Useful information but need to clarify on post op function. I have performed over 130 latissimus dorsi flaps. Patients have an excellent functional recovery. My patients have gone back to competitive sports after a latissimus flap. It is well known that this muscle is 'expendable', meaning other muscles fill in after the muscle has been moved. I will be posting educational videos on this technique in the future.

I’ve watched this again and it’s so thorough, I’m just about in tears. LOL. I have such a clearer understanding. I just feel like my surgeon was rushed and didn’t go into details like this. Thank you so much for asking your questions too, Terry. So,so helpful. I appreciate your channel. It’s the only one I trust for reconstruction information.

Very informative. I didn’t know about this option of using from the back. I had a diep flap with fat from my stomach about a month ago. Even though I am happy with the result, it’s droopy.

I’m so grateful for this. My surgery for this is in two weeks. Didn’t know it was an option.

@@12382576 Hello. I had the surgery as planned but because residue was found in one of the ten lymph nodes, reconstruction was delayed. Luckily, my team got all of it but I must have five weeks of radiation, six more months of chemo(pill). I have to also finish the immunotherapy for the year as originally planned. But, God is good !I am in good spirits! I’m two months out. The incisions and healing process has been so great, I’m undecided about reconstruction now. My prosthesis are doing me good lol.

Are there any exercises recommended prior to lat flap surgery that will help with recovery?

I would reach out to your surgeon and see if there are exercise physiologist in the area they work with that might have functional activities for you to do to prepare for surgery with a LAT flap.

By “left in the dark” you mean you had a less than acceptable outcome and overall experience, I am sorry to hear this.
