tried to downshift, missed the gear and the engine died. Two lane road. No power, and the bus began to roll backward. God had mercy on us and the driver was able to steer the back of the bus into a boulder on the shoulder. We stopped. Kids thought it was the greatest thing. We adults could really have used a changed of underwear. Oh yeah, we called Fort Worth to the charter company reminding them of the new bus agreement; so sorry we were told. Good grief, I had almost forgotten about that. Thank you Scott for the uncovered memories.😊

      If I was the driver, that would have been so embarrassing 😳. Having my bus break while trying to give a group a nice trouble free trip and not being able to do it. I would have been frustrated beyond belief. 😮😊

I wonder if he may ought to replace the fuel filter(s) again just to make sure all those "fuel goobers" (I had to laugh at that terminology) get 'picked' out of the fuel system (maybe some anti-algae fuel treatment too?) Whudd'yah think? On a side note, I sure wish I had a vintage bus. You guys would get my business! Thanks for sharing & Merry Christmas to you Bus Gease Monkey Guys (and gals)!

    What I have done on PS systems that have air, particularly older Fords with the infamous power steering whine, is put a Mityvac on the PS reservoir. While the engine is running, pull it down to like 10-15inHg vacuum. The pump will whine loudly, but I only hold that for 5-10 seconds and let off. That generally gets all the air out and shuts up that whine. If its still doing it a little, Ill do it again and bring it down to almost 20inHg. This would also be effective for refilling a PS system that was allowed to go to low and sucked air. In that case I would park the front tires on either dirt or cardboard or political plastic signs (or jack it up) so as not to scrub the tires on a hard surface. I'd vac it and cycle the steering through the full motion and then vac it again. When you stop needing to add more fluid and it shuts up its whining I would call it complete.

    If I understand the fuel tank contamination problem correctly, hat's the solution to the contaminated fuel -- drain the tank and flush? Hook up an electric pump and filter and run into another tank? Then stick some sort of fuel sprayer into the tank to flush/refill, and repeat the filtered pump out?

  • @Rags2250
    @Rags2250 9 месяцев назад

    Was wondering if you used the 2 valve head or put a 4 valve head on? Had you considered putting a turbo on the engine, upping the torque and efficiency of fuel burn? You said you changed injectors, from a N65 to.......95's or smaller. I remember putting 110's and 115's in 92 series for customers. The one just had to see more smoke out the stack, thing is that smoke was just fuel that had not completed the burn just soots up the airbox and exhaust system. On the chassis dyno didn't give that much more HP or torque. He was happy though......not sure why consuming more fuel would make you happy! Did you consider an electronic throttle system? Nice job on the 6-71N!

    Hey Scott, just a tip on your voiceover comments. I'm an audio guy--I'm guessing that the room you edit/voiceover in has hard floors and is pretty reflective? Without investing in acoustical treatment like Sonex/auralex, you can make dramatic improvements by just putting some shaggy carpet on the floor, or if you can, hang something (like a rug) on the wall behind where your mic is. It'll make a big difference! I'd be happy to discuss. love the channel!
