As someone who has lost both my brothers I understand him so much when he says that no threat of teachers or anything can touch you when you've felt that loss.
*facewhack* OK, I have to put in my 2 cents: the reason Colbert's awesome has nothing to do w. that he's a "god", or the fact he's "just" 'charming', etc. It's simply b.c he's a persistent fellow w. an extravagant sense of humor, that is a deep analytic intellect, all in one. In addition, he's pretty talented & has studied/worked/performed in theatre for decades. I'm sure there are additional reasons... but it's simply due to the fact that he's a STRONG *HUMAN-being* that refuses to step back & let life pass him by & get his works done- making ppl laugh & think!
Shay Mary Totally agree! I'd also like to add to that his incredible wit (presidential correspondents dinner, anyone?) and his truly heartfelt personality (ask a grown man).
I totally understand reading voraciously after the death of a loved one. After my mom died I inherited her Nook and have read probably a hundred books or more in the 2 and a half years since it happened. It's an escape, but one of the healthier ways to escape grief.
It's true it's a form of escapism (esp. on Colbert's behalf, as he's an avid fan of Fantasy Fiction)... even though I have a close one who's passed somewhat recently, I haven't read but took on reckless behavior instead. It's insane how someone's passing can have such a DEEP impact one one's brain... one would be amazed how they could/would react after a passing... -.-
6:00 Poor fellow sounds as if he may crack, but holds his composure well here. He appears as if he holds a LOT within himself... as if bottled up, & not only reads as an escape, but uses humor as well as an escape (not just b.c of growing up w. humor). I know this feeling too well, so I can sense it on many others (not quite all) who carry it. It's labor...
I adore this interview, every last bit of it. Just watching it can cheer me up. Stephen is a truly wonderful person when he's not being "Stephen Colbert."
He seems like such an incredible person. You watch his show, and you can obviously tell he is hilarious and extremely intelligent. But where all of that came from..... truly incredible
i interned for Daily show in 04-05.. got to do a small sketch w/Cobert (playing the intern)... amazing experience there i will say (b/c i've posted it elsewhere) that Colbert is a funny, but not over the top, absolutely normal, kind, family oriented guy
this is very touching and it's nice to hear the ambitions and motives behind his career in comedy. I come from a very similiar family, who also value comedy a lot... Thanks for the upload.
*In addition, he's very intellect! It's wise that he escaped into books rather than take on reckless behavior (at least that's what it seems like), as many ppl tend to do such reckless behavior instead after a loss. -.-
It truly is incredible to see such a great person like Stephen Colbert do an interview like this. The real Stephen Colbert, not the character. He really is a brilliant man. Thank you for posting these! What are these clips from, anyway?
Wow, his family was huge, and here I thought my grandmothers having 7-9 kids was insane. His mother had 11!! I did the same thing. Ages 11 to 18 I almost never did homework, and during that time I started reading books FOR FUN :O I don't know why, though. Him, I get, I understand why, but why did I stop caring about school work? Dunno.
wow i never thought of that.. well it's vhs so gotta do a couple conversions here and hope the quality stays intact.. but yeah.. it's very short.. but it was definitely icing on the cake for that internship
@hippossa That is when he is IN character, When he is out of character, He is always nice and respectful. But on his show, His interviews are always pretty crazy. He does that to everybody he interviews, Everybody knows what to expect when they go on the Colbert Report. By the way, Stephen always gets his way. Even when he is on Papa Bear's Show. :)
Like Nightworks said, you can watch the entire interview by going over to the Charlie Rose website and typing "Stephen Colbert" in the search engine. I can also give you the link to the page if you'd like. Just send me a message, and I'd be glad to :)
Can anyone make a documentary with this improv group/comedy and stand up, and basically show business... make it in a way that people understand the business side, the personality side and the audience side too... can't really find any good ones yet
And that's from French (latin based), meaning easy. Web def: 1) arrived at without due care or effort; lacking depth; "too facile a solution for so complex a problem" 2) performing adroitly and without effort; "a facile hand" -so same thing :)
It's so horrible what happend with his family... It really makes me sad.. I could never imagene, how it must be. Omg, just tragic:( i don't know what to say about it, cause it's to horrible for me to rap my mind around. I just hope, everyone in his family is well now.( they best they can be, considering what happemd) Colbert seems like the nicest guy. Really good person. and obviosly funny aswell.
@thevampireking21 Facile : (esp. of a theory or argument) Appearing neat and comprehensive by ignoring the complexities of an issue; superficial. (of a person) Having a superficial or simplistic knowledge or approach
wierd.. i like normal steve just as much if not more.. he's funny but very very well spoken and has great stories... such a shame that happened to him.. thank god he's been blessed with such humor.. i'm sure it was helpful
@dak879 Once when I was in the hospital, doped up on morphine, I was watching Full House, and I was all "MOM! STEPHEN COLBERT IS DANNY!" Drugs are bad, bro.
People who are accomplished comedians have suffered immensely at some point in their life. For example, Jim Carry, Tim Allen, George Carlin, Chris Rock, Eddie Murphy, and Robin Williams, all suffered from depression and had very tough lives in their younger years. Isn't that weird?
Maybe that's a lesson we can all learn. I've never seen the reason call celebrities...celebrities. My favorite heroes and people aren't wildly known like that, don't have a lot of power, and aren't always hounded by paparazzi. Paparzzi, the most stupid job possibly ever. Stephen Colbert, Jon Stewart, Douglas Adams, Ricky Gervais, Lewis Black... I like comedians too much. "I should be toasting to my absent friends rather than these dead comedians."
stop posting that everywhere columbus....colbert steamrolls ppl on his show's interviews...the best ones are usually those where the person doesnt let him just have his way...
This guy interrupts Stephen WAY too much! Colbert very rarely does interviews out of character, I just wish there were somebody else doing this interview. We want to know more about Stephen....Not what he thinks about Stephen. He needs to ask the question and then shut up. But anyway i think Stephen is entertaining whether he is in character or not. And i think he's a great person. I'm a proud member of The Colbert Nation. Thumbs Up If You Are Too!!
As someone who has lost both my brothers I understand him so much when he says that no threat of teachers or anything can touch you when you've felt that loss.
I give my deepest condolences. -.-
It makes a lot of sense.
Why is Stephen Colbert so AWESOME??
*facepalm* .___.
Becky R Haha that was my point

Celine StClair Well said. :)

+Shay Mary right
I've never seen this side of Colbert, what an incredible guy. He is a legend of our time.
I cried at the end because suddenly the way I feel about things made so much more sense. After what happened to me, nothing seems important
6:00 Poor fellow sounds as if he may crack, but holds his composure well here. Stephen Colbert is just amazing. Intelligent, funny, charming, nice, and all into fantasy, science fiction, and D&D. He's my idol.
He has a really healthy mindset it seems, always nice when people don't clam up.. but are instead open and honest.
I adore this interview, every last bit of it. Just watching it can cheer me up. Stephen is a truly wonderful person when he's not being "Stephen Colbert."

JjhuRt
poor man. he just seems so warmhearted, its horrible that he had to go through something like that.
I just love him out of character. He seems like a really sweet and genuine person.
What a cool guy.
This entire interview is great. Colbert seems like such a genuine guy.
Aw, that was sad...
I can't imagine such loss, and at such a young age as well.
Fascinating to see him out of character speaking so personally. Seems like a great guy.
He is great both as the character and as himself.
If Stephen Colbert was my dad, i would be the happiest son EVER!
i interned for Daily show in 04-05.. got to do a small sketch w/Cobert (playing the intern)... amazing experience there
i will say (b/c i've posted it elsewhere) that Colbert is a funny, but not over the top, absolutely normal, kind, family oriented guy

Beautiful
What a remarkable interview.
this is very touching and it's nice to hear the ambitions and motives behind his career in comedy. I come from a very similiar family, who also value comedy a lot... Thanks for the upload.
Love Colbert, good interview, but whoever titled the video does not know the definition of "schmooze" nor does he know how to spell it.
pro trick : watch movies at flixzone. Been using them for watching loads of movies these days.
@Brodie Wyatt Definitely, I've been watching on flixzone for since december myself :D
Yup, I love him even more after this interview. Sigh.
i felt the same i.e., "nothing felt like a threat" to me when my grandpa died
Intelligent, witty, funny, influential, eccentric, imaginative, fresh, and charming.
I could go on...
this is the second exposure/look i've had of this guy. I'll be definitely checking him out more.
*In addition, he's very intellect! It's wise that he escaped into books rather than take on reckless behavior (at least that's what it seems like), as many ppl tend to do such reckless behavior instead after a loss. -.-
a cool smarty pants! love him.
This is so sad... Poor guy - and to get over that and go on to become such an incredibly humourous person. Ta 4 posting
It truly is incredible to see such a great person like Stephen Colbert do an interview like this. The real Stephen Colbert, not the character. He really is a brilliant man. Thank you for posting these! What are these clips from, anyway?
The way he speaks, he seems even smarter than Jon Stewart
He is just amazing
this is heartbreaking and inspiring at the same time.
he is intelligent and funny, to top it all off, he;s incredibly fucking hot and handsome. Just a dreamboat.
such a great man.
wait so that's why he's so graceful walking around on stage (took ballet)
simply amazing.
Today, I don't know if anything is threatening to him ether. He's a brave guy!
ive been watchin him since he was on "strangers with candy"
omg the whale story XDDD
phil ken sebben on harvey birdman attorney at law lol thats a good one
you can do anything you want.

He looks like Bob Saget in this interview.....lol
Can anyone make a documentary with this improv group/comedy and stand up, and basically show business... make it in a way that people understand the business side, the personality side and the audience side too... can't really find any good ones yet
It amazes how Colbert remains joyful even after his parents died.
That's the joy God has given to Him to coup with his loss.
People experience those losses every single day. It's not like the world can stop for you. You must keep going.
I want him.
Really like his explanation for why he did comedy.
it is. But as he hasn't fully discounted. It probably had part to do with shaping the great man that he is today.
I just want to curl up in his English professor(esque) jacket and sleep like a newborn baby.
The Show is Charlie Rose.
Its weird seeing this now especially after stephen slammed him on his show for the harrassment claims
Surrendered his need for importance? He has achieved extreme importance... HE LEADS AN INTERNET ARMADA!!! (and owns his own internet nation)
Charlie Rose shown on PBS
best interviews around
His dad did some amazing things for the civil rights movement. Look him up.
And that's from French (latin based), meaning easy.

Battle of the charismas.....
here is a very real person.
wierd.. i like normal steve just as much if not more.. he's funny but very very well spoken and has great stories... such a shame that happened to him.. thank god he's been blessed with such humor.. i'm sure it was helpful
can you put the video clip of you and colbert up?
I would love to see the link
@dak879 Once when I was in the hospital, doped up on morphine, I was watching Full House, and I was all "MOM! STEPHEN COLBERT IS DANNY!"
Drugs are bad, bro.
Totally get what he means by how nothing matters.... my brother died last week. things that were a big deal last week mean nothing anymore.
this is great to see him out of character like this
holy shit.
@BonnieBecnel and that is hard to do my friend :)
if someone said they were gonna sing a song and they started making whale noises I would die, even without context

Stephen Colbert, Jon Stewart, Douglas Adams, Ricky Gervais, Lewis Black...
I like comedians too much.
"I should be toasting to my absent friends
rather than these dead comedians."
That whale gag story's great. Making the setup, the punchline worked better.
i think mesquissto means "fucken things that he had to go through sucks" mebz. chillll.
this is not shmoozing. shmoozing is similar to flirting, from my experience with the word. and "schmooze" is the correct spelling.
What a horrible thing to happen to a family.
stop posting that everywhere columbus....colbert steamrolls ppl on his show's interviews...the best ones are usually those where the person doesnt let him just have his way...
Stephen Colbert is so hot ... beyond George Clooney hot.
Things were much different back then. I am guessing these days, he would have gotten professional counseling.
maybe
What a terrible thing to have happened to him and his family. Poor Stephen :(
Goodlvmi
its so sad that he had family died in a plane crash
You need threats to have discipline and nothing seemed threatening to me.
dunno, but you got 6 negative votes :S

yeah hes sooooo annoying
Then the REAL Colbert "Comes Out!!" I can't stand him now!
