    Most Asian countries have their own variation of this (e.g. different fillings). This originated in central China during the Tang Dynasty and became more popular in southern China as a popular dim sum dessert/snack. It’s called “jīn dēui” (in Cantonese) or “jian dui” (in Mandarin). Literal translation is “fried pile.” Besides red bean paste, sweetened black bean paste, lotus seed paste or a thick custard are other filling options. As well as ones without any filling (hollow).

    We call that "Buchi" from where I come from.

      Really? I thought the reason is because they use brown sugar instead of white sugar

    • @nootnoot2342
      @nootnoot2342 5 лет назад

      Oishii Banana!
      Nahhh
      Even if it were white, both sugars would caramelize and turn brown anyway.
      Also, look at how thin the glutinous dough became. 😂
      They cooked it a little too hot and too long.
      Edit:
      You may make the dough thicker when fried by adding some baking soda ;)
      You're then guaranteed with sticky, stretchy, mochi-like, and non-crusty buchi

      @@nootnoot2342 u r right. The oil is too hot. I can see from the color of the sesame seeds 😁. I never use baking soda in my sesame balls. I always use 2 types of flour. Glutinous rice flour and rice flour, so it will stay soft aftr a day

    Whats the matter Tasty can't find a royalty free Asian song?
    Next time use a K-pop or J-pop or whatever-pop song for your Asian dishes...😜🎵

      Not all Asians are alike! Canto-pop would be more appropriate for this video. 😉

      @@wctoronto You're absolutely right! Sorry for my ignorance, Canto-pop would be the best choice for this video.

    • @largeandmildlythreateningr2966
      @largeandmildlythreateningr2966 5 лет назад

      you can use any number of things but there isn't much that tastes similar to red beans. candied coconut is used in other places

      Mung bean paste or finely ground peanuts should be alright. A lot of people mentioned about it in the top comments.
      The one I eat always had mung bean paste as a filling, because that's the only ones I could find at that moment.

    this is not a common Onde onde, you use potato for that recipe. This is just Buchi because it only uses red beans.
