Wow, this was a powerful movie, although the ending was a total cop out. Some in the comment section are saying that the film has a Liberal vs. Conservative theme. But I don't see it that way. To me, it is simply a story about woman with a high "Quality of Consciousness" trying to navigate a dinner party filled with many lower "Quality of Consciousness" individuals. I don't see anything political about being a caring human being.
I don't think the ending was a cop out. It was a visceral expression of Hayek's pain, and how the John Lithgow's of the world often remain unscathed, while l others suffer in silence or can't do much more than vent their anger, while nothing changes, beyond a few people being made momentarily uncomfortable. This movie explores how the political landscape affects our interpersonal relationships, even when we aren't stumping for our preferred candidate in an election year. When Lithgow gives his speech about not letting things bother him and how we are all going to die anyway ... maybe it is easier for him to have that position as this old rich celebrity (who the other people at the party are kind of scarred to genuinely upset him because their financial security is tied to their relationship with him). Hayek has literally lived the consequences of Lithgow's blase attitude that he might never feel himself.
@@TheJadedJames I just watched this movie and you explained everything I was thinking and feeling perfectly. The movie has such a deep message. You are brilliant.
"The world doesn't need you!" YES!! I must see this
The world doesn't need any of us. In fact the human race is killing the planet...
actually, the illegal migrants are killing the planet. i.e the terrorist bombings in europe occuring more and more often
John shao you dumb as shit
77Avadon77 how did ‘Americans’ go to America, there was already Native Americans there, conflict
I love Salma Hayek, she's a great actress. You fall in love with Beatriz passion, and her ability to speak her mind. But she is a little too intense. This movie was great but it feels incomplete. I never knew who was she talking on the phone with and we never got to know Tara.
She came to USA illegally and used the American opportunities she didn't find in her country to be successful while still complaining about USA. She ended up marrying a white billionaire. ..
Nuggets of lessons that I learned from the movie:
✔️Healers are empathic people. They are good at connecting with people and everyone/everything around them.
✔️They are old souls whose self-consciousness and self-awareness around are high.
✔️They are usually survivors of trauma.
✔️Their weakness is self-control of their emotions and if they aren't able to master their own emotions, they would usually shutdown themselves or withdraw from a very unlikely situation.
✔️Healers also need healing.
finally a good role for salma hayek.
What do you mean? I loved her in Sausage Party (2016)! 😀
Seriously though, she's great in Frieda (2002) and I also really did like her work in Sausage Party.
the fact that the (serious) example you mention is from 2002 should answer your own question. salma just didn't get any meaty roles for quite a while, playing mostly the sex bomb in some form or other, so it's good that she got the chance for this part, which seems a bit more complex and different.
beatniece yes so funny. Wanted to write exactly the same. Thanks
beatniece I agree such a shame Salma did not win the Oscar for Frida.
Playing a victim of racism is finally the peak role of her achievement? What about Frida? Or Desperado?
Give this fucking woman all the oscars
ashley stanton 1st of all Oscars don't matter and if you are a liberal don't youbhaye the Oscars because you think they're racist? lol
oh dear me
ashley C YES
Not all the oscars because she only acts, not produces, directs, writes, the photography or the editing!
Ashley c? Haha I'm Ashley b!
not that I don't appreciate junk films...but this seems smart and unexplored. how refreshing! will watch.
No difference at all. love that junk...but a bit of balance is nice.
izabellizima i dont approve your opinion
How is this junk?
marksgrove My comment addressed how refreshing it is that this seems smart and unexplored. I made it a point to say I appreciate junk films but used them as a contrast to this film which is not junk, as far as I can see.
izabellizima got it. Thank you for making it clear for me,
Finally, somebody gave my Salma the role she reserved to a great comeback. This is smart, very dark humor and appropiated for this era.She and Lithgow will be serious contenders for cinema awards next year, this movie will be a total success.
we need more of this and less fast and furious
...and less Transformers
Gonzalo Arvietti if people didn't want those movies they'd stop seeing them but they Dont so obviously people want and need those movies lmao
Good idea, but poorly executed.
4 years later, and still rings true more than ever.
how interesting! Salma, Chloe, and John? Tantalizing.
I love the white tears in these comments. Definitely going to see this movie.
I'm only in if everybody in this movie except Salma dies at the end.
thesecretmeeting Ha! I came here to post something to that effect. I don't see any of these people becoming redeemable by the end of this film. At least, that's what the trailer seems to imply. The only way out for them is death. Slow and painful death.
thesecretmeeting Felicia
I'm in if she makes them die.
what..??!!!?? u party pooper
Zachary Howe this coming from someone who supports a political party that advocates a healthcare policy that lets poor/sick children die.
This powerful film is a must-see. This is an extraordinary film, one of the best I've ever seen.
Unfortuantely, I can't find it anywhere.
There are thousands of ways to end a movie.
The writer / director had an invaluable opportunity to close the film with an outcome more transformational and uplifting for the characters, and especially the viewing audience.
🙏
for once they didnt give anything away in the trailer, it looks interesting
well... I hate to disappoint people, but you've seen pretty much all the arguments in this trailer
anonymous sarah Um, did it ever occur to you this trailer does in fact show everything? This film looks awful.
+darren motise This movie sucked. I just watched it last night, and it sucked. It's not a comedy-drama. It's just plain boring.
anonymous sarah there wasn’t anything to give i watched the movie
@@angrybirds719 agree. It lacks logic. She is "prist"-"healer" its religion. She doesn't act religious at all. Because acting as egocentric maniac makes you look the same like this old man or even worst. And most of riekies are scammers. She is getting money from them and is playing friend to them and she is mad how they get money.
Get Out 2: This Time A Mexican
She has an accent from Spain. That's in Europe. Fyi.
m8trxd Salma is Mexican.
Her accent in the movie is Spanish.
the official language of Mexico is Spanish. My mother language is Spanish and I can asure you, the Mexican and Peninsular Spanish are quite different. Just google her, she's born and raised in Coatzacoalcos, Veracruz (in Mexico)
m8trxd I think the clues are in mistaking her for staff & asking if she came to the US legally. Mexican.
Absolutely wonderful movie, so unique, and Salma Hayek acting is on point!
100% recommend it :)
This is Ironic because her husband has a net worth of 20 billion dollars.
and thats what my friend is called acting.
And Salma on her own has a net worth of 200 million dollars
I feel same as Beatriz it was by coincidence I watched this film and I couldn’t believe how much we were alike such a powerful film. I absolutely despise trophy hunters and I’m a healer (empath)
THIS is a must see!
I'm excited about the dialogue. :-)
TheMovieMyLife the dialogue is so forced they even have the people staring Into the camera lmao
they shouldve called the movie "fuck white people " because that's what it is.
Troy Edwards I agree
Greenkidd I'll give a full report on here when I see it. I will say this. We (in ALL races) need to see the ugliness that we do (and we are being) without taking it personal. We can't help what others do but we can be better.
@@greenkidd529 I know for sure, not all white people are like the people in this movie. So, I don't think your title reflects reality.
I love films that were shown at Sundance, and I love Salma Hayek and John Lithgow. I can't wait to see this. :)
YOU GO GIRLFRIEND!! i will watch this just to see her shut them all down.
I cannot wait to see this. Salma 👏😍😘
The movie was great... really loved it.. and salma its brilliant here..
This is a wonderful Movie. Salma is a wonderful actress
Just saw the whole movie right there, except for the 10 minute ending. Damn these Trailers.
This movie looks really good...Have been a while since I saw a movie with an original plot.
This looks like it will be a great movie.
This looks amazing!
Well done to the trailer maker. This one I have to see.
TheMovieMyLife. What looks good about it?
John Kerparik I asked the same thing. It actually looks awful.
Yah it's not. Just finished it. If you like preachy far leftist films than this is for you.
"Bless me Ultima" seemed to have been possessed.
Salma, John, thank you!
Most the time I feel like Beatriz
How did I miss this when it came out? Gotta find it
You gave a great Ted talk!
Can't wait! I love Salma
A must see, give Salma all the Oscars
i call oscar fot Salma and John
best actress ever i adore u salma
great great film. Two thumbs way up!
hopefully an award winning perf by hayek
Salma Hayek is finally making GOOD movies
That looked a lot like Chloe Sevigny all dolled up, this might be watchable 👍👍
A powerful film and grand vehicle for Hayek, Lithgow, Sevigny and the rest of the cast to shine. Bravo.
You had me at Salma Hayek, but Salma Hayek going head-to-head with John Lithgow? Um, shut up and take my money!
this is really good she is brilliant in this
The ending made me cry idk why
This looks amazing. Definitely gonna catch it.
This looks incredible. Looking forward to it.
RESEARCH FLAT EARTH
I love this movie
A bizzaire ending for a character portrayed as a deeply spiritual being.
This feels like a must-see.
ugh can't find this movie playing anywhere near me smh
Same here. I realy wanted to see it, but it was not on at all. Not been in the video-stores to buy or to lent out either. Very strange.
"The first great film of the trump era" wtf does that mean?
ik like even as far as progressive media goes is the implication that get out and wonder woman weren't great films? I feel like this movie exists in a bubble of ideals
Plymouth it means that its a film, the first to show the trump era and its great!! 👍🏿😂
Plymouth a film that responds to the cultural change that the trump era created
Just finished it and it's total dogshit of a movie. Deleted it off my drive. Yah it's that bad.
We need a Wall soon.
wow it almost feels like my husband and I
This actually looks INTERESTING, FOR ONCE.
With all that angst before & during dinner, I can only wonder....what's for dessert ??
Any other Vegan wanting to see this movie? I'm excited
my name is in the movie title so i already like it.
two hours of awkwardness... and i didn't understand the ending at all, it was so random.. was anyone else confused by it?
just saw it. very, very well done. and no, its not a dark comedy. hollywood and their crappy trailers are so full of it.
finally Óscar for salma
This would be a great sequel for "The Invitation"...lol
SPOILER:
I don’t get why Salma Hayek’s character says at the end, “That man killed my goat,” referring to John Lithgow’s character, unless she was speaking metaphorically. Maybe she meant, men like him killed my goat. Jeronimo was pure white, and was a “scapegoat” perhaps.
Gracias!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This looks great, the dark humor is just what we need and for all of you who are going to take this wrong; this is not "anti white" this is anti elitism, but if you still have trouble distinguishing it well…
Fernando Matehuala if that's was the case why are the "elites" in the trailer only white. why not more diversity there are a number of diverse elites in the world who equally look down on others
Greenkidd Uh, geography? This isn't set in Dubai, where you'd see wealthy Arabs & perhaps a Filipino Salma Hayek. Whites are disproportionately represented in the top 1% globally, so you don't need to be attacking whites to mirror that in the film.
Fernando Matehuala
I am baffled by people getting offended by satire depicting elitists despite the fact those people aren't even elitists.
Fernando Matehuala The elitists are the ones who want illegal immigration and excessive global warming/cooling/climate change laws.
Mickey784cr Preach
This looks really good !
I was expecting more tension with a POW climax. Instead, the movie isn't even 90 minutes long and the ending is out of left field!!! If I had written this in film school, Richard Walter or whoever the hell was teaching it would throw the script back to me!
She is amazing 😂Love her
salma hayek, a filthy rich actress who married a filthy rich businessman, she's campaigning HARD because shes worried that actresses are making 10 million per picture compared to 10.5 million for male actors. My heart bleeds for her.
WARNING INCOMING TRIGGERED WYPIPO LMAO
that actually looks pretty interesting
Carina did you watch the trailer? Yes or No?
YOU GO BEA!!!
Yes I am so so ready for this
Great movie!!🤧
70 trumpf followers did not like this preview... poor things!
It was a good movie
I cannot wait to see this.
I got to see this movie...!!!!
Amazing. I will watch 🔥😍 about time 🙌🏽
I love you Salma!!!!!
Peach!
Damn! What a shame this movie is practically impossible to find! Not on any of the major streaming services (at least not over here in Europe), not on RUclips, can't be downloaded, prohibitively expensive on disc... Christ! Anyone know anything about availability, let me know!
Great Movie , very Hard and Powerful movie ......
ok I'm in this looks so good!
CAN'T WAIT TO SEE THIS
Can anoyone identify that piano song from the beginning sequence of the film? I think it's from "Enlightened" but I can't find it anywhere
Looks pretty good
This was a great movie!
very good
it's the high commander !
ive got a joke if youve seen the movie; "That man killed my goat i kill him" "why" " *Russian logic* "
Sure I will watch this one 👍
holyshit - i might actually go to the movies to watch a flic this summer.
Show 'em, Beatriz!
