- Another clip from the Dreamtimwe Live at the Lyceum video. Those old and sad enough to remember will know this wasn't on the live album that came free with Dreamtime but was on the B-side of the "Go West" 12 inch single. Much better version than the Death Cult studio effort in my opinion.
The drummer is incredible. Great live performance.
Nigel Preston R.I.P best drummer they ever had 😢💔
Nigel Preston was the bollocks.
What a drummer - such a shame he died so young. He was excellent with Theatre of Hate too.
As good as nigel was, I don't think Ray Mondo gets enough credit for his early drum work with Death Cult. These tribal rhythms were Ray's original creation.
one of the best performances i've ever seen, I wish i was alive in 1984 to see this concert.
Entire double album is incredible.
@@Kelly14UK I don't have the double album but I do have the Dreamtime album and the Live At the Lyceum video cassette! Ian is still a brilliant performer! THE BEST performer of our generation IMHO! ❤ LOVE HIM!
The concert was released as an album that came free with the first few thousand copies of the Dreamtime album in 1984. A video of the concert was released at the same time. Neither of these had all the songs from the concert on, but in the 1990s a CD and video package came out with all of the tracks on. I'm sure you would find it on Ebay sometime.
Saw them live in 2013 , still great energy.
Billy is so good on this. What a shame that he ended up being a mediocre rock player when he was so great at doing this style.
fantastic to hear this again!!! Ian with the northern accent before he turned into a yank. Ta! fooking excellent!
Not a single bad live track on the vinyl or cassette , hope the VHS is as great, but i wonder how Dreamtime would sound if everything was done onto studio vinyl as a double. Just think how it would have turned out compared to the classic doubles. The Cult shone here.
When I saw them on the Choice of Weapon Tour in 2010 and Electric 13 Tour in 2013, they played Spirit Walker and some other great songs off of the Dreamtime album as an encore!!! THE CULT still have their post-punk / gothic rock roots still intact but they're not afraid to ROCK OUT either!!! You should have seen the expression on some of the people's faces- most of whom were clueless mullet rockers- when The Cult played those songs! LMAO. 🤘🏾😎
Lol! I bet that was a sight to see! Ian and Billy will always be unique as far as Rock music is concerned!
@@sandrafisherhayes3219 It sure was! But catching them play live on the Sonic Temple Tour circa '89-'90 was epic too! I saw the tail end of that tour in 1990. You could already sense a change was about to take place in the rock scene as I saw the audience wearing Faith No More, Jane's Addiction, Living Colour, Fishbone, Drivin N Crying & Mothet Love Bone t-shirts. Alternative Hard Rock and ALT metal were about to take over and bring forth grunge from Seattle the following year! The Cult were a catalyst band in this movement!
@@niroshanfernando4784 they sure were! The Cult will always stand out because they started out as a punk band. Edgy Rock. I have noticed over the years they are rarely if ever featured in Rock magazines. I know what they are NOT and that is heavy metal! So they are kind of out there when it comes to genres which is why I love Ian and Billy and always will!
@@sandrafisherhayes3219 DEFINITELY EDGY for sure! But nothing wrong we with a little "heavy metal thunder" w/ an alternative edge once in a while à la Electric, Sonic Temple, Ceremony & Beyond Good & Evil ! 🤘🏾😎🎸🥁🎤
@@niroshanfernando4784 👍👍😁😁😎😎🤘🤘 absolutely NOTHING wrong with a little heavy metal! loved BG&E! Brilliant album! Blistering come back from our favourites! Sonic Temple absolutely! Electric unashamedly Rock 'n' Roll! The Ceremony album is also a firm favourite of mine ❤💚 closer to Love than their self titled one in 1994 IMHO. Heavy metal Thunder a'la Steppenwolf's Born to be Wild...great cover by the Cult! Love it 😀
The best ever, never get fed up of watching this, Thanks very much.
I'll stick one more clip from the Dreamtime Live video onto RUclips, before Polygram do me for copyright infringement... tell me which one you want.
Happy to have a Japanese limited edition mini-LP sleeve CD of Dreamtime that includes the Live at the Lyceum concert on CD as well. I sold the VHS concert years ago, which I now regret, as it this is brilliant.
Bad Medicine Watlz is beyond epic. The entire Live at the Lyceum blows my mind.
Ok, thank you. What a shame my dad didn't buy it in 1984. I had no chance because I was born in 1989:)
I first saw them at Jilly's Manchester 1983 when they were death cult .Then Hacienda Manchester .Sheffield lead mill can't remember but I used to go see a lot of rock/punk bands when I was around 18.
I saw Play Dead at Jillys back in the day
There too, awesome night.
Was at Jillys'too. That was the night I realised a small indie band Id seen loads of times were actually sat on a time bomb of potential. What a time to be at one with everyone there and the band in such a small venue.
wow!Nigel Preston does a fair copy of Ray Mondo`s drumming! Credit Due!:-)
Great Lyrics ... 2 lusty Souls are we LLTC ❤️
Live at the Lyceum was its own release and i am one of the lucky ones to own it. ive had my copy since 1987.
i love this song (i love all their songs) but i'd like they write a song called Andersen
For anyone wondering, the video was re-released with a CD with all the songs from this gig on both. They left Spiritwalker out because they had some probs with the mic and the vocals drop out for a bit. If you see one on ebay or amazon it's catalogue number BB001VCD.
yo!!! finally someone posts this concert!!! i have been diggin for 5 years to see this!!! thank you very much!!! -lukedogg
Love Ian's northern accent in this!! It's great!
Oh wow! I adore these guys! The best band EVER IMHO! They always deliver! They are up there with The Doors for me! ❤❤💖💖
they were such a brilliant band, I loved their b sides as much as the rest of their stuff, Snake being another awesome track. I don't mind some of the Electric stuff but they really did go down hill from there, such a shame really. I think they could have been as big as U2 now if they had stuck to their roots and not gone all yank. Maybe they are as big or bigger in the US. Not that I like U2 that much. Around the Love period everyone called them a rock band, I think Astbury and Co eventually b
Well you need to check out their more recent albums! (Hard to believe their self titled album from 1994 is nearly 20 years old now 😳!) Electric is a great album IMHO! I love all of the songs on it! Are you going to say I am a fool to like it? Each to their own...Ceremony is also a brilliant album! Each release has it's merits if you bothered to listen properly. Please don't dismiss it out of hand. I felt the same about Born Into This, but I am prepared to give it another listen. 'Dirty Little Rockstar' is the best track on this album for me though.
U2 are too mainstream. They were the ones who sold out in my opinion! The Cult are unique and will always remain so!
@@sandrafisherhayes3219 wow that was 11 years ago!. P.S. I don't think you are a fool at all. I'm glad you like them.
About the Cult being a Rock band, Billy says as much in a Headbangers Ball video on RUclips. Riki Rachman asked if they classed themselves as alternative, heavy metal or rock. Check this one out...they were co-hosts on Headbangers Ball in 1991 when they released their Ceremony album.
@@sandrafisherhayes3219 I do actually have Electric, Sonic and Ceremony and I have bothered to listen properly.
Love it
Bought the VHS the day it was released. Still have it and still watch it. The live album is great, but if you can get the japanese import, it has all the songs the they played
I love that you can hear the crowd crying out for them to play Moya, something that I continue to do everytime I see them...However, Matt Sorum would never be able to play any of the old material like Nigel!
Fantastic song, fantastic band. Does anybody know it is possible to get songs from this concert all together without pauses?
There's a cd you occasionally see on ebay with the full concert. Well worth tracking down.
carajo mandenme el link del concierto para descargarlo , lo necesitoooo!!!! XD
Have seen them 7 times!
Legacy band
Songs lie "Christians" and "Bad Medicine" absolutely kill from this show!! Too much good stuff on it really...
Have the VHS video and the accompanying audio CD. They actually screw up Spirit Walker which was their first hit. Mic problems.
There's one on Ebay right now.
Does he says "cià" at the end, abbrevation for italian "ciao"?
I think he says "Ta", an English shortening of Thank you!! 😎
Then " Fuckin excellant!" : )
The music with S.D.C. and Death Cult is Awesome...but can you blame Ian for wanting to get out of the piss infested alley he lived in?
Spiritwalker is on the reissued cd/vhs release bizbazboz must have a dodgy copy.
RIP NIGEL
It's sad to think that all those punk teenagers in the audience are now in their 40's with grey hair and fat.
Nominay yep iam 54
Yeah, that's what happens as a best-case scenario; you're now 15 years older than when you made this comment...hopefully!
After love pretty much turn to hate
Happens between brothers of the same womb. The love is still there, though.
And Nigel wasn't half the class Ray Mondo was. ;-)
Fantastic 🎶 song🙏but IAN … HAIRSTYLES, no so great⁉️Dance Rock with you😻💋
