I am a lifelong resident of Florida and have had damage from hurricanes like Charlie and Irma but last year my home flooded first with idalia which I spent 2 months repairing and then major flooding with Helene. I'm done and the only way I'd live on that land is to build a fortress home 12 feet up. It's an incredibly beautiful setting but IMO a total waste to keep repairing a home that's just going to flood again. And this home has been there since 1950 with very little water intrusion until idalia. The weather has changed and the water temp is higher. While salvaging what I could after Helene the temperature was in the mid 90s according to the temperature gauge in my truck. That's unheard of in October!
Insanity is doing the same thing over and over expecting a different result!
These continual storms will be a game changer for the West Coast of Florida.
They should've never built right on the water; should've left a buffer between the gulf and where the houses start. Thats why they are constantly doing the beach renourishment projects. In other countries, you only see public roads next to the waterline. Here u have houses.
I will be in Siesta Key this winter, spending my dollars to help support the economy; we were there in May and loved St Armands Circle. Stay strong.
That is sweet of u
This is so heartbreaking. Im literally crying
Its sad to see but the Pinellas coast and the Tampa Bay shoreline could not have withstood another 15 ft storm surge...
Why don’t they invest in an underground electricity system? In the uk, in London all cables are buried and in 26 years that I’ve lived here, only once I didn’t have electricity.
If this area is prone to bad weather and hurricanes maybe it’s time to look at another system.
Will pay for itself in the long run.
They are converting older areas from overhead to underground, but it's been slow. All new development in the area has been underground for the last 30+ years.
Underground 😂😂😂😂
It's sand and aquifer
Absolutely NONE of this human modification belongs there
Nothing!
It is sand. Some of these are barrier islands with no bedrock just a large sandbar.
Water table is high among many other issues, you can’t get compaction to build on top, it’s shell, sand, organics and water.
This ain’t London, limey!
Praise the Lord. Prayer answered Milton weakened and wasn't what they thought it would be. Only by the Grace of God Almighty. The One who calms the Storm. Give Him the praise. Trust in Christ alone.
Mostly debris with some low level flooding. The Carolinas however...
Wow. That is a mess .
Great message, “stay hopeful”❣️
This is crazy! Who could know that living at 1 foot elevation near the ocean (or a river) would result in flooding and damage?!?
Let’s all run around acting shocked!
And now they beg for more free tax money to fix it ~ till next year
time to look for another paradise
They don’t need to rebuild.
Milton 2 is comng
Nope cold front will push it out
That’s ok, I just used my generator and still have gas leftover (Ocala, FL)
Don’t get run over by a bus today.
