    Don’t blame the GM. Mookie trade was all about ownership not wanting to spend. It was an awful trade from get.

    • @Eggy79
      @Eggy79 9 месяцев назад +1

      But the GM still didn't maximize the asset. The decision to trade is on ownership, the return is on the GM.

      They weren't prepared to commit $300 million to a player of that size (5'9", 175 lbs), believing the numbers Mookie was putting up were not sustainable for someone his size for the next 7-10 years.

    There is absolutely no excuse for the mookie trade! This Breslow guy is Bloom 2.0. The Red Sox ownership is an absolute clown show. They have lost thier fanbase and continue to further destroy any hopes of a rivival. SELL THE TEAM

      Lol how can you say he's as bad as Bloom? Dugie wasn't anything special, had multiple character related issues over the past two years and we needed pitching. I'm not mad about it.

      @@1Learn2Swim3 People are only saying this because he happened to get traded to the Yankees. If it was any other team they probably wouldn't care as much. It is painful that Soto is on the Yankees too though. Yankees are having a way better off season than the Red Sox.

      @@1Learn2Swim3 In a vacuum, I'm not either. I'm more concerned about the emerging appearance that the philosophy hasn't changed...and that's more on ownership than Breslow. He's "Bloom 2.0" in the sense that he's just doing what he's told.
      It doesn't matter how many prospects they aquire. Even if they hit on them and the guys are everyday players and all-stars...if they're just going to refuse to pay them and let them leave for what amounts to nothing...then what are we really trying to accomplish? It's such a fine line trying to win on a budget, are we a farm system for the big markets or the Boston Red Sox? Do we want to win or not?

      At the *TIME* of the trade? Sure there was.
      (1) There wasn't a guarantee that Mookie wanted to remain in Boston and management had to get something before he walked.
      (2) Mookie is not a big guy (5'9", 175 lbs) who was putting up power numbers. Who in the history of MLB with that size have put up those king of numbers in their late 20's, 30's? I can think of 2 players: Jimmy Wynn, the Toy Cannon; and Joe Morgan. Sox management figured those numbers weren't sustainable for a player that size, and in their risk assessment, they did not want to commit $300 million long term to Betts. I would not be surprised if they consulted Bill James before saying no. My guess.
      In hindsight they were wrong, obviously

    You have to ask the question for each player on the roster. Will that player be on the team when they make a World Series run in two or three years? If the answer is no, then you trade them for a prospect.
