I have linked all the info for vehicle, tools and manifold part number in the description, including the other vehicle models this part is also used in.
Thanks for watching.
Did this the other day, took the flap actuator off the end, pulled off the plastic ball piece that moves the rod, used needle-nose pliers to grip the rod, put vise- grips on the needle- nose to give them a firm grip and smacked the vise grips with hammer to pull the tube out.
The sludge was holding it well, so after moving it out about half way I drove it back in and pulled again to help loosen it up. Gumout helps.
Took the gaskets off, pulled the flaps and retainers out, removed flaps, put flap retainers back it, put gaskets back on, reinstalled manifold back on the car.
Thank you for this video. I'd looked for this topic on YT. Your video is the most helpful.
You are a godsend. I will be doing this same work in a few days and I am only looking at other guides with the same engine but slightly different set of layout (hoses and electrical). Yours however is the same as mine and it answered all my question on how to do it right. Thank you for the video.
No problem, best of luck 👍
Thanks ! This was a great help. It's always nice to know what your getting into before you get there .
Thanks John 🙏🙏
Thanks Gerard, I've just done this on my Volvo S40 (same engine) and it was helpful to have a video so I knew what to expect. If you have the right extensions etc the job is pretty straightforward, the middle bolt is the only really tricky one. I put some very heavy silicone oil on it to hold it in the sleeve when reinstalling.
I found it very difficult to find a video on this very matter I have a Volvo s40 1.8 2004 with only 86:000 on the clock but the problem I'm having is knowing how to get to the PCV because I think it's blocked or a failed valve.
I'm getting a bit of white smoke coming out the exhaust. Saying that I hope it's not my rings. 👍🏿
Excellent job GB and thanks for sharing. 😉
Thank you.
Thanks for the walk thru Gerard.
I agree, the best part of the repair is confirming the diagnosis.
Fairly common fault on these beasts.
Good call on replacing the entire manifold. You can get the flaps, but not the shaft. It is a weird size and so what most people do trying to do the job on the cheap is put the shaft in backwards (wear will be in different positions) and replace the flaps.
I agree with your replacement of the total manifold - less come-backs and a long term happy customer! 😉
Cheers for the info Max,
Best option in my opinion, the cost of they complete manifolds are so good (online) that it makes no sense to try the other way if the rod/shaft can be an issue, even for yourself.
@@GerardBurkeBurkesGarage Obsoletely! 👍
very good information. but For me I replace any oil rings especially fuel injection rail. do to a fact 50% to 50 % they will leak. been working on firetrucks, heavy Equipment and auto for over 35 years I never had a comebacks. Patience is the key. and mark any lines with you think you might forget. great video respect
Great video Gerard, Thankyou:):)
Cheers Pat, Stay safe mate!
@@GerardBurkeBurkesGarage Will try, thanks Gerard 🙏👍😷
Can I ask did this fix the idle fluctuations you spoke of in the beginning? Thanks
Great Job !! Thank You !!
👌👍
Hi.
Nicely done! Good job!
Does it apply also for Ford Focus II, 1.8L Flexifuel? What seal paste did you use?
Thank you.
Appreciate the how to video. Is there anyway to delete the flaps rather than fit a whole new intake manifold?
If it helps anyone I have small magnets I've collected over time that I stick to the outside of the socket. They have enough power to hold the bolt on till you get it started in thread. Thanks for the video
Thanks for sharing mate.
Are them flaps needed..or can they just be removed. What purpous do they serve for the inlet?
Hi, Do the seals that are attached to the injectors need to be replaced ? Cheers
Great video, i want to replace mine in a few days because i saw huge play in the flaps when i had my pcv hose replaced, but my car has also lpg and I'm a bit worried on how can I mount the hoses from lpg in the manifold or if it comes with the holes already drilled for the lpg version of this car.
I have a p0171 code, do you reckon it could be caused by the swirl flaps? I checked for cracked hoses and i couldn't find any. If i delete the error, it takes about a week till it comes back on... when i had my pcv hose removed, i had another problem with an lpg injector so the car was running ro rough from time to time. Now i fixed that problem but i still get a p0171 from time to time and i thought it might be because of the swirl flaps.
Thanks for the great video. Could you just confirm what the name/purpose of the pipe is mentioned at 5:45?
I wish i could of seen how you got your extension bit in on the lower part of the manifold. Plus I can't seem to get my fuel rail out it really is stuck in there have you any other tips how to remove it. I've tried wd40 👍🏿great video otherwise 👍🏿edited so I have just discovered how to get the extension in feed it in from the bottom where there is a gap inbetween the radiator and the frame of the car feed the extension from the left hand side and slightly pointing it upwards a quarter inch extension is best to used I hope this smaĺl bit of info helps 👍🏿
My idle only fluctuates when braking coming to a stop. Then it smooths out. Good/normal idle otherwise. Sometimes though when I start the engine its hard to start. Like if it's running on 2-3 cylinders with car shaking and 700rpm instead of 950rpm as normal. Need to press gas pedal to get engine to normal state.
This might not be my issue? Maybe something else in the vacuum/pcv system? Something that are intermittent sticking or restricted sometimes.
MAP-sensor seems to report correct intake temperature and pressure according to barometric pressure outside and temperature.
No fault codes.
Can you show how to unclip the airbox pipe? Thank you.
Hello Gerald, which aftermarket intake manifold is this? I am guessing the replacement you used was not oem. I need to change mine so wanted your opinion on a good replacement. Thanks
hi do you know were the throttle body is located on a 2003 1.4 tdci thanks
Could i buy an ebay stock intake from eBay for the 2.3 duratec would it be good
i have a fusion 1.6 16v 2005, petrol, i dont have this flaps correcrt? it suddenlystarted doing this weird tiking strong noise. thanks
what will happen if we remove the air inlet of this intake manifold?
Why you not first running the engine so we can listen to the sounds.
Hello, does your engine consume oil ?
I want to replace this on my focus myself, but golly does it seem like a huge pain to remove the old piece. I feel like I’ll forget how to attach every component.
Very good but the focus is somewhat different to the Mondeo ,Focus is more difficult to remove etc. Thanks Be Blessed.
Thank you for uploading this. I always wondered how the duratec manifold came off, my one has a p1549 code and I was wondering if the vacuum actuator connection is inside of the manifold.
Side note, I hope this never happens to me as I heard the flaps can kill the engine by the metal rods falling though messing up the valves and piston.
Cheers Tim,
I think that might be earlier models than this one but either way, if there is a rattle and issues best to get it sorted asap.
Thanks for watching
What is the other solenoid for?
sẽ thế nào nếu tháo bỏ luôn cả cửa gió của cổ hút này?
thank you, Was there any fault codes regarding to this problem?
Thank you, and no there were no fault codes stored on this one. 👍👌
He - he what a holy shit is that ford 1.8/2.0 engines ....
Flap delete ftw
you didnt even crank the engine so people can hear it
