    Wow, this was a powerful movie, although the ending was a total cop out. Some in the comment section are saying that the film has a Liberal vs. Conservative theme. But I don't see it that way. To me, it is simply a story about woman with a high "Quality of Consciousness" trying to navigate a dinner party filled with many lower "Quality of Consciousness" individuals. I don't see anything political about being a caring human being.

    • @TheJadedJames
      @TheJadedJames 5 лет назад +23

      I don't think the ending was a cop out. It was a visceral expression of Hayek's pain, and how the John Lithgow's of the world often remain unscathed, while l others suffer in silence or can't do much more than vent their anger, while nothing changes, beyond a few people being made momentarily uncomfortable. This movie explores how the political landscape affects our interpersonal relationships, even when we aren't stumping for our preferred candidate in an election year. When Lithgow gives his speech about not letting things bother him and how we are all going to die anyway ... maybe it is easier for him to have that position as this old rich celebrity (who the other people at the party are kind of scarred to genuinely upset him because their financial security is tied to their relationship with him). Hayek has literally lived the consequences of Lithgow's blase attitude that he might never feel himself.

    I love Salma Hayek, she's a great actress. You fall in love with Beatriz passion, and her ability to speak her mind. But she is a little too intense. This movie was great but it feels incomplete. I never knew who was she talking on the phone with and we never got to know Tara.

      She came to USA illegally and used the American opportunities she didn't find in her country to be successful while still complaining about USA. She ended up marrying a white billionaire. ..

    Nuggets of lessons that I learned from the movie:
    ✔️Healers are empathic people. They are good at connecting with people and everyone/everything around them.
    ✔️They are old souls whose self-consciousness and self-awareness around are high.
    ✔️They are usually survivors of trauma.
    ✔️Their weakness is self-control of their emotions and if they aren't able to master their own emotions, they would usually shutdown themselves or withdraw from a very unlikely situation.
    ✔️Healers also need healing.

      What do you mean? I loved her in Sausage Party (2016)! 😀

    • @beatc
      @beatc 7 лет назад +27

      the fact that the (serious) example you mention is from 2002 should answer your own question. salma just didn't get any meaty roles for quite a while, playing mostly the sex bomb in some form or other, so it's good that she got the chance for this part, which seems a bit more complex and different.

    salma hayek, a filthy rich actress who married a filthy rich businessman, she's campaigning HARD because shes worried that actresses are making 10 million per picture compared to 10.5 million for male actors. My heart bleeds for her.

    Damn! What a shame this movie is practically impossible to find! Not on any of the major streaming services (at least not over here in Europe), not on RUclips, can't be downloaded, prohibitively expensive on disc... Christ! Anyone know anything about availability, let me know!
