it’s been a hot minute since i’ve seen someone praise this show, and it made me remember how this show changed my life.
i started watching it in 2010, when i was ten years old. my fascination with the show was what inspired me to learn english on my own (i’m brazilian). i found a community of people who loved these characters as much as i did, and for the first time in my life i felt like i was part of something bigger.
but by far, what changed me the most was the episode blink. again, i was ten when i watched it for the first time and was terrified, but kept coming back to it over and over again. that’s when i realized i wanted to be a filmmaker, specifically a screenwriter. i understood that these stories and these characters are a form of art, not something to keep me entertained.
i grew up in a place where no one is incentivized to persue the arts, so understanding that i could be the one behind the camera making people feel things just by writing a few words down... that gave me a purpose, an ambition. and i’m still following it today.
all of this to say that now i’m gonna have to watch the entire show for the first time in five years so thanks bertie

Heaven Sent is the best damn episode of new Who and that's the hill I will die on.
Peter Capaldi's solo performance, Moffat's script, Rachel Talalay's cinematography and Gold's music really came together and made that. They didn't have to go so hard, but they did, and I'm eternally grateful. Never thought an episode with virtually just one character in one location would work, but my god, it did.

The Loving Vincent music in the beginning of the video sent me straight back to my fourteen year old self, who cried tons during the Vincent episode. Thanks for that.
Anyway this was so lovely to watch. I don't actively watch the show anymore, but it will always be a source of nostalgia for me. For a long time it was my favorite thing too. I think that part of me will always be fourteen and fascinated by the myriad of characters and plot lines and aliens and angst and the beautiful, ridiculous Doctor. The show is bizarre and whimsy and all over the place, but that's why we love it so much. Even though I haven't been watching it for a couple years, I kind of hope it never ends. There won't ever be another show quite like it.
And I have to say, there is something so special about talking with someone else who's seen the show. You'll rarely meet a casual fan of Doctor Who, if you know what I mean. It seems like everyone who's seen a part of it holds it dear, and I love that.

So I started watching doctor who for the first time ever about four months ago. I’m a big David Tennant fan and it was unreasonable that there was this big catalog of his acting I hadn’t seen. I really didn’t know what to expect and I only really intended to watch his seasons, but obviously that’s not what ended up happening. I love it. The thing is I’m Irish and if you know nothing else about doctor who (like I did up until recently) you know it’s British. It’s inherently British, and so I had always assumed it wasn’t for me, that I wouldn’t get it, or maybe rather I wasn’t supposed to get it. Very often being Irish means you feel you are not supposed to like things that are overtly British, but that’s a whole other story. No one I knew watched it and it wasn’t on tv here. So it just passed me by, until now. I love sci-if, and television shows, and interesting characters and relationships but Doctor who somehow managed to skirt around the edges of the many “similar” telelvision shows I consumed. Anyway I am so grateful to have discovered it eventually, and I would like to put in a written request for an Irish doctor.
    Loved the video 🤟

Damn it’s so true but I worry that I may never reach its peak between 2008 and 2011, the compelling story crafted by the loss and the constant running from his home and his war, a man who regrets then becomes the man who forgets, I was so excited for the series after hearing the prophecy and of course the “question” perhaps a series about the Doctors love for River, his new found family and his god complex that causes the war against him. Sure Capaldi was a great doctor and series 9 was superb, I can’t help but think the series really ended its peak with that one final, very last very moving, “Doctor Who?”

Just got this in my recommended and honestly, I'm so drawn in with how you talk. Gained a sub and excited to see more (also agree with so much of what you said too which is a nice bonus, Ten and Donna are gonna be hard for anyone to top as my pairing)

When Doctor Who came back, my son got into it, and I walked by his room and said, "What are you watching?" The next thing I know, my son set up a chair in his room and showed me all the Doctor Who episodes he could pirate, starting from the 60's to the current Doctor Who (which at the time was David Tennant). We are both major fans, and Doctor Who allowed us to watch episodes, discuss them, and learn more about each other through those discussions. I think people love Doctor who, because so many of the Doctors are complex, quirky, and loveable. Everyone has their favorites.

I remember when I was really little my sister and I were the biggest doctor who fans (still are). We would just sit on our sofa and wait, we would watch reruns 100 times. It's been a show that has been here since I can remember, and it was fantastic!

It's always good to come onto youtube and watch someone talking about something they love, rather than whinging about stuff they don't like; especially when it comes to any current fandoms. It's sad that that's been a rarity for some time.

10th is def my Doctor, then 9th, and I kinda lost interest mid 11th, enjoyed the beginning, but then it just stopped doing it for me. The following Doctors never really felt as enjoyable. And Donna is an absolute queen! And oh my god, the Master was great with 10th, but Missy was just amazing, I didn't know anybody can top the previous Master, but she did it!

What a great video, 10 seconds in and I knew I was in for a treat.
Felt like you were reaching out and talking to my soul. A few differences aside you made me feel not so lonely tonight. My Doctor is Eccleston but I bloody love how you broke down 10's character. I remember Smith's era as really inconsistent but I do enjoy lots of standalone stories and moments that were epic. That is the Power of Matt's music. And when I think of Capaldi I think of Missy. Her entire story arc is such a treat to watch back to back. I tear up thinking about her final moments, without witness, without reward. It broke my heart. And Capaldi's era is when the show got really experimental, pushing the boundaries of it's storytelling in new ways. I have a fascination with the episode, Sleep no more.
Thanks for making me cry 3 times all over my pizza

I stumbled across this and I’m so glad I did. The best show I’ve ever grown attached to. I can binge it day, over and over. On my worst days I find myself going to my favorite episodes to be happy or the saddest to cry to. Clara is my life blood and I find myself looking into all the things Jenna Coleman will play in or has played in. I adore that actress so very much. 11 was my favorite, I return to his era the most (I love Amy but I do mostly watch 11 and 12 only for Clara.) and hated 12 at first but grew to love him as well.

I worked with Matt Smith at the 50th anniversary event. I'd watched Doctor Who as a kid when it started with Eccleston but working with there made me appreciate the show so much more. Watching the way people interacted with Matt and the other cast members, this show means so much to people of all ages. I will always have a special place in my heart for it.

I watched Doctor Who without any proper idea what it was. It was purely "accident" and instantly in love. Its like a guilty pleasure, bcs i had so much problem with it (espescially the newer seasons) but i cant help but being attracted to this show

The music in Doctor Who, especially from 9-12, is bloody marvelous too. Murray Gold did a banging job on all the themes and there are still some that give me chills even though I've basically grown up listening to them
I know that dumping on the new show running is a lil overdone, but damn I miss those pieces that made the viewer feel everything, from the power of staring down an army, to the sorrow of losing a friend, alongside those characters.

I really enjoyed this, it's so lovely to watch a video that doesn't gas the show but also doesn't take a dump on it. I was about 6/7 as well when it came back and for me, it's certainly been the most seminal moment of my life; it sparked my interest in acting and film making, pushing me to eventually go to drama school, where, before Jodie was cast, I was determined from the age of 8 I'd be the first female Doctor. Learning to write scripts and allowing my imagination to run wild. I mean Doctor Who Confidential! What an amazing resource for both fans and young creatives. I am still an avid watcher as I believe it's one of the few shows from childhood where you can still watch and enjoy and access the child you use to be, which is something we all need. Being able to laugh at the ridiculousness of it but also see the heart of the show which is about acceptance, curiosity, love, is a space that every human should find for themselves! I love Doctor Who. This video warmed my nerdy soul.

Doctor Who is a show that has gotten me through the shittiest of times and trauma. It still does and no matter what I will defend it (while calling out it’s flaws). Thank you Bertie for a video that perfectly reflected my views, and the views of many.

Unfortunately I had never even heard of Doctor Who until 2012. I live in America and I was browsing through Netflix and started watching it. Everyday I would start "Doctor Who comas" watching episode after episode. It changed my life and even now the reboots theme song is my ring tone 😂 I've sadly never watched the originals but I dont know if I ever could. I'm so used to what the reboot is.

what i always loved about doctor who and the doctor as a character, was how on the surface he was just someone to try and help people, however, the amount of anger he had within him.
Also with the Smith era, i always felt like the music and sound design had a massive step up which really helped the show i think
