      @@EdwinRucci agreed with the op, it's not a stupid question. They didn't specifically said that it's possible to do. On the contrary, this question is spot on because now we know that the mic can potentially be recognized in any app and not just Røde apps, camera apps, Apple and Android voice recorders, note taking apps, voice calling... There are Android and Apple restrictions so sometimes accessories connected to the port are only recognized through the manufacturer of the plugged in device via a proprietary driver. Not a stupid question.

      Hey there, here are a few tips for using the VideoMic GO II with iPhones:
      - iOS does not have an indicator that a mic is being used. The only way to know for certain is to make a recording, tap/scratch the mic's surface and see whether that shows up in the recording.
      - Since iOS leaves it up to individual developers to code in support for wired microphones, some apps do not support them. However the default camera app does, so that will help you troubleshoot whether the device is connected and functional.
      - Our customers often find that their phone case is blocking the cable from connecting fully to their phone, so it can help to remove your case from your phone for troubleshooting purposes.
      If you've tried all these tips and your VideoMic GO II still isn't working, our friendly service team is ready to assist. Contact them here: rode.com/en/support/contact and make sure to provide all the necessary details so they can get to the bottom of it.

    Please do a tutorial video for us Android users. I purchased this mic but I'm not sure how well it is working on my Moto G Stylus(2021 version, Android 10) when using a USB C to USB C cable. It is not clear if it is using the Rode or the built-in phone mic. Do I have to use the Rode Reporter app or will this mic do recording via the Camera app?
    Edit: Looks like it still uses built-in mic instead of the Rode when recording video via the Camera app. It is either an audio recording app such as Rode Recorder or nothing. That is disappointing. 😒 I was hoping to record video with better audio and when you use the Rode Recorder app then switch to video recording on the phone, the Rode Recorder stops recording. Using this mic on a smartphone, you can record your video or record audio, not both at the same time.
    Edit2: Whew, tried the Camera MX app(instead of Moto Camera app) and it senses if you have an external mic. It works. 😁

    It seems that the PAD, high frequentie filter etc etc, are only accessible when in USB mode. Meaning that these settings will not be adjusted in the mic it self but rather only a software setting. Am I understanding this correctly? It would be awesome to have a small mic (compared to the NTG) but with the option to use these setting (unlike the VideoMicro).
    I am afraid if I want to use it with a camera and not a computer or iPhone, I will not get these great features, but rather have to buy (the much bigger and less compact) NTG which does have these features on the mic itself and not in software.

    • @rodemic
      @rodemic  2 года назад +1

      Hey Anuj, we would suggest using the TRS connection. The USB-C is mainly used for computers, however if your camera can connect a mic input via USB-C there's no harm in giving it a try!

  • @clifftotten7609
    @clifftotten7609 2 года назад

    If you make changes to the mic gain in the software, will those changes save inside the mic when you disconnect it and mount it to your camera? In other words, does it have an internal settings memory?

    • @rodemic
      @rodemic  2 года назад +1

      Hey Cliff, any digital signal processing activated via RØDE Central, such as the mic gain, will only be retained when the mic is plugged into a camera with a USB audio input. When it's connected to a 3.5mm input jack, it is directly powered via plug-in power supplied by your camera just like the original VideoMic GO, which does not support the digital signal processing. When the mic is hosted via USB, the digital signal path is powered up, unlocking access to the DSP.

I have a samsung note 4...and I have micro usb port on the note 4 for charging, and a headphone jack...would I need a wire that goes from the usb of the rode mic to the micro usb port of the phone to power it up?...or would I need a wire that goes from the usb of the rode mic to the 3.5mm to get the best power for best recording on the go?..thanks and a have a great day

    • @rodemic
      @rodemic  Год назад

      Hey there, if the TRS to TRRS cable isn't working, here are a few things to try:
      - Double check that your cable is fully inserted and that the grey end is being used in your smartphone and the black end is in your VideoMic GO II.
      - Double check that the app you're using on your phone can be used with a wired mic, as many cannot. A good way to know if the app you'd like to use will support a wired mic would be to find a pair of wired headphones, test them to make sure that the app and TRRS port on your phone are both working, then use your VideoMic GO II.
