So the doctors can make money by encouraging mothers not to make sure their babies get all their cord blood so the doctors can keep a share of it to sell? Can a mother just take home her own placenta after birthing since it belongs to her? Or does the hospital collect it to sell?
I have heard of mothers who have taken the placenta home. You have to make it well know that you want it and have a transport device ready and waiting. A small styrofoam cooler would work well. I think it is a good idea to have some cold packs in there as well.

@@15hrincon true, but we need to educate ourselves in advance, or else we would just obey unnecessarily when hospitals say it is in their policy to keep it for research purpose or anything. Forgetting that we have our own rights over it.
The cord shouldn't be clamped until the placenta has been delivered, elevated above the baby, to allow the blood to flow into the baby.
I read somewhere that a lot of people that do home or water births leave the cord connected to the placenta connected to the baby until it falls off on its in own. Insuring full transfer of iron and other nutrients to the baby. It was said they would do this in past times and that our bodies now are more iron deficient than those of the past because we don't allow the full transfer of nutrients from placenta to baby and we just cut the cord right away. Is this true? And if so when did it change? Why don't we allow that full transfer anymore if it is beneficial?
Risk of infection is the main reason it is not recommended.

I just find it weird that they want the cord blood to be donated, charge mothers a fortune, and Still charge whoever is gonna use the cord blood an arm and a leg even though it was harvested for absolutely Free

Is it true that in normal births delay leads to hypothermia?
A study I just read showed no difference in Temp, HR, SPO2 or glycemia. It was a study done on women with gestational diabetes.

True delayed cord clamping actually means waiting until the cord stops pulsing (ideally kept elevated above the baby) so that the maximum amount of blood and nutrients flow back into the newborn. 💗💗💗 As for helping the mama with hormonal balance and nutrients postpartum - most birth centers and midwives can offer placenta encapsulation, which is a sanitary way of preserving the nutrients and turning them into a supplements in capsule form. Mothers who take placenta capsules generally experience a much easier postpartum time, better mood and hormonal balance, less (or no) depression, better energy levels and faster recovery time.
Lastly, if cord blood stem cell collection feels really important, maybe a happy medium would be to delay cord clamping with at least 5 minutes, preserve the rest for stem cell collection, and to keep the rest of the placenta for encapsulation?
The hospital doesn’t own my babies stem cells before they even get a breath 🙄
